Airalo should absolutely pay you for this, you did a better walk through than their website, thank you very much! I’ll be using your code next time I buy another eSIM.
I'm an old guy and will be using eSim for the first time on an upcoming trip to Spain instead of Verizon's international plan. I've watched a number of similar videos and your video has been the most helpful. Thank you!
@@briansteph and this old guy and his wife are going on a river cruise in the Spring, and we'll be bouncing back and forth from the different countries along the Rhine. We tried a River cruise 6 years ago and had to come home early and Verizon got us real good, even just for a few days.
It's very confusing for the first little bit, that was me too! Tried to make instructions I would have wanted when i was installing my first eSIM. Happy to hear it helped you! Safe travels 😊
Honestly mate. Airalo should have paid you for this video. This is by far the best Airalo tutorial I’ve ever seen on RU-vid. Not only it’s super clear, but you’ve also made it extremely simple.
Truly appreciate the kind words - happy to know that it helped you out! Making the whole process simple was my goal, so I'm glad to hear it's come across that way. Thanks again mate - cheers!
Thank you so much! I can't tell you how many videos I've watched about using an esim and yours is honestly the only one I found that shows how to do it step-by-step, in clear, concise terms. I bailed out of most of the others because they were either needlessly confusing or going off on tangents. Thanks for your focus and clarity which is apparently a rare thing when making a video about esim! You made it sooooo easy!
Thanks so much for the kind words, I appreciate you taking the time! Great feedback and encouragement too, as this was my first time putting together a video of this style. So glad to hear you found it helpful...safe travels!
@@briansteph surprised to read that it was your first video of this style. It's awesome! My only tiny critique is that you clicked through some screens really quickly. I rewound a copy times in order to screenshot a couple of them. Good job!
Thank you Brian. I will Airalo eSim the first time next week when I visit Europe. You explain Airalo in simple language and it’s helpful for a 60 years old man like me. Much appreciated. The $3 saving, too.
I spent 90 minutes on the online chat with Airalo, and I learned more from this video of yours that they could provide me. Thanks for making it clear and simple.
You are the reason I purchased Airalo! Your video is the best tutorial I have ever watched -- clear, logical, good tone, no BS fill-in... They definitely need to pay you well! I had never heard of an esim and was confused and apprehensive... Thank you!
Thanks so much for this nice comment, I appreciate you taking the time! So glad to hear this video was what you needed to feel comfortable with an eSIM as well...it can certainly be intimidating and confusing. Haha I would love to make videos for them and get paid...I have had a few people mention that now. Very kind. I'm not directly sponsored by them, but i have joined their affiliate program recently (after making this video). So if you click the link in the description when you go to make your purchase, it will give us a small commission. Nothing crazy, but anything helps to keep the channel growing (affiliate link clicks, video likes, subscriptions, etc)...and the best part is that it doesn't cost anything to do 😊 Let me know if you have any questions about your eSIM...I try and respond quickly and help research a question if i don't know the answer. Safe travels! ✈️
@@briansteph HI Brian, I watched this video about a while ago when you were heading to Europe where you would be giving this Airalo esimm a try. I wanted to ask how it did work? Was it as easy as you were hoping? And did it work the way you anticipated? Thanks for answering this. Steve
@@stevewanke2470 Hey Steve! Yes it worked wonderfully. This was my 2nd time using the European regional eSIM through Airalo...I have now used it in 9 countries between my 2 trips there and have had no issues. Steph uses my hotspot as well, so there is data for both of us to share. Still highly recommend!
You are great help. I just purchased an eSIM for my trip to Greece in May. It’s my first time using eSIM. After watching your video I feel confident. Thanks Brian
You're very welcome Wendy, thanks so much for the nice comment! Glad the video was helpful to you. Hope you have a wonderful trip to Greece - safe travels ✈️
I appreciate that a ton! The hardest part of making these videos is packing in everything that someone would need to know, without the video getting too long or having unnecessary commentary. So, thanks for the nice comment...means a lot. Safe travels ✈️
I have used Airalo twice. I give them 5 stars. Very affordable cellular data. When you get to where you are going you automatically connect. Top up is very easy.
@@annge5730 we are Verizon customers in the US. We only used data with Airalo. We used Facebook Messenger to make calls on Wi-Fi and Messenger for, of course messaging. We did not make conventional calls nor did we conventionally text. It worked well for us. We are planning to do the same next year in Scotland and Scandinavia. We aren’t willing to shell out the bigger bucks for another plan. We will shop around some, but our needs were met with what we did.
Thanks for making this excellent “how to” video. I forwarded it to my daughter who is travelling to Europe for the first time in a couple of weeks. Your directions are straightforward and easy to follow. Just what she needs.
Seriously!! I love how you reiterate many of the “common sense” stuff one would ask to make sure they’re doing it correctly. This was super helpful! Thank you 🥹🥹🥰🥰
Thankyou for the discount code! This video makes it super easy and takes the stress out! I’m used to physical SIM cards so this was different-and very simple. So glad I don’t have to keep track of my physical SIM card any longer!
Brian, thanks so much for this. We ventured to Ireland last year and I did the whole - get a physical sim at the airport- that was not fun! This year I did some research (youtube and tech websites) and we are hitting continental Europe with Airalo! But your video really made a difference in the installation and set process.
Hey Julie, so happy to hear this was helpful to you! It's certainly a lot less hassle than the physical SIMs. I've been using the regional european eSIM on and off for over 2 years now and it's been awesome. Hope you have a great time on your trip!!
Sooooo helpful and a better choice than relying on our USA carrier for 'international' coverage; too expensive!!! Just need a couple of Gs to cover us when we are out and about and away from a wi-fi enabled rental car or hotel. Other videos i've seen are confusing. You explained things very clearly, step by step and were very attentive to any concerns your viewers might have. I also liked that you explained what to do AFTER the esim was installed. I will definitely watch again as we get closer to our departure. Thank you!
Hey Tish - thanks so much for taking the time to leave this comment, I appreciate it a ton! This was my first tutorial video, so comments like this are encouraging to read. I had the same trouble as you finding a video on this service that I felt was comprehensive enough, and explained what to do once I got to Europe. I took a little bit of a gamble on it the first time we went overseas and was able to figure it out, but felt like it would be super helpful for others to have as a resource as well. Thanks again & safe travels! ✈️
Many thanks for creating such a good video and explanation of using Airalo. Easy to follow with clear and concise instructions. Installed my esim while watching and now it's ready to go.
Awesome Alex, glad to hear this was helpful - thanks for the nice comment! Hope you had a great time in Turkey...we may be in Istanbul in October if you have any recommendations. Cheers!
I learned about this app yesterday while planning my vacation for this summer. The last time I travelled, it was so hard and expensive to get data while in the US. This app is a blessing! Your video is the best one I found that explained the process in a way that is clear and concise. Now my vacation will be awesome!
This is the first video that I have come across where all of the info to utilize an esim is clear and concise! Now I feel super confident that it’s the way to go for us on our trip to Norway this summer. Thanks so much!
So happy to hear that, glad you found it helpful! This is the first video i have done in this format, so that's encouraging to hear. Enjoy your Norwegian summer, we are jealous! Definitely want to make it up that way one of these days. Safe travels!
Brian!!! You da best.. thanks a million for your easy peasy step by step instructions.. And thanks for the 3 bucks discount!! Be well and happy travels mister ;)
Thank you for making this very easy to understand! Your instructions were so clear and helpful! You should absolutely get paid for this!!! By far, yours is the best video I've seen explaining all of this! Will use your code! Thanks!
Thank you so much for the kind and thoughtful comment, I appreciate it! So happy to hear this was clear and helpful to you. Hope you have great and memorable travels!
Brian states that eSIM are “easier” but it is more than that. The ability to activate the eSIM while still in one’s home area and then to choose it once at one’s destination is so much better than having to buy a physical SIM at one’s destination and then try to install and activate it without using expensive roaming data with one’s native service. The last time I did that I was sitting outside a SBUX in the rain (inside was closed due to COVID) and had to use their wifi, which was spotty because I was outside the store, trying to activate my SIM.
This was an amazing tutorial! I am a planner and all the tech options for travelling had me mesmerized. Love the step by step and how articulate you are in your explanation! My partner and I are doing the Camino soon - 30 days of walking/hiking so contact back home is essential. I feel so much more confidant now :)
This is such a nice comment Yvonne, thanks so much for taking the time to write this! Ooh awesome, I have heard of that trail before...definitely something we are interested in as well. Would love to hear what you think afterwards! Glad you feel better about the phone setup - safe travels out there on the trail 😃
Thank you Brian. Excellent video and tutorial on how to use eSIM. Airalo is user friendly but watching your video was really helpful with all your tips and explanations on what to do pre-trip/ during trip. My wife and I are going to Thailand and Bali this October and will be getting the Asia eSIM data package… :) Keep up to the good work. Cheers
Thanks so much for the thoughtful comment, so glad to hear this helped you! Sounds like an awesome trip. My sister has spent a lot of time in that region and has exclusively used that Airalo package you mentioned...works great for her. Hope you both have a wonderful time - safe travels! ✈️
I watched six RU-vid videos about buying/installing/activating the Airalo app. I also watched all of the Airalo on-line videos about their app. I found the Airalo videos far too detailed and therefore very confusing. The other RU-vid videos weren't much better but your video was extremely helpful and much easier to follow through with your screenshots. Great job. I've used Airalo successfully in New Zealand and Australia and I'll be trying it in Europe next. I've seen comments about it not working well in some countries (specifically Japan). Has anyone had any experience with Airalo in Japan?
Truly glad to hear that, and I appreciate you taking the time to leave this encouraging comment - thank you! I have used it twice in Europe with no issues now, not Japan quite yet. I have had a few folks comment about travel plans to Japan, but haven't had anyone come back and let us know how it went. Hopefully someone will! Enjoy your trip to Europe - safe travels ✈️
Thank you so much! Yours was the first video that gave info about settings on the iPhone AFTER the sim was installed. What to turn on and off etc. perfect 🎉
This is a great video! Thank you. I am trying out Airalo this weekend in Canada (as a trial run for a larger trip we are taking to Japan in the fall) and you made the process of understanding the process of getting the card clear. Now to see how it goes with toggling to the service in Canada in a couple of days. Thanks!
Awesome, glad it made the process go smoothly for you! Let me know how the activation goes if you have time. Canada is beautiful, hope you have a wonderful trip - safe travels ✈️
@@briansteph : Had a fantastic experience using Airalo in Canada. We were crossing the boarder at Buffalo, NY and while we waited to go through customs I was able to get the eSIM to connect to a Canadian cell provider with no real issues. The only thing I had to do was manually select a carrier. The auto connect seemed to not work. But once I toggled to show the providers and I selected one that was part of the list that Airalo said was approved, I had cell data instantly. Thank you again for this great video to get this prepared before leaving.
That's awesome to hear! So glad it worked out for you. Interesting about needing to manually select the network, but good that you had that option too, and no issues once connected. Hope you had a great trip!
Such an outstanding presentation that was hugely helpful. Your exacting details step by step made the whole process of setting up easy. I am a college professor and have to say your style of talking was excellent. I will be heading to Canada in a couple of weeks and look forward to clicking a few buttons and turning it on. Your comment about having to buy SIM cards locally is true. Years of traveling with SIM cards has only one good side, a collection of SIM cards that you stow in a box never to be used again. UGH
Thanks so much for the compliments David! So encouraged to hear the presentation style was impactful. I spent ~5 years at a large corporation as a New Hire Coach, and do my best to not leave the small details out that may seem obvious, just in case. I appreciate you taking the time to comment - hope you have a great trip to Canada, we love it there!
Hello thank you for your video it was great. I feel a lot better about buying Airalo esim now and was constantly doing google research about which was the better company to go with. I have one question download speed how was this during your past travels? Is speed important when using data, I mean I'm not watching a movie lol
Thanks so much for checking out the video - super happy to hear that it was helpful to you! That's a great question about the DL speed. I can only recall having a slower connection once or twice, and it was when we were traveling between cities (such as, on a train in the middle of a countryside rather than in a city center). That makes sense though, because your phone is using Airalo to connect to the local carriers in any given place, and most carriers do have spots within their coverage areas that aren't as strong of a signal, or maybe even are a "dead zone". i know this is true for me at home here in the US with Verizon...every now and again, i'll be somewhere where my signal isn't all that strong. That said, I personally didn't experience a time where the connection was so slow that I was unable to complete a task I wanted to complete. But as I mentioned, none of what I was doing was extremely data-heavy (mostly using Google Maps and the internet to look things up). Slower speeds could impact making a call through FaceTime, but that would be true if you were a local in whatever area you were in on the same carrier. Ultimately, it'll be dependent on the carriers that Airalo is connecting you to and not Airalo itself that determines your speeds. If you are mostly in populated areas, you should have sufficient speed...if you are in less populated areas, you may have slower speeds at times, just as you would expect may happen with your native mobile carrier. Again, I never had a problem, and like you said, I wasn't streaming movies or anything either. Europe also has a ton of public WiFi that is typically pretty solid, so I used that every so often as well to save on the data i was using with Airalo. Hopefully that helps answer your question - thanks for asking!
That's awesome to hear, thanks for coming back and letting me know! Hope you had a wonderful time there and glad you made it back safely. My sister has been there for a few weeks this summer as well and has been having the time of her life. We are hoping to do the same soon. Thanks again for the comment!

You should have touched on using the data sim with iMessage. There is a whole lot to do to make iMessage work and then once you are done with the data sim switching it back. also turning off your primary line removes your number from iMessage and FaceTime and causes more heartache than it is worth. just turn off data roaming.
fair points! i certainly should have mentioned switching the sims back since i've had a few questions about that already. And yes, iMessage removes your number. I supposed we have always used our Apple Id emails via iMessage when we are using it internationally. Tried to include as much as possible, but knew i couldn't remember or have time to include everything, so thanks for chiming in!
Bryan, perhaps you can hear me applauding you for making this great video! You are clear; concise; understandable; and, Give a marvelous presentation! 19:02 These remarks are made by me a (Male)senior Citizen, who has an ,Apple 13-Pro. I would really appreciate if you would notify me if you plan to make anymore videos.
Hi Nemo - thank you so very much for the generous compliment! There are many more videos in the works. My wife and I will be uploading some highlight reels from our recent trip to Europe, along with separate videos detailing some of our favorite locations and spots that we recommend. Plenty of other videos planned related to travel and planning for travel as well! I actually released a video since this one came out that shows how I find unique locations when planning for a trip that you may also enjoy...let me know if you get a chance to watch 🙂 Subscribing to the channel and enabling the notification bell should alert you of any future videos too! Hope you enjoy them 😀
Sometimes in Europe it can be beneficial to purchase a country specific SIM. With the European package you cab be limited to say LTE speed, but a country specific can allow for example 5G. This varys from country to country so make sure you check.
Such a wonderful walkthrough. Great job making this! Pacing and information is on point. There's a lot of general information out there, but you covered everything big and small concerning eSIMs while going abroad.
Hey Grant - thanks so much for this nice comment! Encouraging to read stuff like this, and happy to hear that others are finding the information useful. I try to make resources that I would have wanted a couple years ago when I was first diving into all of this. Thanks again - safe travels! ✈️

Hi there! I just wanted to thank you for the helpful guide! I used an esim for the first time for my trip and I really appreciated how you explained each step clearly and it really helped to clear my worries when it came to using esims. Will definitely be using esims over physical sim cards for my travels in the future! :)
Absolutely, so glad it helped you! Happy to help with any questions as best I can as well. I also have an FAQ video that may be useful as you get closer to your travels. Hope you have a wonderful trip - safe travels! ✈️
Superbly clear just bought my eSIM for Saudi for Saturday…I’m very new to the eSIM world…I look forward to switching on as I land ! You did well to highlight all those fears that we all have ref being charged like a wounded bull ref our home carrier every time we go abroad…fingers crossed it all goes smoothly…next challenge is actually how much data we actually use day to day so we can best choose a plan! Thank a lot Brian - I used your code too so spend the $3 wisely!
Hey Steve - glad to hear this was helpful to you, thanks for the nice comment! Yes indeed, definitely happy to not have those international charges anymore. You can always start with a smaller amount of data, knowing that you can add more for the same cost as it would be to buy a new eSIM. "Topping up" is extremely easy and can be done at any time, so I typically suggest starting with an amount of data that lives around the low end of what you think you'll need, knowing that you can add more at any time. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions - safe travels! ✈️
Thanks guys! I suppose the obvious question I have is that presumably you need data in order to buy extra data! (Or if course wifi!) Will it notify you when you’re about to run out of data so you can then act quickly or will it just run out. I will naturally be keep on top of my usage but just wondered if the top up process was made easier by timely reminders? Thanks again! 😀
@stevejones3864 Yes correct, you'll need an initial package in order to buy more! I don't recall the exact intervals at which Airalo sends reminders, but you will get push notifications and emails by default when you start to run out. I know there is a reminder at the 25% remaining mark. You can also purchase more before you run out, as Airalo will continue to use your original package until it's gone before tapping into any "top up" packages.
Hi guys, just completed my first trip with Airalo and it was brilliant ! Thank you so much.. Came into another country and used a different eSIM - was all going well - I had 750 mb left when checked (I check often in these early stages!) but then the following morning my network wasn’t working. Got into wifi to see all my data had gone and I have since topped up some more. 3 questions.. 1) does Airalo not give any notification when you’re running low? I expected some sort of notification … ??? 2) the only explanation as to bit used up so much data so quickly is because I have auto download of WhatsApp photos switched on and I been receiving a fair few photos as I’m in a group tour and ptople like to share! Do you think this might be the source of quick data usage or do you have any other thoughts 3) I’ve got data roaming switched off for my current eSIM and things seem to work fine. Always reluctant to switch on data roaming anywhere but in UK but Airalo seems to suggest I should have it in for my active eSIM.. help!!?? Many thanks Steve
I should've watched this before I did it- lol. I think it's easier from the app as opposed to online. Another confusing things is that Airalo should never give a message "Activating e-Sim" because it makes you think it's going live, as opposed to simply installing it. However, your info about it not starting until it pings the tower at your travel destination makes a lot of sense. If this is your first time doing a video with this format, I'm impressed!! Thanks.
Hey Neil - thanks so much for the comment! I agree, that language can be a little concerning...wouldn't mind if they changed that to say something else. Appreciate you checking out the video and glad to hear it's insightful...safe travels! ✈️
This video and your other one FAQs have been excellent and so helpful. Not used eSIMs before, either just only had WiFi at hotels or when in Europe Pais extra of my contract. Going to China in a couple of weeks and this has been so useful. The Great Firewall of China makes even more complex, watching China specific videos has helped to understand VPNs (and my understanding is Airalo doesn't need an additional one) but the detail you go into and reading your helpful comments to questions has given me the detail I needed. Many Thanks.
Thanks so much for the nice comment Duncan, I appreciate it a ton! Glad the videos have been useful to you, that's certainly the goal. I do remember someone else commenting about visiting China on one of these videos awhile back and remember it worked out for them...I can try to dig that up if you'd like! Otherwise, hope you have a great trip to China - safe travels!
