At some point the outlook on finance in marriage shifts and you stop thinking about it as 50/50 or income dependent but more like one number for the entire household. And if both are aligned in terms of future goals and spending behavior then many potential arguments about finance just disappear

We also eloped, and that was fun! Rings are so tricky! My husband and I both have two rings, one for the winter and one for the summer when your hands swell from +90f weather.

Attraction isn't a choice, if they like you some arbitrary criteria e.g. wrong color hair, no hair, height etc... won't be a deal breaker. Speaking of weddings, my friends still rave about how good the food was at our wedding 😁 We had the traditional 8 course Chinese/Vietnamese dinner, but at a more modern venue.

My niece just did a perfect wedding. My sister enjoyed so so much. I don't think it costs a lot of money in Asia. It is a good memory. It is only once in a lifetime. I don't think money will be an issue for you two because there is different ways to save money in the wedding. But, time may be an issue for many people. Best wishes to both of you.

For the mortgage part, I know sf has high property prices, but even in hk, my mom always insists that couples should get separate flats instead of buying one together, even if it means buying a cheaper flat. She always emphasizes the importance of financial independence.

Congrats! What will really get your parents excited is once you have kids and they get to play with them (especially when they call them yeh yeh and nai nai for the first time!). Daycare costs are no joke though at $500 to $600 per week per kid in many major cities for Monday to Friday (full-time) care.

Screaming here because YES YES YES!!! I need more intelligent 30 yo girlies doing this because when I did it (October 11 2023) I got a lot of flack from people saying we did it wrong or we're "cheap" and all that stuff hahahaha. We live in Copenhagen, Denmark - our parents are back in Lebanon so flying people here is expensiiiiiive, we didn't want to pay 10 OR 100 grand for a single night back there and we want to own a house (too) and it's just a lot of hassle for just a night!!! So yes - courthouse and yes cutie pictures. I bought a designer dress but I wanted that, and my ring is almost same specs haha also lab grown. We have a shared account where we're saving for a house deposit for next year, but we do have our money perfectly split. No last name change. 😆 And the stresssss lol same. Sister, same.
