I got a whole tailored wardrobe from Hoi An in the early 90s. The clothes were beautifully fitted, cut and finished. I paid about US$250 to $300 for 7 pieces
The green dress came out so cute! You could tell when you tried it on the first time you didn’t like it..but the second time it looked so good! And definitely flattered you!
@@homiekeen23 it lifts things up a bit and maybe pushes it in but why would that be the reason she was happy when she changed the straps holding the dress up?? also i really could only tell by rewatching a second time to see if she had worn one because of this comment, her chest is not the focal point here, so i don't think it changes much.
I knew a girl who lived in Vietnam and all her clothes came from tailors I thought that was amazing. To have clothes that are literally made for you. It would be hard to just buy clothes in a retail store again.
🙄 ^Well Kate, she can’t go back to 1940, she can only go to present day Vietnam…istg people can’t let any culture have anything without inserting white culture into every conversation where it doesn’t belong. 🥱
Growing up all my clothes, including school uniforms, were made for me. Same with my parents clothes. We had a couple first class seamstresses and a taylor. To this day I treat myself when I visit. 🙋🏼♀️🇵🇦
That was my parent's generation in Vietnam and that's how they grew up. There were no shopping malls or Made in China fast fashion back then. Everything was hand made and tailored and my mom still has that mindset and refuses to shop in malls.
@@madamebelle-I was local and paid around $100 for an outfit (top and bottom), material not included , in HCMC when I was still in VN 8 years ago. I think $72 is a good price in 2024.
my wording may be a bit inappropriate lol but typically if you have knockers square neck tops aren’t gonna be flattering. So glad you went with the halter top instead
She looked fine in the square after it got tailored a bit more in the clip just before it switched to halter footage. It looked supported. But didn't showcase the girls as well as the halter did. The brown strapless was the real risk I think. It came down to personal preference. Eitherway she looks lovely in all of them.
I found a tailor the first time I went to work in Vietnam who made me four beautiful dresses for a pittance.Five years later,I travel there every couple of months and still use the same tailor. He has my measurements and even knows my taste.I take an empty case and my friends/family measurements-they've given me an idea of what they want.He makes everything and then I collect everything the next visit so I always have a full case.My wardrobe is now massive-a sundress like those shown costs around £12,a linen skirt suit around £20,my husband's suits around £25.My sister even drew her dream wedding dress and had it made-it cost her £50 and fitted perfectly...Everything is made to measure, suits and heavy dresses are fully lined,shirts/blouses around £8.When I visted the first time after Ii'd had my baby,my lovely tailor had made her a beautiful layette of around 40 items-dresses,dungarees,rompers-everything you can think of in the first two sizes.(he knew the baby's weight/length as we'd been emailing about my sister's wedding dress,he asked if the baby baby'had been born and asked general questions anyone would. He presented the layette to me as his gift and wouldn't take a penny-said he'd loved doing it as he never gets to make baby clothes. Now she's getting bigger,my daughter's wardrobe is rivalling mine! Anh's an amazing tailor but more importantly,a great friend.
You can do exactly this in every country in Africa. The Kenyan tailors are a hit or miss though, but if you're ever around here getting a leso skirt (I'd advice a maxi skirt with the idioms on display) and he can get a kanzu top in white linen (or leso too).
@@availanila Yes they do ! You also mentioned kanzus : Comorian men wear them too. It's so cool to see how we have things in common 😊 My mom even had a conversation with a Kenyan guy on a plane : they could understand each other since Comorian is basically just a dialect of the Swahili language.
For all of that work-I would have paid her extra. With such a short turn around as well. I’m sure it would mean a lot to her also. That’s is just how me and my husband are, I would personally feel guilty not tipping a bit more when I’m saving so much for custom clothing already.
That's a personal preference, not a must or something to feel guilty about 😊 . Tipping is not common everywhere, of course feel free to do it but it's really not necessary or anything to feel guilty about 👍 . In some places/for some people it can even be considered offensive, as people are just doing their job and see the tip as a charity or handout 😅
Hoi An is a lovely city with lovely people. I met a lot of local friends there and had some slammer nights out as well as ate good food. The centre is so pretty by the river and there are so many tailors you just have to search around for the best price. A bit more expensive than the rest of Vietnam but still great prices with great business owners
Vietnam is so UNDERRATED in every single way!! The food! The indigenous fruits are from another planet! But the most important thing is THEIR PEOPLE ARE AMAZINGLY FRIENDLY!!! I’ve only visited 9 times, 8 to 14 days per visit and I adore it!!!
Wow! I was there something like 32 years ago and all there was there at the time were a handful of ladies on a street, a few bolts of cloth and some dusty old sewing machines. Looks so fancy now. Had a shirt made. Awesome.
You can get this done in America too! You just have to be willing to pay for people taking the time to make the clothing. People deserve a living wage! It’s crazy people buy designer clothing for thousands, won’t invest in original designs tailored to their own body a unique wardrobe.
@@main2333 yeah that’s true but it would be awesome for the clothes to actually fit me correctly, and it’s such a unique experience! It would be fun to gift this to people!
I remember growing up in Vietnam to have most of my clothes tailored made because we didn’t have a lot of choice to chose from at the shops like nowadays.
i did this with my family when i was a little kid, we’ve been talking about going back for ages. this was really cool to see, brought back some memories ❤
I literally gasped when I saw the green dress on you, the color and the shape fit you perfectly!! What a thing to say, that you got a piece of clothing designed and made specifically for you!! I never thought I'd wanted to travel to SEA but now, I want to go to Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia, even though I hate hot and humid environments, I'm sure I'll find lots of great things and experiences there!!
I got a custom dress (at another business) in Hoi An. I was really disappointed with it & it was more expensive than I've paid for well fitting dresses at home. It's nice you're highlighting a place that allows you to adjust 'the vision'.
She did SUCH an amazing job!! That green looks SO good on you!!! I honestly liked the first version of the green dress but you are 100% right -that halter was chef kiss 🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌
It would really depend on the specifics, I can vary drastically like 1 hour for a basic mini dress to 3 weeks for a very detailed formal gown. Or 6 months for haute couture! lol
Duuuude....this needs to be a full length movie! Lol On another note! It was lovley of Charles Dickens to do this and make it affordable for the lower class! Im sure they loved it! ❤❤
I've always, mostly, thought that guys shouldn't wear same colours top and bottom for casual clothes. But that linen suit looked smart and casual at the same time!!!! Very cool!
if you don't have a convenient access to developing countries for cheap tailors, an alternative is getting something from the rack and then get it adjusted at a tailor.
Those are absolutely amazing prices. V-neck looks really good on me, too. Scoop necks are awful. There are certain body types that just cannot successfully do certain shapes. The v-neck looks fantastic on you. And that is such a lovely natural earth tone color. Very nice.
People have to realize, most small companies that are run by old ladies and gents are just parents trying to survive. They are and will do their best for their customers. It might be a bit pricey, but their quality is way better and u can always design how you want if ure just a nice person.
The price is a little bit more expensive than tailored dress in Indonesia, but the speed is awesome! Here, we can only get custom clothes in after a week. Some even take months to get 😅
As someone who sews their own clothes occasionally this is really impressive work in a very short time. The prices are insanely cheap for western standards. I hope you tipped her well.
Halter top dress is a great style for you. I’m pretty sure you’re a Summer (cool colors) but you are choosing spring and autumn warm colors. If your worst color is mustard I’m sure you’re a Summer. Blues, violets; greys for neutrals. Cool colors with a blue base.
