GETTING HEARING AIDS - MY EXPERIENCE & WHAT IS IT LIKE?: Hello everyone. I hope you are all well? This is my second video on having hearing aids - it was filmed the day after I got them. I've since done another video a few weeks on, which I will upload soon. I hope this helps those of you who are in the same position as I was, or just teaches you something new if you are curious! xx

WHO AM I?
I'm Charlotte.
I'm 28, love carbs, rubbish 90's music, Prosecco and baths without finding a bath toy stuck under my bum.
I have a little boy called Bill (born June 2012) and a little girl called Daisy (born April 2016).
I am, very recently, a full-time vlogger and blogger (the stuff dreams are made of), but I am also a trained journalist, former magazine editor, and content lead.
I'm also part of Channel Mum - which is really worth checking out if you're a mama like me and want to find videos to make you laugh, cry, nod, or get advice. / channelmum
I was a single mum, just me and Bill. But then I had a bit of a fairytale moment when I met Mark (he's a bit lovely) and things are better than I could have hoped for now. Daisy was born with Stickler Syndrome, and a cleft palate like me. Her start has been rocky but she'll be fine. She's got a family who adore her after all.
I know that all mums are different in their own way, but I hope you enjoy seeing snippets of my life, all the same.

I described my hearing aids as my sidekick to unleash my super power of being deaf.

I'm getting mine in a weeks time (I'm 30), and this calmed me down a bit. I'm like you (mild/moderate), and I'm hopeful they'll help because I'm a teacher and... Well. Not an ideal situation to constantly need people to repeat themselves. Feel more at ease now. Thanks! Good luck going forward, too. :)

How have you got on, I noticed bird song, I hadn't realised I'd been missing it, they also reduced my tinnitus. Hope it's all going well.

@@andrewh5457 Hey! Bird song is pretty neat, huh? :D The tinnitus thing helped me a lot, too. They take some getting used to, so I so I'm glad you're having a good experience! I've been wearing mine off and on for the past few years, and I'm still working on myself about people noticing them. I get far too self conscious, lol. Thanks for replying, hope you're getting on well!

Have a hearing aid for 10 yrs but last 2 yrs my hearing has gotten a lot worse and now almost as bad in "good" ear, and what is a lot worse is the tinnitus in both ears, almost tips me over the edge. Going for a fitting in 2 wks for 2 hearing aids and I pray to god these new ones help with tinnitus. My one fear is going totally deaf and just hearing the tinnitus, wouldn't be able to cope

After years of playing guitar too loud and numerous rock concerts without ear protection, I have significant hearing loss in one ear. I’m 48 yrs old, and am being fitted for IIC hearing aids in 2 days. I’m both excited and nervous, but hearing this has slid me more to the excited than nervous. My nervousness has more to do with the perceived stigma than actually needing them. Thank you for this vlog, I’m glad I found it.

Thank you so much for this! I am 17 and getting my first pair of hearing aids tomorrow as I now have severe hearing loss in my right ear and moderate in my left. I am quite anxious but also very excited. I do have some mental illnesses that cause me to go into sensory overload and its a terrible feeling so I hope that it will not be too intense. Thanks your for sharing the benefits but also some of the struggles. I feel more prepared now.

I never comment on RU-vid but I wanted to tell you how much I appreciated you sharing your journey. I am 43 and was told that I needed HA for a few years but very resistant but my hearing got so bad that I had to take the plunge or continue to live in a fog. Although I don’t have mine yet, I should get them in the next couple of weeks. Your video made it less scary and Again I thank you for sharing.

I love how you fans are so positive.🥰 At a young age I would be in the doctor cause of my hearing. I improved but now that I am 18 for some reason my hearing just got lower and my doctor is going to see if I really need them. Tbh i don’t want them cause I feel like people are just so negative and seeing your video makes me feel better especially if I really need them. Your not alone hun. Like if your a hearing aid member...🥰

ive got hearing aids to I'm 12 and I got them at 5 to be honest after a while you just get so used into them and sometimes you don't even think your wearing them but I have selective hearing so I cant hear the letters s or h and so on(like high pitch) I go to a normal public school and I'm grateful that I'm not being bulled because I'm primary I was. I know that I need to stick up for my self. about 2 weeks ago I got new hearing aids because my ears got really sweaty , I know your probable saying well get invisible hearing aids. well infact I have and unfortunately my hole to my ear drum and clocklear is to small on my right ear ( I've tried the smallest tube) and it hurts so I have to have these ones. this video is really helpful thank you sooooo much :D I think I forgot to mention that I have hearing aids in both ears

Oh bless you, Charlotte. I really want to give you a hug and tell you how flipping amazing, you are. You, are still you, no one can take that from you. I can't quite remember if I read it or heard it, recently. But it was referring to antidepressants for mental health and basically, it said if you were Diabetic, you wouldn't think twice about taking insulin. So if you have depression, why should you not try antidepressants. You, my lovely, are hard of hearing, so why not have something to help you. If you were hard of seeing, you wouldn't think twice, about getting glasses. You, are going to be raising your beautiful children, to know that it is okay, to be different, it is okay to need help. Personally, I think you are pretty damned awesome. Lots of love xoxo 💛

Well done for sharing this Charlotte. I think you're so brave, because like you say, we are all much harder on ourselves. I definitely can't hear as well as I could since having the children and would be scared to take a test in case I ended up with aids. But that's silly really isn't it because why not help yourself if you need it? It's no different to wearing glasses really and I wouldn't mind that at all. I think yours are so discreet, you can't really tell you're wearing them at all, I suspect most people don't notice you've got them in. Xxx

you are talking more softly in this video is it because daisy is sleeping or because you can hear yourself more?, don't worry about the hearing aids lovely they help you hear just like our glasses help us see but our glasses are more prominent but I understand how you feel conscious about them it's only natural at first x

Same as mine I get little bit string cut off, they are great hearing aids I don't feel them in,I was wearing my left and not as much my right but been told to wear them all the time,I have really bad tinnitus and she's turned one of mine up and it's died down in one ear, hearing aids are free and even the batteries are free,I got telling off as I've to take them in every 2 or 3 months to get plastic piece changed,it was my tinnitus got me sent to clinic and they found hearing lost,it got two small Brown cases and got new case Friday, don't know if you were same but when they turned mine on I spoke and my voice seemed so loud,I was embarrassed and the ladies said it's usual as you haven't been hearing your own voice properly, and yes I had sensory overload, that's why so important to keep them in to let brain get used to new sounds, good luck and don't worry I'm twice your age and your hubby won't bother,no one will notice, xxxxxx💖💗💖

Great video Charlotte. You've got the same ones as me. It's interesting to see you with your hair up as although I've had mine for 2 years and they don't bother me at all, I do have a slight nervousness about putting my hair up in case they can be seen. I can see from you that you really can't see them. Maybe I'll get brave and try doing something with my hair in future! I remember the first few days - it's odd but in time your ears and brain adjust to processing the sound and life just becomes a lot brighter. Glad Mark is so supportive. My husband is an audio engineer and amusingly predicted my prescription and got it right! 😆

I'm about to have hearing aids fitted next month. Im 38 now and finally admitted to my family that I've struggled to hear them since I was a child. I got through the years by learning to lip read, hence why my family never knew I had hearing loss. I'm a shy guy and suffered a lot of childhood bullying, so this is making me worry that my work mates will see the hearing aids and make fun of them. I know it sounds daft.

I got mine yesterday and I am still overwhelmed, the audiologists clinic was in the mall so when she puts them I was annoyed by my voice echoing but she said I am going to get used to it , when I left from the clinic to the mall I was literally hearing everything actually I was smiling because I was able to hear everything, I heard the people around me clearly but I am still irritated that I hear every sounds , that I am not used to hear like the clock tickling and the water dropping, l think my life was quieter but I will get used to it and enjoyed the surrounding sounds . The thing that overwhelmed me the most , even though I have a mild to moderate hearing loss, I was missing a lot of sounds.

I am older than you (61) and I was prescribed/given two NHS hearing aids yesterday. They are made by ReSound Danalogic and the sound that I am hearing is a bit of a strange. I can hear a sort of "white noise", similar to a radio when it isn't tuned on a station.I can even hear the loose coins rattling in my pocket, which is weird. My audiologist advised me not to wear them for more than a hour a day at first and it to increase the length of time as days go by. I see this video is now a year old. How are you getting on with the hearing aids now? Thanks, Rob.

I’ve been wearing my hearing aids on and off since I was a little girl I am 24 now! I’ve had a love/hate relationship with them, I have really small ear canals so when I put my hearing aids in it can cause ear wax and block my ears! Also I find them so uncomfortable I have the exact same hearing aids as you! I am definitely going to book another hearing appointment and see what they suggest about the blocking x

I had my NHS audiology appointment just over a week ago and was told I would have to wait a couple of months for my hearing aids fitting. My letter came through today and it said 13 weeks! How long did you have to wait if you don't mind my asking? I am not sure why I have to wait so long, it could be because I am in Devon and we have long waiting lists on the NHS for everything here. Also, I need CROS aids so not sure if that has an impact.

Sean Priest it’s been 6 months since I was told by the audiologist that I need hearings aids, literally just had my appointment with the ENT doctor as they needed to do extra tests and they’ve now told me I need to wait 12 weeks to have my hearing aids fitted. I think it is just the wait times unfortunately. Good luck with them though! I’m sure the wait will be worth it 😊

Leah Browning hi. Yes, I am happy to wait considering the amount of money I will be saving by not going private. I've coped for decades without any aids so a few months wait is nothing really. I'm just excited and eager to try them :) I hope all works out for you.

Sean Priest yea definitely lots of savings from sticking with the nhs! I’ve been doing lots of research of different types of hearing aids and technology on them is incredible! You can even get ones which connect to your iPhone now haha! They do cost, like she said in the video, around £3000 per pair and from speaking with some family members (nearly all of my family on my mums side wears hearing aids) you have to replace them roughly every 5-6 years so that’s £3000 every time you change them 😱 thank you 😊

Leah Browning it's insane how much they can cost isn't it? I've been in contact with a rep at Cochlear who has been advising me on the BAHA (bone anchored hearing aid) and it is pretty cool. It has complete iPone compatibility. Im going to try my traditional hearing aids for few months then might trial the BAHA.

I'm so interested in your journey lovely. Genuinely can't see a thing. So glad you took the step to getting them and I hope you settle into them and can appreciate all the nice new noises. Besides the traffic, have you noticed any new noises with Mark or the kids that you weren't aware of before? xx

I'm glad it's interesting! I find it quite interesting too - I feel like I'm a bit of a guinea pig for my own knowledge if that makes any sense at all! I'm a few weeks on now and they are much less invasive. I've got an update I need to edit actually. I just notice things are much stronger now. I can hear Mark breathing, or birdsong is so crisp and lovely, whereas before I think I only heard it if it was a really gobby bird! :D Daisy's cry is probably the biggest difference as it REALLY hurts my ears now. xx

How bad is your hearing
@lisayeates6777
@lisayeates6777 7 лет назад
as a child i was severly deaf due to glue ear, at age 3 i had adnoids out and gromets put in, the gromits failed after a few months and had them redone, hearing was great or so i thought as i really had no idea of what was good or bad, i am moderatly deaf with mid to low freqency loss in one ear and mid to high freqency loss in the the other ear, tinitus was horrendous like having a trumpet in my head all the time, but the hearing aids help to minimise the tinitus,

i am 39 years old, i an in uk so my nhs service covered all costs of my aids, had audiology at the hospital and they fitted them and programed them there, i have oticon spirit synergy with a in ear speaker, but getting molds made as the in ear bit is a bit tickly

Charlotte, Thank you for sharing your experience. I will be getting hearing aids soon, so I have been researching to know what to ask my ENT Dr and audiologist this week. You were very helpful for me!
