A look at setting up a full sounding preset on the audio processor built into SAM Broadcaster. This is the final setup and the resulting preset. Getting good sound quality from the software is not easy. This is partially because it's complicated and partially because that side of the software is a bit rubbish.
Part 2 sets up a good sounding pop/rock preset with a fairly dense, aggressive sound suitable for flat 80's music and hyper-compression music from today.
The preset created in this tutorial can be download from the folder below...

Remember, this isn't perfect. It's a fairly decent sounding preset using a limited system. I think I'd be happy with this on air.

After nearly 5 years, SME has decided to put a copyright claim on this content because I use about 8 seconds of a song when demonstrating the change the processing makes. I've had to mute that section of the video. Sorry about that.

Hi, your presets dont work with Sam Broadcaster 4.2.2, any idea about this?

Thanks for this tutorial. Untill now, when i played several tracks on my show, i notice that the sound was very distorted when enabling the AGC. Now the sound is much clearer.

Thank you SO much for the presets. I've been using SAM Pro to stream sets for parties within various MMO's, and while I'm still learning, I do want to be known for "good sound" because that's what brings the players back for the next get-together.

Thank you so very much, it is unbelievable how fantastic the music sound is, I have found dropping my mic (free standing), on the Voice FX volume down to -6.5db to get the perfect balance, still have the music volume on the decks and Voice FX on -0.9, I used to use Audacity to amplifi my songs, but on the settings that you provided in your video, is no longer needed to go through al the troubles of amplifing the songs.

i don't run one but i do have 3 classic rock shows one from Liverpool & 2 in the states, i also use SAM to record my mixes etc.

Hi TDCat I just saw your video's good work, I was able to downloads, your Setting, and I'm testing them now. They are by far better than Sam's. They give me a better reference point to work with. I do occasionally tweak on them for my Station. My Format is Smooth Jazz R&B and Contemporary music. 24/7 on the Internet. My music sounds so much better now that I have some good reference setting. Thanks for your helping us all out. Great Work. I hope we can see more tutorials on Sam Broadcaster. I also use RadioBoss as a backup. It's a good program as well. PS. I hope there's a Part 3 in the Works. lol

Really appreciate the video! A small tip, when you are adjusting the different settings it would really help if you give the exact setting while you are doing it. I'm using two screens with your video on the left and SB on the right video. I keep having to rewind the video to watch where you are setting the eq. while trying to keep up with the adjustment. Using the mouse to get the exact setting takes a couple moments...lol Thanks!

I reduced the compressor gain to -6db in each of the five bands but I still find the sound "thin" in the voice frequencies and also like to know how to increase the overall volume.

I have been using an external DSP plugin and just tried and compared the settings here to the DSP and BRAVO for your settings! My one question.. both my plugin and your settings seem to detect the 61% volume drop I have set in Voice FX when I voice-over the music. Both immediately boost the music to pre-fade volume when I hit the mic button. Disabled, the fade out is obvious. Any suggestions? Thank you!

Good question....as I've been wanting to do the same thing, add reverb to my mic, only a little more than your wanting. Hope this gets answered...and hopefully a solution.

+Hank Guitar Are you putting your mic through its own audio route in SAM? If so, you should be able to EQ this separately in the SAM audio settings. If not, your options are more limited. Does you mic have a high pass filter (some have a switch on the side)? This could let you cut the deep bass and keep it for the music.

Like one other listener, I enjoyed your setup...and I too am getting better sound out of my SAM Broadcaster, but would like for you to please....do a setup for the microphone. Some adjustment on the equalizer helps, but still don't have the deep, rich sound I use to get on other Broadcast stations back in my day. Hope to hear from you on this, thanks.

I'll have to have a go at that. It's good to hear you appreciate a decent mic processor. To be honest, SAM is pretty poor in this regard. I am trying to make the best out of a poor processor here. There are much better tools out there but even they don't beat the sound of a hardware processor. I guess mic and mic technique also help to get that deep rich sound too.

Hi! Wonderful presets. Thank You very much indeed. But You made 2 variants. So, what kind of sound do You prefer much better, dense or less dense, in 1st or 2nd preset? I would like to know Your opinion.

Depends on my mood. Generally I like something a little less dense. Clearly processed and with a ‘radio’ sound but still with a bit of dynamic range left.

But it seems to me the settings are too difficult. So, could You make tutorial how get the best settings in this programme?

Nice vid! I got a question. I make radio in a pro radiostudio. I sent sound into adobe audition (proces the sound) and from there to SAM broadcaster. What is for my the best option in SAM. I got already nice processing, but SAM make it more horrible now.....

+Quinten van Hilten If you already have processing taken care of (so you pre-process in Audition as you advise), just bypass *everything* in SAM. Nothing worse than audio put through a broadcast processor twice :-)

I keep having to click the Voice FX config button, then hit the OK button, in order to get the mic to go OTA, any idea why this is? I see in the SPACIAL forums it has to do with not having the Voice FX AGC right (and the explanation isn't there either), with so many controls though how is one supposed to figure it out? And why isn't it set to this as default?

i seem to be having trouble with my Sam 2016 pro , the volume button for sam will not go up or down when the song is on, the slider goes up and down but the volume stays the same. i've lost total control over the volume button on sams , so i have to control the volume by my computer sound mixer , this just happened yesterday after i installed my new desktop microphone. But i don't see why it would effect the "volume" control button on sams can u help me?

Hi, I'm trying to use your preset but I thought the audio was very compressed and at the same time with too much attack and too many treble! The radio is Brazilian and has a pop programming.
