Thanks! I had to do this for a project in one of my classes, and I only got to see the last 2 videos, so I was extremely confused. Watching the first 2 now, I feel a lot better about this.
hello all, i have been using sketchup for over a year now and find it very useful indeed, however its time to let the tutorials teach me more. yours seems calm and straightforward and easy to follow
aunque me toca traducir cada pantalla , me encanta como lo explican , gracias, soy estudiante y he sufrido mucho por no saber manejar el programa, y ningun curso lo explica tan bien, gracias
I'm following along with this video with a SketchUp drawing. Everything has been fine up to the FollowMe tool. It won't work as demonstrated in this video at the base of the door casing. Other surfaces, yes, but not at the door. However, it is causing some other bizarre things to happen like walls disappearing and exposing the interior of the house. This is where having a teacher and/or classmates at hand would be invaluable. For the time being, I'm going in circles ... and may have to start over from scratch.
FYI, I actually just figured it out by accident, but the demo sort of shows it anyway. Orbit the house so you're looking under it and drag the FollowMe tool around the bottom edge of the house. It will snap to perimeter of the house like shown in the next part of the demo 6:40
@@jayb7168 I had the same issue, just posted about it. Saw your post and tried that. The first time I tried to extrude using the under-view I had the same problems, but after several tries it worked. . . .Why would one have to use a particular perspective in order for the tool to work? That seems odd.
little additional info as some might find it confusing, on several occasion the SketchUp version used in these tutorial video's is not 100% accurate to the latest version... For example: the first step [A] VIEW / TOOL PALETTES / ... Now it's: [B] VIEW / TOOLBARS / (select) LARGE TOOLSET Can i suggest adding CAPTIONS it saves you from redoing the whole video ;) to elaborate: when the old video shows directions towards [A] add captions for [B] since I just started SketchUp i'm going through all the basic video's... and these tiny differences caused my brain to created a small hiccup :D [i'm an experience IT guy, but others might get lost] PS: thanks for making this awesome program, loving it already... gonna try using it to make upgrade parts for garden railroad trains!
Another error I've found is offsetting the door. Despite selecting the correct sides for offsetting the door, the program thinks it's offsetting the whole thing. I'll post a solution if I find one.
For the most part this video is very helpful.... however, I really had difficulty recreating the follow me tool portion. I selected all the edges of my "house" but when I tried to use the follow me tool I couldn't recreate what was in the video. I just be doing somnething wrong
The "follow me" tool on my version of Sketchup Web isn't working properly. When I try to extrude the trim around the edge of the house, there's no extrusion, only random red lines, and when I click to finish usually some random part of my model disappears.
great video but i am using the trial version of sketchup and i wasn't able to type the measurements 10x20 in the dimensions box. that's the only issue i had, but thank you. i like this program. so far so good! now on to the next tutorial.
You really need to say that the program will NOT allow you to click on the measurement box and THEN type into it, which is the norm and how every other application of any kind I have ever used behaves.Tried typing after clicking once with the rectangle tool, after clicking twice, rectangle selected, not selected, with several different types of other tools selected in case that was the problem... nothing. I had to find the answer elsewhere. You just type the number after starting the box and then press enter. This should be said, because people are going to assume that Sketchup will work like EVERY other piece of software I have ever used in my entire life and that you need to click on the box/in the space/etc etc etc before typing. I'm sure nobody is reading the comments by now, but really.... this should be in the video.
Not being familiar with other programs, I thought it clear that you just start typing the dimensions without having to click on the displayed dimensions. I was wondering if it did need to be clicked, but just watching the example it shows that it wasn't necessary. Good to know that you can't click on the dimension box though, as I might have thought you could, but just being unnecessary.
A good program does not explain how to draw a cube 10 meters by 12 meters by 5 meters for 9 minutes. The next lesson is how to find out the size of two different cubes you have drawn in the previous lesson? Minutes 6?
Kinda lost on the follow me tool they didn't explain it very well in this video watch this one I found. Skip the advertisement crap start watching at 1:04 minutes ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WA-WSV8954c.html
Be careful with Sketchup. Used to be good stuff when google had control. But now you can waste a lot of time and energy if you by the free version. No more 32bit. Why? Pushing to 64 bit and only 64 bit and 32 bit is 30 day trail. They are pushing everyone to purchase. Bad move.
