No one is forced to work there........ I met a cast member who was 79 years old and had worked there almost 30 years. She loved it and couldn't imagine working anywhere else. Her husband worked there as well.
Keep in mind...they are all young kids...but yes, it is sad. Calling for their "civil rights" no less!!! Makes you wonder just who is educating our children these days? Why this victim attitude? It is so prevalent..Is it a lack of "real world" experience, or the way they are being raised?
You can also get termed for being nosy and curious, similar to how you said the guy rode the coaster during his shift, (going into backstage areas without permission). Not following the Disney look (Costume is not maintained well, tattoos and piercings, hair styles not accepted). Walking on stage in costume in an area you don't work in or is close to, to get to your work station. You should always use backstage routes. (if you have a tomorrowland costume, but you're in main street). Giving guests incorrect or stupefied information (saying that there are two mickey mouses in the park, saying food is half off after 8 etc.,). Poor work performance, (not giving guests correct change, unsafe ride operating procedures, untidy work areas, being tardy and absent or coming back from breaks late). Trust issues, similar to the popcorn thing, (selling free admission tickets, letting friends/family into the park for free, going into the park after your shift in your street clothes, with your costume still in your locker backstage, taking property and supplies, giving away fastpasses). Poor conduct with coworkers, (having a relationship with a lead or manager, sexually harassing your coworkers or roommates, verbally or physically, having sex in the apartments.) Ruining the Disney magic. (Posting backstage areas on social media, wearing your costume and nametag outside of Disney. Revealing photos and/or videos of secret or upcoming attractions or rides on the internet). Finally, you can get termed for not smiling and using the two finger or open palm point. I'm dead serious. lol.
+Charlie Chang wow. That is crazy! I did once try and get on one of the guest buses once in my uniform and they were having none of it. Got to keep the magic alive I guess.
I don't think there was anything wrong with people changing clothes after their shifts and going out into the parks. I had a roommate (I did the DCP) who worked at Magic Kingdom and did this all the time, as well as a roommate who worked at Animal Kingdom who did the same thing. Why would that be a problem? And I think it's going a bit far to say you can get termed for not using the two finger point. You may be reminded or scolded, but getting termed just for that reason is not something I've ever heard of.
What part of the above post is illegal? The only thing thing listed above that sounds odd, not illegal, is the going to the park after your shift. That needs a bit more clarification.
The point is every CP signs an agreement that basically states Disney can fire you for any reason or no reason at all. They don't need a reason and every CP signs agreement that allows them to do so. It should not be a surprise really unless you don't read your agreements.
Just wanted to shoot you a message and say we love this series! We've been watching you for ages and think your channel is great! Keep up the good work and can't wait to hear more!
I find your Cast Member series very interesting. I have a best friend that works at Disney full time and have heard a plethora of stories like these, such as people being termed for various reasons, the quality of guests and other CM's, good and bad. I think hearing your stories from a "foreigner" perspective is quite interesting, especially about the qualms of being termed with a work visa. I have been told by my friend to apply for the DCP and while I have some reservations about it, I really feel that it would be fun. I can't wait to see more in depths about your experiences. Cheers.!
Definitely have a look through some of the other videos, and if you have any questions or want to know a bit more just let us know and we'll try and answer them!!
+Krispy Smore yes. I'm so up for this. We could do a program Q&A or comparison or something. Just let me get the hang of driving without risking everyone on the roads life and we should schedule down a trip to Eastbourne! I realise you could of been joking but I'm taking it as an invite. Haha.
I had a friend who worked at a restaurant at Disney World. Some guests took a photo and he was at the bar in the background. Knowing he was facing directly into their shot he smiled, thinking it'd be nicer than his blank face in the background. Well the guests raised hell saying he "photobombed" their photos and, sadly, he was terminated. He didn't mind much, actually. It seemed like a damned if you do damned if you don't situation. For all he knew they would have raised hell about catching a cast member not being friendly if he didn't smile.
That's a terrible reason to get fired! if a cast member photobombed/ended up in my photo i'd love it.... but then again i'm a HUGE disney fan and i love cast members 😂
I have read about that slack seatbelt on Tower before with CMs like basically dangling on the ceiling. I thought it was an exaggeration lol wow crazy... I think all of the reasons for termination are reasonable. I think it's easy to feel "at home" at work, so it's important to remember to be professional at all times. Great video, really interesting stories and talking points. Thanks for sharing!
I was termed from my cp because I got hurt during my shift one day. I followed all the protocols for when you get hurt, I told my leaders and did everything I needed to before I went to health services. I had no reprimands, no points, no housing violations, quite a few cast compliments, and serval four key cards. I cared about my guests and was very nice towards my fellow cm’s. It’s an incredibly messed up situation, but now I’m kind of happy I got termed. My injury is finally being taken care of.
As a person applying for Disney, this is really helpful to know (even if they're obvious reasons, good to brush up on my knowledge) so I thank you for putting this up. ouo
I feel like I'm so super late to seeing this but I love you so far! I think you're super funny and I really appreciate you telling all these stories. I'm in the process of applying to work for disney and I'm trying to get tips and pointers and stuff!
I was an ICP for 12 months in 2010, and quite a few ICPs in my intake got termed, including one of my housemates. I don't know why you would risk it, it was one of the best experiences of my life - cutting it short due to my own stupidity would have been a massive regret for the rest of my life. It's a once in a lifetime experience!!
Lmao, I got to the part where you were talking about getting termed for simply eating a popcorn and it reminded me of something I witnessed. I'm an annual passholder so I visit the parks often and sometimes I like to just chill in the pavilions at Epcot. I was sitting under the covered area with food in Mexico and I saw that a working cast member had taken a margarita to the trash bin, set it down where the tray's would go and left it for about 10 minutes. I thought it was odd that it was literally sitting there intact, rather than thrown away. Assuming he thought that no one would be looking (except I was, I was staring at that margarita with heart eyes because I thought someone abandoned it and I wanted to give it a new home) - he took an empty, large soda cup, and "stealthily" slipped the frozen margarita into it, placed the lid on and kept working. THAT TO ME WAS SO WILD. I WAS SHOOK. ?!?!??! IDK MANG
Thanks for the video! If I was still in college, I would definitely consider the program! I very much enjoyed watching this though, you definitely kept it entertaining. Also, I LOVE your lipstick!!!
Getting fired for eating popcorn or ice cream isn't just at Disney, here in the states most fast food places and restaurants here have the same set of rules. I had a friend who put a french fry in her mouth at work that she had not paid for and was fired instantly! If you ask a manager, some of them may let you take something that's leftover home with you at the end of the day after closing time, but most won't. The only time you are allowed to eat at work is at lunch break, and even then, only if you pay for what you eat. Some places do give employee discounts, but nothing is free. Unfortunately they would rather throw food out than to give the food to their employees to eat or to take home to their families.
It's not all about the money...it's because the food etc. are no longer fit for service for a guest means that it's potentially not fit for you health and safety wise. Of course health and safety has gone mad now(!) Money wise, they may well weigh every ounce of 'wastage' to balance their stocks and ensure that they know where they are loosing money to perform better in the future etc.
Just to add more info, I worked quick service food and beverage at Disneyland CA and one of the reasons they don't want you eating food that will be spoiled is that they think it encourages CMs to spoil more food for a chance of getting free food at the end of the day. At least this was the case in my area where CMs were caught spoiling a lot of food consistently.
I'd say its not as crazy as it sounds because I very briefly worked at a place where damaged stock - packaging or one can in a pack of six was sold dirt cheap to employees but damages rocketed so they had to end the practice and sure enough, a lot less stock got damaged. Same with cooked fast food; people will just cook more than needed knowing they can take it home.
WDW College Program Spring '97. One of my roommates was terminated for having a friend from out of town (another female) crash overnight. She signed in, never signed out, so Vista Way security came knock on on our door at 3am. It was spring break and I'd worked the very late shift so I had no idea. Long story short, they flushed the guest out of the room after some questioning, reported to all of our sites that we'd be spending the morning being questioned further, and my roommate was gone that night.
Enjoyed watching your video, I can safely say that working for Disney isn't for me after watching this but I'll find another way to go live in the sunshine state!
I'm from NZ and worked in a summer camp and one of the American Counselors had a camper spot some cans of beer in her cabin box as the counselor was pulling clothes or something out. This was passed onto Senior Camp staff then management she was pulled up to their office, her cabin and all her belongings searched. She was instantly terminated and had to spend the night at the Camp Managers house and was driven off and escorted off the property the next morning.
in regards to english drinking age, the actually drinking age in england is like 10 you can drink with a meal in public at 16. the reason english laws are more relaxed is because there is a lot of grey areas/ different boundaries when it comes to drinking laws.
I'm probably going to apply for my second or third year of college, and the alcohol thing is a non-issue, don't really want alcohol, I'll stick with soda.
Memories! I was there for Summer ICP 2011. Note on the underage thing. Buffalo Wild Wings (where CP buses bring you to) is a bars which allows minors but you get tagged with a big black X on the back of your hands. House of Blues has a different coloured wristbands for minors as well. It's just 6 months. Stay sober! Although I would have loved drinking around the world in Epcot. 😂
I was 18 - just got to drink in the UK when I went. The age on the ID wasn't something we had. My FL resident card did though. My roommates were 20,21,25,28 and 40. They've obviously clamped down as I was at loads of parties, and as long as people under 21 weren't drinking, security didn't do much. But I was at Vista Way. We did hula parties - vodka jelly galore! Fancy dress parties, pool parties.... And we were always in Bennegins! A couple of people I know got terminated for drinking. I worked in f&b and every once in a while our managers would let us have a few bits of the leftover food at the end of the night. The rest of the time it was totally off limits. I heard the story about the guys on ToT!
I have heard since that quite a few people have done it over the years! Apparently, it is something you get told about as a warning when you work there of things that people can do and I guess some of the cast just want to test it out! I know the guys I saw were not the first and I doubt they will be the last!!
I did the International program which is slightly different - that is for the Epcot pavilions and anyone can apply. Contracts also tend to be longer - 9 or 12 months. She was so lovely and had more energy than the rest of us! She was from Japan, and you would never know - she looked about 25!
I 100% agree with your opinion on personal responsibility. When I worked at the WDW on the DCP., I observed people being termed some of the most ridiculous reasons. I even saw a local teenager (new hire) point out in less than 2 weeks.
I can understand why here in the US we have the drinking ages where they are, at 20 you are not considered a minor. Anyone who is under 18 is considered to be a minor once you're 18 your considered an adult. There are quite a few college age students who rent homes in my neighborhood and we go through hell when they live here during the school year. Purely because of their behavior and lack of respect for others who have kids and want to sleep at 3 am.
I work for Disney Stores, and a big one for us is that you can't sell any of your Disney merchandise. I know several Cast Members who have been fired for selling random items. While it seems like common sense, a lot of people seem to do it.
Hi! Love your channel so much. I'm 19 yrs old and I will work for Disney f&b field. I want to know so many things to preserve my job ahahah I have a question. Would it be a problem if I go to parties with People 21+ with alcohol and stuff like this even if I don't drink but just chill with them? I mean, there will be so many alcoholic moments but I will not drink and maybe managers can be suspicious??? What are your opinion?
For me personally, I wouldn't risk it. If you are around alcohol and they suspect you of drinking (even if you didn't) you can get in a lot of trouble. I mean there is also a chance that nothing would happen and you would be fine. It is always worth asking about it when you get there so you know exactly what the rules are and where you stand.
Hi there! I am planning to work at Disney World next summer (2018). Do you know more about the kind of student exchange thing? Cause I am from Canada and I am really determinate to work there since few years! Thanks, loved the video 💗
I'm not overly sure what the options are coming from Canada. I believe it used to be similar to what we were offered. I know that Yummy Jobs (the company I went through) also deal with Canadian applicants. Here is their website: www.yummyjobs.com/ and I know that they have a live chat if you have any questions. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful!
I remember my Disney Store interview; I was rejected after asking, "Do you promote by seniority... or competence?" About alcohol... drinking age used to be 18 in Florida; and the year I turned 18 Florida changed it to 21.
Back in the '80's when I was in college, one of my friend's friends came into our room and said he got fired from Disney World. He was on drugs and wrecked the monorail. That's pretty hard to do as it only goes one way LOL!
my best friend from work got caught selling tickets yesterday he is still on probation (3months in), and is worried about losing the job. is this automatic termination or would this be a warning? or pass taken away? He has a good record so far of never showing up late or calling off. He told me he wrote a statement and they would give him a call of when to come in and to bring his uniforms just in case which sucks tbh.
Wow that`s insane. I work at Busch Gardens and we arent at all as strict. Maybe because I was a camp counselor, but we all had the same rules as the rest so? Maybe because we arent as into keeping to magic as Disney is. We`re just a zoo with rides basically. We`re allowed to post BTS things a lot and the only thing we really restrict from public is some of the back areas due to people not understanding that tigers have a metal cage at night to ya know, not kill us. Also question, is it mandatory for you to wave at the trams and trains?
Much like yourself and your friends, I too was a custodial cast member late 1999 to New Years Day 2000. Oh, my gosh it was the time of my life. I worked in Camp Minnie Mickey, but I was not limited to there. I was told many times to not leave my area but that did not stop me from going to areas such as Africa and others. I stopped to give directions and help take pictures of families and just help to give people their time of their lives. In fact I was awarded 4 Tinker bell Golden Tickets. I was aware that there was cast members who worked as Disney for 5 years and have never been awarded even one. I was there during my college tenure for the Live Learn and Earn program. I received my Ducktorette. I think I spelled that correctly. Anyway, it was the time of my life and I would go back at the drop of a dime. Thank you for telling your story. James
Camp Minnie Mickey was always the best shifts. Just a really calm quiet area. There were lots of ducklings when I was there too! You just had to make sure that you got out of the way when Festival of The Lion King dumps outs!
Kudos to the Disney Corporation for making and enforcing rules!! Cast members are told what the rules and expectations of their job are at the time they are hired. If they do not agree with them and plan not to adhere to them, then resign and go back to where you came from in the first place. Rules are made to be kept, not broken, period!
I definitely see why people think they can be a bit strict - but for some people a Disney trip is a once in a lifetime experience. To really keep that standard up, you have to be hot on policing staff behaviour and making sure everyone is sticking to the rules and guidelines.
You can report other cast members to managers if they are doing something wrong but the managers have to actually witness it for them to get terminated because of something another cast member said.
I just got termed but only because im part-time. i just started a month ago...it was for being late because of car trouble (which they dont care about) and then i got really really sick so i called off twice and i got termed like literally yesterday. but I WANT MY JOB BACK!!! lol except working in tomorrowland attractions is brutal
I would love to work in Disney would be amazing I agree with the terms of termination they sound extreme but to be fair there probably about the same in any other theme park to be fair my mum worked at Thorpe park and you where not allowed money or phones on park and alsorts of other stuff if your going to break the law then more for you lol good video and new sub x
9:25 getting fired for eating the food seems petty, but I think Disney looks at it as more of a major flaw in the person's character and tendency to make really bad decisions than the fact it was just an ice cream cone or popcorn. If you are willing to eat food that you didn't pay for, what else are you doing as well.
Also, here's a ridiculous story my friend who runs a subway told me of a horrid employee, she would constantly be on her phone and ignoring the customers, and while making sandwiches, she would take small pieces of turkey off it and eat them...in full view of both her boss and the guy she was making the sandwich for...and she was shocked and furious when she got fired.......
I applied for the disney college program yesterday, so I'm curious about the alcohol rule. Being under 21, will I be terminated just for being in the same building as the alcohol, or is it only if you're actually drinking? Like if one of my housemates had alcohol in another room will it still effect me?
If you are under 21, it is unlikely that you will be put with others that are over 21. So if you are underage, all of your housemates would be too. So in that instance, if it was found in your apartment, you would be liable.
that's an interesting question! I know you can get new IDs, so I assume you just request a new one saying that you are over 21. The drinking rules still apply as you will be living with minors, but you can move rooms if you want to be able to drink.
Most of the employment rules for Disney apply to pretty much every job going in general though. It's such a desirable job and odds on it's short term employment anyway so why risk such a wonderful opportunity on something as dumb as underage drinking. People that break the rules then complain about it are spoilt brats with their first world problems.
That Sounds Fun I was supposed to do Attractions, until I got ousted on my 4th day of training b/c of my hearing disability -- even though I was doing pretty good @ the technical aspects. Isn't that just stupid-ass or what??
That Sounds Fun When you were on your days off, what were some of your favorite things to do?? Three of mine were walking through World Showcase & Downtown Disney, & visiting the water parks.
@@ThatSoundsFun And I was also working hard in becoming 1 of the new "Imagineers", b/c I have a whole truckload of new ideas for attractions -- new rides, new pavilions, etc.
Thanks for this video. I am currently thinking about doing the CRP and I was having anxiety about being termed. But I guess unless you don't behave like a total prick and use your brain, there won't be any problems.
You guys were all from outside the US...were they required to pay you minimum wage or were there some special arrangements because you were international students?
+edvaira6891 we got minimum wage but because we were not American citizens, we didn't have to pay for some of the taxes, so got a little bit extra money that way.
I knew how much the cast members got paid back where I was an annual passholder at Walt Disney World but the last two times I had just gotten frustrated so I didn't go back to guest services anything like that I just simply Silently walked out Walt Disney World the day knowing I was going to go up my annual pass that's what I figured it out I had had enough
Working for Disney sucks in any capacity. I'm a former cast member from Utilities. The pay is embarrassing and your odds of transfer to a higher paying department are almost nill.
I hear ya I got fired from Disneyland ( and still till this day really have no clue why ) that place was a good job to have but ( you gotta wonder ( they really didnt care about you as a CAST MEMBER
they plugged in the seatbelt properly just made it a lot looser than it needed to be so that they wouldn't be strapped down. They hid how loose it was from the cast member doing the checks.
It's strange this law in the USA of not drink before 21, u can drive and is already considered of age but can not drink? I think is much easier a person to have access to alchoolic drinks when it already has all these freedoms
Yes at 18 you are no longer a minor and can vote, sign contracts and get married without your parents consent in the US. The issue with alcohol is a bit more complicated. Some time after the voting age was lowered to 18 in 1971 some states also lowered the age of consuming alcohol to 18 some with limits like only beer and wine or only low alcohol "3 2" beer (3.2%). With the lowering of this age there was a rise in Drunk driving fatalities. Most of the US has a car culture and everyone drives and at the time Drunk Driving was little more than a traffic ticket. By the mid 80's some states stated to raise the age probably due to the pressure of groups like Mother Against Drunk Driving MADD. States that kept their age at 21 would see the number of alcohol related accidents rise on the weekends from under 21 drivers returning from states that had a lower drinking age. It got to the point that some of those states raised the age to 21 for non residents. In 1986 the Federal government passed a law that pretty much forced states to raise the age to 21.
Disney has a huge reputation and can not risk an underage drinker doing something stupid and dangerous , not only to protect themselves but also the minor involved. In today's world one under age drinker gets hurt and stories would be every where about how Disney let minors drink even though it isn't really the case.
+RandomlyBeautiful13 Yes. There are loads of people you can talk to 24 hours on site. I think you more get in trouble if you know it is around and don't say anything.
+RandomlyBeautiful13 Yes. There are loads of people you can talk to 24 hours on site. I think you more get in trouble if you know it is around and don't say anything.
So, I want to make sure I'm following the first situation with the drinking. They try to room you up with people within your age, but sometimes there would be a mix of under and over 21 and if the over 21 year old(s) threw a party IN YOUR APARTMENT WHERE YOU LIVE and you're not 21 YOU then get into trouble and are terminated even though you're not the one throwing the party, you just happen to live there? What are you supposed to do if they throw a party? You can't go to your apartment because you're already there.
Even if you are over 21, if you are living with under 21s, you stay somewhere called a wellness apartment. No alcohol is permitted at all in these apartments regardless of age. I am not sure of all the finer details of it personally but if you do move in with under 21s. You are expected to not drink as well.
Sammy T I know of CPs over 21 who choose to stay in wellness apartments to avoid drinking and the whole party scene because they were not into it or they just chose not to. Strictly no drinking in wellness apartments else you risk getting termed. The over 21s know what to do. They usually take the party elsewhere (namely Vista Way in my time back in 2011).
I've always wanted to be a Disney Cast Member, face character to be exact, but I was either too tall or my face wasn't "pretty enough". Now I've gotten tattoos and I'm assuming you have to have natural hair to be a cast member? HAH! That won't happen, I'm addicted to dying my hair! I respect Disney for wanting to keep their parks innocent and as magical as possible though!!!
Yeah, they are really hot on the hair thing and tattoos. Although one guy I worked with had tattoos but he had to wear a long sleeve top. He must have been baking!
I have a question to ask you as a pass holder. I was told that if you are super nice to your cast members that maybe I might get lucky to be able to gain one entrance to club 33. please private message me not commenting back to this comment thanks. I tried asking one for a special occasion one time for disneyland and no luck.
Oh I see so walt disney world doesn't have a hard to get into club maybe not club 33 that we have here at disneyland but maybe its another kind of club that is hard to get into without a membership
+Art&Teacher nope. There is no place in Walt Disney World to be a member of. They sometimes hold annual pass holder or DVC events but these are usually just parties in the parks. You are able to go as a guest with an annual pass holder or DVC member. These are really the only exclusive membership events that WDW has.
