Here's my theory on grub lore: the knight shows up when Gwimble tries to cast spells because he is not physically able to and he asked the knight for help and that is why the knight also appears when collecting spells because Gwimble can't use them so the knight takes the spells, and the knight also helps Gwimble to grab other items such as monarch wings

Fun fact, it is a theory that after a while that the reason the grubfather eats the grubs is to have them burst out of him to become the grubberflys

Fun fact. The grubfather most likely did not ingest the grubs. Many insects actually burrow into their parents and eat them to metamorphosize into their adult forms. I imagine it’s slightly different for the hollow knight grubs but they are most likely alive and just turning into grubberflies.
