It's sad but it's true, I am no longer a Walt Disney World Cast Member. I truly loved my experience working for the company, but circumstances out of my control led me to make a very difficult decision. I do think it was for the best, though, as now I have the opportunity to devote myself wholeheartedly to content creation.
I hope you all look forward to what will come next. I know I'm very excited for it! 💖

I wish you would have had more time as a cast member at Walt Disney World. You should have tried for Ambassador, you'd make a great one, you've got the energy and enthusiasm. You'd also make a great guest services guide. You'd look cute in that blue velvet hat, even with it's rain cover on. I could easily see you retiring out of there. Then writing a book about your adventures there. Good luck through the coming hurricane 🌀. Don't forget to get batteries, and stuff for the grill. And a dozen cans of tuna. Just another day in paradise. 🌀🌀🌀 👵☮️🖖

In the 80’s Disney was the Best place to be. Every guest felt like they were important. When we went back with the grandkids in 2019, it had totally changed. It was dirty, the cast members, when asked, didn’t know how to give directions to the different attractions. Disney has forgotten who pays the bills in the parks

I took my kids to Disney World theme parks in '82 & '89 and we had a great time. I was a young, widowed Mom without much in my wallet. We stayed with friends that lived in Orlando and so didn't have to pay for accommodations. We visited several times and had a frugal budget - but it stretched enough to have a lot of fun. we got a few souvenirs, nothing too expensive, and didn't eat everything in sight, but it wasn't even noticeable & probably healthier anyway. There's no way a small income earner single Mom of two today could do what I did back then.

Even in the mid to late 2000's it was good! We have a son with a prosthetic leg, and it literally broke at Hollywood Studios. A cast member saw, and immediately came to assist us. He called for an engineer, who took the leg back to their shop. Meanwhile, we were taken to the quick service restaurant next to Star Tours, inside, in the AC, and given cold drinks and a snack. Within 20 minutes, the cast member returned with my son's prosthetic leg, fixed well enough to continue our park visit. But THEN, we were given VIP seating at the Lights, Cameras, Action stunt car show! They really went above and beyond for us! 😊

Yep was a die hard koolaid drunk Disney fan until early last year. It started to unravel… hubby and I owned DVC, used Disney Visa exclusively, had annual passes and Tables in Wonderland before the pandemic, subscribed to Disney+, and promoted them non stop to family and friends. We spent lots of money and it was my Happy Place. My last trip was May 2022 with my parents. We did not do any parks because the political writing was on the wall. Disney should have never gotten in to politics. They crossed our line in the sand. They bought our DVC back at full asking price last Nov, we used a different credit card and cancelled Disney + in Dec. It broke my heart but we have moved on. I’m happy for you!!

My opinion is that people value their entertainment and their bragging rights more than their quality of life, in that many go into big debt to go to Disney. Live in a dump, drive a beater but "we took the family to Disney". Then they file bankruptcy when they they don't have the income/funds to pay the CC debt incurred by their entertainment "needs".

My aunt worked for disney for about 15ish years and she was in a mananger position at disney's floral and gifts for a majority of those years. I got to see a lot of behind the scenes bc of that. What they did was incredible. It's tragic that Disney decided to close it and outsource it. It is such a shame because what they did was truly magical and the people that worked there were extremely passionate about what they did. Disney is going downhill quickly.

Outsourcing a function might make financial sense, but you might lose the best part. Last year I took a Princess cruise and found out they had outsourced the gift shops. I had been hoping to get my fifth ship-named magnet. Instead, they only offered a generic Princess magnet. By standardizing the merchandise, they ruined the gift shop for me.

@@asadb1990 There's a reason that "gifts" are considered one of the love languages. It isn't an "issue". If two people in a relationship both have the "gifts" love language then their relationship will be a happy one. Just because you don't experience that love language doesn't really give you the right to judge others. Everyone experiences loving relationships differently. That's why some relationships work and some don't. Different personalities have different needs. The most important part of any loving relationship is communicating your needs to each other and respecting each other's love languages.

I learned over 20 years ago that Disney decided to outsource many of its services so that they could divert money to other projects. The internal changes to Disney culture began at that time, because of the leadership they started to bring in rather than promote from within as they always did. They even started to cut hours to encourage cast members to scavenge for them. Yea, that's when I left...after 13 years of service.

I worked as a basketeer for 9 years. Heard about this through the gossip chain. I'd been gone a few years beforehand. You came in too late. When I started it was awesome. The managers were professional florists, not generic WDW managers. Back then the product we put out was unbelievable. When the both passed away the new managers had no clue. The deathknell was when we went on global scheduling. That's when I left and the exodus of good folks started. Sorry you didn't get to experience it back then when we were treated like valued staff and professionals

Thank you for the insight, Jennifer. I've never worked for Disney but I have had two relatives who did. In the case of my uncle, all he did was repair golf carts at Fort Wilderness, or I should say he was hired to run the shop that did it. Disney came to him after they did an extensive search at Country Clubs across the country, and asked him to apply with several others. In other words, they looked for the best of the best to do even what seems like menial tasks. I think that attention to detail was important. I remember staying on the resort once, back in the late 90s, and seeing a cast member checking the soil temp of the plants around the pool! I mean you don't see that at a Holiday Inn. That was back then. I've been going to DW almost every year since it opened. I missed a few back in the 80s and such, but I was there for nearly every park opening on the property. I have heard stories of declining quality for a long time, but in the past decade, I really started to see it. I believe it started with their HR practices, like what you're saying. I know a lot of cast members and where I used to think they were exaggerating about things, I now believe they're only telling me the tip of the iceberg. Disney has lost its edge and if they think people are going to keep paying more for less, they're wrong. I stopped going in 2019. It saddens me greatly, but I feel as if the company left me and not the other way around.

I honestly can't figure it out, either. Social media is rampant with complaints from once-happy longtime Disney lovers, and yet they continue down this path of destruction. During the past few years, seeing the crowd levels at Universal surge due to the unhappy former Disney diehards, has been a real eye opener. All I can think is that it must be complete chaos at the upper management levels. Disney has no creativity, no innovation, no fresh new life anymore.

My baby sis worked for Disney in Florida between her Bachelor's and her MBA. I live in the US, but we are German. She is a huge Disney fan and that's the only reason she did that. Long story short, she was on that special visa working for Disney and they had budget cuts and informed they would lay off people. Now, for most, this can be a hardship when you come from a not-so-wealthy country. My sis just volunteered to end it early, go on a cruise with Disney through the Caribbean, and end her stint in the US with a joint vacation with me and my family and our middle sister in Pensacola Beach. She still has good friends at Disney, basically permanent staff, and once in a while, she is visiting. Next time, I'm gonna join them. She gets way more vacation time than me (yay Germany, boo USA) and I could not join her this year, but we all had a family vacation in Rome together. Meanwhile, she also went twice to Disneyland Paris this year.

Good luck, I love your content. My warning would be to put whatever you need in place to protect yourself from burnout- make sure you have those guaranteed days off in a week where you completely switch off- or have two phones a personal one and a business one and turn off the business one at certain times of a day. People can wait longer than you think. Set a precedent and boundary now because almost all creators get burned out at some point because they think that if they are not giving 100% it is not enough. That is a lie, the internet will take as much of you as it can get. Please take time off too, you have to give yourself permission. Make it known "I don't work Wednesdays, Sundays and US public Holidays." to whoever needs to know or whatever works, Ie 'if you message me on Thanksgiving weekend you are NOT getting an answer until Monday' etc and have people in your life who will hold you to it. I have seen so many creators burn out over my years of watching you and I had a colleague whose child was on all of it for years and they are now a shell of their old self. There's a reason no company asks anyone to work 24/7 because it is not sustainable. I wish you well and that it all works out for you because you are amazing I thought I was subscribed and I am not (just now subscribed) and I have been watching your videos for ages and I appreciate them but any decent human is going to be caring more about you as a person rather than you as someone who gives them a product they enjoy. Please make sure you speak to your network about how to carve out time for yourself. You can't pour from an empty cup.

This this this. Often it’s only 24/7, if you fall into that. Saying no is a boss move, as is having firm boundaries on availability on time and days. People can’t absolutely wait. Also hiring people who you trust to answer the questions can be helpful too

There are so many former Disney Cast Members doing content right now! We've owned a timeshare outside Disney property in Kissimmee (Florida). We would go there every few years and had so much fun at Disney World. Then came 2020. I don't blame Disney for shutting down for months, but when we returned in October 2020, we noticed some serious issues there (besides being short staffed). The Disney Magic was gone, and it felt like everything was just an excuse to take our money. Case in point, Beauty and the Beast Castle. Prior to our visit in 2020, there was NOT a B&B Castle. So we were so excited to have a lunch reservation booked there, until they changed the menu and would force you to pay $60 pp for a price-fix menu that we couldn't afford. We couldn't ride anything in Galaxy's Edge because of the stupid Queue system for Rise of the Resistance, so we left Orlando feeling like it was a wasted trip. We then sold our timeshare a few months later, and haven't been back to Orlando since (and do not plan on returning).

Unfortunately this happens in every industry. I worked for a credit union based in Florida. They had branches in several states. I worked in Georgia. I was with them for 5 years. At our annual meeting, when all the big shots come to town, all the employees were sitting laughing, joking, wondering how much our christmas bonus was going to be. In came the big boys and we were told all the Georgia offices would be closing in about 3 months. Tears, fears, and depression followed for everyone. Glad to hear you landed on your feet. Enjoy your time. Just be sure to buy yourself good insurance. Health life and disability. Its so important. Good luck.

@@asadb1990That is such a stupid lie you've been fed. 1. High Scholar have limitations on when they can work. Mostly a handful of hours after school, but they still need time for homework and sleep. That severely limits the amount of time the businesses can be open. 2. College students in most degree paths can take internships with companies in their field of study which is a smarter choice. Set yourself up for success, don't waste time in unrelated jobs. 3. These businesses are essential. You could argue that we can do away with fast food, but we can't get rid of grocery stores. Even hotels are too useful to truly remove without the side effect of making the housing market even worse. 4. Absolutely nobody wants teenagers running a business. When you have an issue, the last person you want coming to the front as a manager is another teenager. Especially one that only views their job as an optional way of having spending money. Seriously, do you just never sit down and actually think through your own beliefs? It is entirely too easy to see the flaws in it. Every single job should pay a living wage to every single worker. Period. They can, they just won't. Absolutely nobody in a first world country should struggle to survive while working 40 hours a week. Period. Doesn't matter your job.

I had something similar happen. G4, the Video game TV channel. I grew up loving G4. When they announced they were coming back I was super excited. I had just graduated from Journalism school and I had always focused on being a video game news writer. So it felt like destiny in a way. G4, X-Play especially, is why I wanted to write about video games. So I applied and got an interview. Which lead to being offered a writing position at the New G4. For those of you familiar with the new G4, you'll know the ending of this story. I was signed on as a contract writer for the esports show. I wrote like 3 scripts before Comcast decided to lay off a large portion of the staff. "Budget cuts". A week into working for my childhood dream company, the executive producer called me, apologized profusely and said that the show was downsizing. And I was one of the people cut. G4 has since shut down but I can at least say I worked for G4 even if it was only a little over a week. Also the pay was really good for a remote writing job, 6k a month.

Disney if far from a sinking ship. They are a ship that is preparing to dock in another place. Ron DeFascist has ruined Florida's economy in so many ways, not the least of which is pushing Florida's largest employer to seek exploration of other states to move to. The state could have had a billion dollar investment but what we are getting is the slow folding up of our largest employer because Ron DeFascist is so very, very insecure that he has a childish temper tantrum whenever anyone disagrees with him. He's a toddler, emotionally. Our state needs ADULTS in charge of our government, not toddlers who throw temper tantrums every time anyone has a different opinion.

But they are definitely foolish to keep pursuing a losing strategy.

@@deantodd8103 They aren't self-sabotaging, they are looking at the coming times, the predicted patterns of weather and climate, and the opinions of the people who are young enough and have enough money to afford trips to Disney World and acting on the information gathered. NO people who are young enough - meaning young families with disposable income - are going to want bring their children to Florida anymore. The state's reputation is ruined as a vacation spot, except for drunken college students for one week a year. The old people who are Magats who have flooded the state don't take vacations in state - they go on cruises out of state. The tourist hotel, and motel industry is taking a huge hit right now. Disney is looking at the next 20-30 years when the coasts of Florida have flooded with ocean water, because THAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN, and they want to make their future investments in places where the land is not flooded. Disney looks to the future, and it always has. Florida is swiftly becoming a place mired in the past. And the old people who are being lured to live in the state by the various "villages" because they don't have to pay anyone to shovel their walks and driveways are finding out the cost of lawn care is far greater. The homes in those villages, which are largely owned by shadow corporations owned by organized crime groups - the Cuban "Marielitos" which became known as the"Familia" and now known as "the Corporation," the Russian "Bratva," and the white supremacist "Good Ole Boys," all contain low level agents of those various mobs in competition in Florida for illegal gambling, prostitution, and illegal drug trades. And that is what the people in the Villages are being exposed to. Between the balloon payments that those who would potentially inherit their parent's property in Florida that will keep them from being able to claim the inheritance, and the gambling debts and drug debts that their parents will owe to Mobsters, young people are going to stay away from Florida in the future.

I knew the florist would eventually be outsourced. Sorry you ended up being affected by that. I expect Photography is going to be the next to be outsourced. I still have friends woking there and a few are exploring outside Disney options. Watching your videos, you are exactly the type person Disney used to look for. I think it is a sign of the downfall of the company that they let you go without doing everything they can to keep you there. I hope you have continued success in content creation, but be careful.
