5:25 For my bachelor thesis I had to set up ROS Melodic / Gazebo 9 environment and port some ROS packages written for ROS 2 to work in that environment, it was literal hell for me.
If you can actually get it install you have accomplished something. Ive spent three days trying without success. In my 20+ years of developing software on windows this is the single most screwed up thing Ive ever tried installing. Steps in the web resources are just flat out broken. And this video is about useless. No mention of how you got Avis running where to get it. You spend more time talking up MS than showing anything useful.
@@bobbysamuels1308 Yes. And Im saying that as someone that absolutely hates using Linux. But the ubuntu install is easy and works which cant be said for the basterdized approach MS has taken with its 1/2 baked approach.
Microsoft will seriously consider soon enough the importance of including and giving platform to the ROS. It already had base framework ready. But indeed, it should be soon started and had been done so every programmer or engineer doesn't have to install Linux system alongside their Windows. It's seriously annoying that this would still be a problem.
I also found the windows install instructions did not work. Was trying earlier today; now I am seeking other resources, but may explore Ubuntu instead.
I'm just looking at ROS from a distance...eventually I want to use Descartes to generate a joint position file , for an end effector that moves along a straight line (blending/welding). I am a windows user, but ROS looks complicated enough that it seems like I may be better off running it from a Linux machine....I also don't want to run into later "gotchas" with items that might not be ported to windows yet.....Are my thoughts valid?
Your thoughts are totally valid. 1. No one in the ROS community cares enough to even update the windows install instructions (as of my last attempt they didn't work) 2. All the reference material you find from tutorials to forum help will revolve around the Linux. 3. Microsoft seems to be using this as another platform to try and push developers into Azure.
@@amalbackerfysal9292 Yes, and I've also heard of Macs extremely low spec/price ratio and their cult-like way of retaining their users. Lenovo + Linux = Joy :)
