We struggle this week and get some help from "The Professor", Jason Robbins! Then we put my daughter in the race car to turn some laps for her very first race experience outside the Wisconsin Dells go-cart track ever! :-)
Hello, I'm Charlie... a guy well past the age where you should jump in a stock car and go slide around on dirt, but when you've dreamt of doing this since you were a kid watching your uncle win races all over the midwest in the 70's and 80's, you gotta give it a shot while you can. Did I mention I have no idea what I'm doing and not a good mechanic??? Join us as we chase a dream in the IMCA Hobby Stock division at our local dirt tracks at the Dubuque County Fairgrounds and the Lafayette County Speedway. Maybe we'll even visit some other tracks in Iowa and Wisconsin this summer! Thanks so much for watching, and please subscribe to see our weekly video updates! :-)

That's kinda what this is all about... time capsule of what we're trying to do, and show that no matter where you are in the field, it's hard work and a challenge! Thank you for your service, and love ya' back! :-)

@Old Guy Hobbies your welcome, I'm lookin to start up a hobby stock an race at the grundy county speedway that's like 30-40 mins from my house. It's an asphalt track. Hobby stock is what my family did for the longest an pro street stock. It's all I wanna do is race. But getting started is proving to be difficult. So i get to live vicariously through you lol. Although I would race dirt also. I'd race wherever. I'd die happy if I could just race once.

I just found your channel been watching your video. First off I'm not telling you how to drive your car .this is what really help me .I see you sawing on the wheel back an fort your fore arms are almost vertical. I was doing the same thing. Had a older racer tell me Smooth driving is how you go fast .he told me to move my steering wheel forward till you have just a slight bend in your arms .then he said try diving with just your left hand this well make you get Smooth .one hand you can go from 9 o'clock to 3 o'clock in a nice easy motion. I really like watching your video .I can't wait to see the new car in action. My car is setting on top of a shipping container waiting for me .one more year of support an I hope to get it back out. ill be 56 old .👍👍👍👍👍

When a track is tacky, who ever has HP will run up front. If you dont have adequate HP you will have hard time running up front. You will drive a tacky track dif than slick dry track. You can drive the car into corner way deeper, hit brake and get the car to rotate and then back on the throttle. Usually you can just flat foot the throttle when its tacky. Being tacky, you will have more than enough traction and your car will tighten up. You will need to loosen it up some, add a little more rear brake if you have brake bias adj. You'll want to air your tires up a few pounds all the way around. Anywhere 3 to 5 pounds. When its slick and dry, the good drivers will show. Hitting your marks and being smooth on throttle are key. Easy on the throttle. There are times where im not full throttle till half way up straightaway. Traction will be limited, so letting air pressures down will give tire bigger contact patch and more grip. Dont want to get too low tho. We usually tighten up car when it slicks off. Few rounds down on left rear weight jack. Take stagger out of the car. May need to adjust brake bias to more front brake. Regarding your starts/restarts, to me it looks like your getting caught sleeping a little. The car in front of you is going and then you go. Also looks like your laying back a little too much as well. Get right on their ass, and watch the car in ahead of the car your behind (2 Rows Up), and when that car goes, you go! If you are .2 tenths late on the gas than the car in front of you, by time you get to turn 1 hes could have a few car lengths on you. Gearing is a huge factor. Are u geared too high and bogging down? Are you out powered? Starts/Restarts are a crucial part of racing n We all were rookies at some point or another. If you enjoy it and keep doing it you will eventually get there. Respect the other drivers, and be clean. But also dont take no shit either.

100% everything you just said is spot on! And this year, we'll actually have the brake bias to adjust! Another thing to learn. :-)

@oldguyhobbies3236 awesome man! Having your brakes adjusted and dialed in are huge. It's a very important tool. Keep at it, your doing great. And don't be hard on yourself if you don't always have good runs. Every week is a new week. That's one thing I've noticed myself early on I may run like shit tonight but next week I'll win by a straight away. How it goes sometimes.

Hey bud you know at every track in each class there is only one winner and I have only won one race. I have a lot of second and thirds but only one win and a lot people came out to watch me race! So now I can’t race so I’m going to watch you progress in your racing career. Hope you get a lot more views!

not sure of you're track rules start with a 5inc spacer on your right rear get that wheel and tire out some and a heavier shock on right rear and go from there you may have to play with some lead weights to get your balance corrected it lots of work but you will find a balance.
@oldguyhobbies3236
@oldguyhobbies3236 Год назад
Spacers and weight are illegal in our class. Rules are super restrictive, which is why we stay bunched up so much. We're all pretty close in power & handling (which is terrible). Lol. ;-)
