This is me sharing my thoughts about how and why i started repairing modded consoles, and after i talk about my perspective on the topic, i'll share some intro jobs, where doing things like this will help you enter the hobby without the feeling of it being a daunting task
It's all about just opening a console, cleaning it, and putting it back together, do that to all your consoles, and that's how you'll teach yourself. thats what i did

Some of the happiest memories from my childhood were playing Harvest Moon on GameCube with my brother. I ended up with a hard drug addiction and sold all of my games and consoles. Harvest Moon and the Gamecube were hard to get rid of. It's been years and I'm clean now, and I finally felt like it was time to get another. I played for two days before it broke. (Won't power on) I feel like the universe is saying, "Oh nah, dude. You gotta EAAAARN it." I WILL fix this god**** GameCube. My inner child demands it. This video makes it seem very possible and I'm grateful for the encouragement.

My reasons for fixing devices are mainly to make it last as long as it can, 2nd I hate being wasteful and throwing stuff away, 3rd plain and simple it's nice and fun to look at circuitboard it's almost like a city, 4th helping I just love to help paid or not it's just a nice feeling of being helpful. Basically repairing has so many benefits and joy to it.

The main reason I want to get into modding is because my old Wii is sitting in my closet and I want to transform it into an emulation box so I can install GB, GCN, N64, and other retro game collections onto the system.

You were talking about people being helpful in the repair/modding community....you are absolutely correct. Usually in the forums I visit, the youtube channels I sub to, 95% of the time I get numerous responses with suggestions. There are always the trolls in any community, but usually the good guys outnumber them 10-1 or more. You are one of the best at information sharing/being helpful etc... Truly a great channel...Thanks for being a great member of a great community!

people where paying me to fix their game consoles, and most of the time all i was doing was just opening them up and cleaning it, and i was like "why are people paying me to do something they can do" i mean, i couldent believe i was being paid for it. i'm trying to just get people to fix their own consoles if it's easy enough, and i'll just do the solder work for them, until they learn to solder! hence all the informational types of videos on my channel lol

Love the video intro. Recently something in me sparked my excitement for reliving my childhood memories with my Ps1 and 2 and the n64. I bought a refurbished n64 set up just to get playing. Then I thought jeez I wonder what goes into refurbishing consoles and dude it fired me up to watch all kinds of repair videos. And because I am a automotive tech for a living I am always working with electrical and electronics and software. I have feel in love with that kind of work and I have been trying to learn EEPROM work for automotive ECUs it’s very difficult to remove chips and having to solder jumper wires because just like all new electronics the are smaller and compact. So I figured I love retro consoles and they aren’t as compact as the new stuff try practicing on a $60 console vs a $1200 ECU

Love this, and I wish I could learn, but I have already broken a few, a PS2 and a 3DS XL. Nearly ruined a Dreamcast not realizing it had a less common fan with a cooling plate, nearly tore the board apart trying to get that off. My biggest issue is just ribbons. They break so easy and not always obvious where they go. Just too scary for me, but I have to learn. There are no professionals in my area that do retro repairs.

Whoah man, great vid! I really appreciated your (candidness?) and obvious enthusiasm in seeing others receive new knowledge. This vid spoke to me in a deeper level more than just console repair, which first lured me in... 👍👍 Edit: And hey, I'm looking to buy a non-working Gameboy Advance to diagnose and repair it to full working order as part of finding a new hobby in console and/or electronics repair. That being my venture, can you tell me what tools I would need for disassembly of an Advance and other consoles that I may need? Like, did you buy a toolkit when you first started out, or did you buy your tools individually? I appreciate it!

I am at the stage where I want to start to reball the ps3 cpu/gpu. I can't afford a huge bga machine. Can you recommend a smaller station to reball that is fairly affordable? A brand name and some possible videos that you learned with? I would really appreciate it. I am a HUGE ps fan. I love fixing, hacking and modding all the consoles. I hope that I can take my expertise to the next level. Also, do you have any advice on how to "marry" different ps3 bluray drives to different units? Do I need to downgrade to 3.55 and enter "service mode" or is there another way? Thanks!! Your videos are awesome. I am an official subscriber. Hope to see more!!

I have a question. We had a bit of a back and forth a while back about installing a modbo 5 in a PS2 and how difficult it is to do. Well, I installed it, cleaned it and got the dust out, and replaced the fuse which had gone bad. As far as I know I installed it correctly and the solder is holding pretty well. The console powers on, disc tray opens and closes with no problems, disc spins and all that, however I'm not getting any audio or video signal from the console. That's also after trying several different power cords and A/V cables. I'm thinking that it may be a botched install. Do you have any tips that may help? I've checked a few forums and haven't found much that's helped out so far. Any help would be appreciated!

NI99ANARUTO take them apart and clean them if your curious, to mod your wii all you will need is an SD card and an online tutorial, it's very easy, just download some files

I get the why I just don't get the how I always found the concept if console self repair fascinating but I do not have a major in electric/computer engineering let alone a clue of how these electronic parts work The most work I've ever done on electronic repairs is changing a fuse of a power outlet or reattaching a disconnected wire inside a heater But console repair? I just don't know where to start understanding these chip functionalities or the pathways of the motherboard or proper soldering How many books do I have to read to fully understand how electricity works?
@RETROGAMINGARTS
@RETROGAMINGARTS 4 года назад
None. Take it step by step. Problem by problem. A great place to start to understand is just by looking inside. Watch some videos, take some apart. My channel is all the books you need I promise. Problem is on my channel the difficulty level is scattered all around. I range from never opening a console before to advanced level soldering. So peruse around a bit, practice on your own systems. (Cleaning systems, then move onto led mods)

It would be cool if there was a class people could pay for just focusing on console repair, soldering for joysticks, etc.

Hey, so yeah I grabbed this faulty Xbox 360-e and am looking to fix up the hdmi as when the hdmi is plugged in the light flashes red but otherwise is green troubleshooting says check with av but the e model only has a HDMI output I have some limited soldering experience and have been snooping around here and on RU-vid on info about fixing and rghing it (Snapped some photos when I was repasting the box if anyone wants to see the guts) imgur.com/a/WkdnLg0#1xfww2z so I was wondering what I would need to do in terms of troubleshooting this baby and getting it rghed whilst I'm in there ideally with a clear replacement shell and DVD drive as my end goal so you can see everything im not sure what parts id need i think its a corona v1 but im not 100% any help would be appreciated :D Thanks a lot oh yeah how is this in terms of business viability I would love to do this as a send-in repairs business or something similar ive go limited mobility but stuff like this even when I was a kid id get into trouble for taking stuff apart to look inside

Hello, I have very poor vision (I am legally blind) and I was wondering if you know of any tips/aid for poor vision.
@RETROGAMINGARTS

Personally, my idea would be to start with systems like super Nintendo. Or sega genesis. Most of the components on those systems are large. So it may be easier to see Or. Start with a bit more simple repairs/mods such as game boy advanced. But before you start, I would open up a bunch of game systems. And inspect the motherboards and take note of what systems you are able to see and what systems are too small. So you have a baseline of what is feasible and what isn't. Take your time, learn the systems, i know a sega genesis and a ps2 so well, i guarantee I could mod either of those systems blindfolded, just by feel. So if I can do that, I have 100% faith in you that you can too. Just take the time to learn all you can about the systems before hand. That knowledge will help you beyond belief. Thank you for watching me too by the way.
