Learn how to bend tubing with the JD Squared Model 3 Tube Bender and how to fish mouth tubing with the JD2 Notchmaster. This is a general overview of getting started. Typically a tube bender is bolted to the floor but since I need to make mine mobile I'm using the Swag Off Road ram mount to adapt an air/hydraulic ram to my tube bender. This allows me to use an air compressor to effortlessly bend tube to any degree. After bending I show how to fish mouth and tube notch the tube for a proper fit and strong weld. All of the tools and material sources are listed below.
If you want to learn tube bending from a master I suggest the following videos from ‪@TheFabricatorSeries‬

Tube Bending Basics 3: • TFS: Tube Bending Basi...
Here's a great video by ‪@bleepinjeep‬ on installing the Swag Off Road Ram Mount: • Swag Offroad Air/Hydra...
And another video I suggest watching by ‪@WingsWorldChannel‬ for prepping your tube for welding: • FAB 101: How to PROPER...

Three things... I should have referred to the hydraulic ram as an AIR hydraulic ram. yes, I'm aware you can have removable bolts in the concrete to fasten and remove the bender. Yes, some people prefer to notch with an angle grinder. Thanks and stay healthy and safe!
@slackreviews
@slackreviews 3 года назад
@@harrisonofthenorth The ram is hydraulic, and is pumped using air. Think of a jack, instead of pumping the handle up and down that action is done with air.
@slackreviews
@slackreviews 3 года назад
@@harrisonofthenorth did you read my first reply it explains it? It is a hydraulic piston. It is not a pneumatic piston. Typically hydraulics use an electric pump to pump the hydraulic fluid. This uses air to run the pump. There are also manual pumps, like a jack for instance. I hope this makes sense.
@slackreviews
@slackreviews 3 года назад
@@harrisonofthenorth hey guy I’m sorry you can’t understand. You seem to lack a basic knowledge of anything mechanical. Nothing I said was conflicting. I’m not in a corner you are in a corner where you can’t seem to see that this hydraulic cylinder uses air to drive the pump. Something powers the pump in any hydraulic system. Do you at least understand that? The air and hydraulic fluid do not mix, the air powers the pump. It could be operated by hand like the lever in a jack or an electric motor or in this case air turns the pump that pumps the hydraulic fluid. If you don’t understand that I don’t know what to tell you. I’m done wasting my time trying to explain. Google it! They sell these air/hydraulic pistons. If you spent just 10% of the time spent trying to argue with me on increasing your reading comprehension we wouldn’t still be talking about this.

I didn’t scroll through all the comments so forgive me if someone recommended it already, back in my exhaust making days we had a 360 degree dial that clamped into the end of the pipe. Zero it for the first bend and then when you turn the pipe for compound bends you know exactly where you are in relation to zero degrees.

I didn’t know if I was going to enjoy this video, because I really haven’t had the time to practice my welding. But I will say that I really had a great time watching it! The excitement you show for your newest (and expensive) hobby in as infectious as Covid-19!! Just to keep you in the loop: last Tuesday I was able to take my first steps on my prosthetic without a cane or walker. Two days later, I was able to walk two laps around the gym. Of course, the next day, they closed the rehab hospital for at least the next 30 days. SMDH Gotta thank you for giving me motivation to keep working hard to some day - very soon - to get back out to my shop!!

I made a bender from scratch that mounts the dies vertically as to not take up much space and make the unit mobile. I use a standard HF jack to bend the tubes. It was originally made for late model race cars (lefthander chassis and such). Uses the same dies as what you are using. You should make a bender from scratch!! :)

Is that ram actually hydraulic? Like, is it using air pressure to drive a hydraulic pump when then moves the ram with hydraulic fluid? Or is it all just air pressure doing the work? Because if it's all just air pressure, then it's a pneumatic ram, not hydraulic
