You are a wonderful teacher: so clear and well spoken. Your videos are so interesting and inspiring. I live in New Zealand where a lot of Alpacas are bred. They are so gorgeous 🥰 I’m glad to see that it’s so easy to knit with alpaca yarn on the circular machine as we tend to use quite a bit of alpaca/merino blend, which is so soft and warm and more affordable than straight alpaca. Thank you for your wonderful tutorial. I have the third instalment queued already ❣️🌹

I know this is an old video, I have just stumbled on it, thank you for sharing, you made the instructions very clear. I can't afford an addi yet, so I got one of the cheaper ones it's called a sentro, I will apply what I've learnt from you as it should pretty much works the same way. Cheers!

Thank you so much!! I have many cones of yarn for my weaving loom and hadn't thought of using them for my Addi!! The tip about the way you make one of the colours stand out is something I knew but had forgotten so thanks for that! I shan't be making hats unless my granddaughters want me to but this machine will be a way of my using up the enormous amount of yarn lying around! That also applies to my weaving loom as well! I never seem to use it all up though as I keep spinning more!! Off to watch your next video. Thanks again 😀

Great tutorials. My question is, how is it that the pattern on the first part of the hat, using the black & white yarn, is so variable? I would expect there to be an even blend of the two colors. It looks great, but I don’t see how that plays out. Thanks.
@maryjaffe5470

When you have 2 yarns different colors, where do you get the yarn that you want to be showing on the outside? Closest to the hook or 2nd in the hook? Thanks for letting me know. Mary Jaffe

Hello Mary! Good question! I actually have the two strands in my hand and when I want to change, I switch them in my hands which then switches the way they go through the shuttle. Does that make sense?

Nikki, I did subscribe your little channel. The dogs are so sweet. I hope you make some more videos. I have been given a Addi Knitting Loom Kingsize by a friend, but I have still problems. Although I turn the crank slowly, I lose stitches, that is, I discover this when I have already knitted several rounds. Run stitches are formed. However, the device seems to be perfectly fine. Do you have any tips for me? Love from South-Germany 🌹 P.S.: Where do you live?

Hello Rose, thank you for you feedback! I very much appreciate it. We live in the southeastern area of Washington State in the United States in a town named Kennewick. I see you are in South Germany! I am sorry to hear you are still having problems. We have found that most issues with the machine relate to the yarn, some yarns just do not do well in the Addi. I would suggest trying several different types. Good luck and wishing you better luck!

@@nikkigriffith9703 Thank you, dear Nikki ❤, for your answer! I live in Bavaria in a place on the Danube. Yes, I have noticed, very thin yarn is unsuitable and immediately pulls run stitches. But I also think I need to get familiar with the machine first. Yesterday I tried again with another yarn and it went better already. Anyway, I do not give up! It's so much fun! I'm going to knit my whole neighborhood! Lots of love! Rosl 🌹

Hi Nikki, great video! would like to ask if you have the same issue, that when it reaches to the black needles, it becomes more difficult to crank and the machine cracks loudly when you pass by the black needle and the row counter increases. I think this might be only the issue for the machine with mechanical row counter?
@garychamberlin1117
@garychamberlin1117 2 года назад
Hello Tirelli! Thanks for your feedback! The machine should crank smoothly no matter where it is in the process, is it just the piece you are presently doing, or has it been doing it for a while? Are you new to the machine or have you had it for a while? Cheers!

@@garychamberlin1117 Thanks for so quick reply! I just received it today :). I find some videos online, some machines are with electronic row counter and some are with mechanic one. In some reviews, it is said it is normal to have this crank noise when it comes to the back needles due to the mechanic row counter. I checked the offical website and now the product is only with mechanic row counter. So I guess they have changed to this model to save battery. When did you buy this machine?
@MsFitz134
@MsFitz134 Год назад
Mine has the mechanical row counter and does make a louder click and is a bit harder to turn as the first black needle hits the counter.

I have a question for you, Nikki, and I’m hoping if I post it here you’ll see it: I bought a new Addi, and it seems like it has a lot of play in the crank handle. Is that normal? If I had known I could have bought it from an authorized dealer, I would have done that. When I contacted the seller, they suggest I tear the machine apart to see if a screw is loose. I’ve made only a few hats, and that seems kind of crazy to me. The machine seems to work fine, but the slight wobble worries me a little, and I’m wondering if I should send it back and try again.
@garychamberlin1117
@garychamberlin1117 2 года назад
It's hard to know without seeing it, what is a "lot of play". Mine has some play, I would never have recommended to have it torn apart by the buyer; it has a one year warranty and if you are within that timeframe I would contact the seller to make plans for an exchange for a new one!
@cynthiasymons
@cynthiasymons 2 года назад
@@garychamberlin1117 Thanks. It is working fine, but when I wind the crank, it is does not wind flat against the side of the machine (as it was likely designed to). What concerns me, though, is that at first I did not notice any wobbling, and it seems as though as I use it more, it is “wobbling” more and more. I had read online that people had trouble getting Addi to enforce the warranty if they had not purchased it from an authorized dealer. So I’m trying to figure out if I have a machine that is defective-and if I should return it before the return window closes and try again. When I watch videos online, it seems like a little wobbling is not unusual…so maybe it’s nothing to worry about.

Where can I purchase your yarns? If you sell them, can you provide a link under the video?
@TheGraciousPantry

I keep getting a very loose weave. And if I increase tension, the machine sputters and sometimes breaks the thread. What am I doing wrong?
@nikkigriffith9703
@nikkigriffith9703 3 года назад
You are not doing anything wrong. I find that the looseness of the weave depends on the yarn, the type, thickness, etc. I use alpaca yarn, both huacaya and suri, and they both behave very differently in the machine. I typically do not hold any tension other than what comes from being in the yarn holder. I would try different types of yarn and see if that makes a difference.

I am sorry to hear yours is loud; did you purchase it new? If yes, you might be able to return it to the distributor for a replacement. If you purchased it used or on Ebay or similar, it is likely not returnable. There are multiple groups on Facebook; are you on FB? If yes, my favorite group is "Addi King Loomers & Knits" Perhaps scroll through some of the older posts and see if anyone else has had the problem, or make a post yourself. Good luck!

The machine she is working with is the Addi King knitting machine, which is the largest knitting machine made by Addi, and can be purchased from many online retailers, including Amazon; just search online to compare prices, warranties, etc. Addi makes a few different sized knitting machines, so make sure you purchase the Addi King, which has 46 needles, if you plan on making hats. This specific machine retails for between $200-$250. It is made with quality materials, comes with a warranty (depending on where you purchase it), comes with grips to attach it to a table and hold it steady, has replacement parts available, has several accessories available, (stoppers, weights, auto-cranking handle attachment, etc.), and operates smoothly; it's worth the investment if you plan on using it regularly. That being said, you can purchase cheaper knitting machines for a fraction of the price, that will get the job done. Sentro sells a large knitting machine for approximately $40-$50. It is actually larger than the Addi King; it has 48 needles and can make larger hats and panels. However, it's made of cheaper materials, only has suction cups on the legs to hold it steady, and doesn't run as smoothly. It also doesn't come with any warranty or have replacement parts available. (I own both Sentro and Addi.) There are lots of machines available online and on Amazon, both branded and generic, just make sure you purchase one that has at least 46 needles to make an adult sized hat.
