In July 2020 my son bought the dream car he's always wanted, a STI but was able to find a 2016 in very clean condition. His previous car was a Focus ST. He was so happy and proud to have the STI and his friends also owned Subaru's too and were planning to go to The Dragon in November. He was diagnosed was cancer 1 month later and passed in November 2020. I bought his STI from the bank, and I drive it 2 miles each week. It's not my car, it's his and I promised I would take care of it for him. Now that I've driven it I realize why he loved it so much, they truly are amazing but it's sad that Subaru cancelled it. There are so many things they could have done with a new model, 400 Hp would have be a great start. But we'll never see that. RIP Bryan.

The cladding only looks somewhat acceptable on White, Silver, Gray, and Black. I think it looks absolutely hideous on any actual color. Over the last year, none of the plastic "styling" has grown on me at all. The Front end is about the only thing that has grown on me. However, that stops at the giant fake vents that follow the same trend as the Civic Type R.

I’ve got a ‘22 WRX with the 6-speed and I’m blown away how good it is versus the previous gen WRX and STi. It has such an amazing chassis, suspension and ride quality. The new FA24 engine has really good down low torque, and as a daily driver you don’t have to rev it out to drive quickly. One other benefit is the new motor allows 87 octane fuel which is what I run during long highway trips. You lose no economy compared to running 91 if you just cruise and there is no adverse effect to the motor. The tuning Subaru did on this motor ECU is light years ahead of previous generations. It runs and idles very smoothly without any hesitation, rev hang, or surging. Very happy with the car.

My default car in this segment was a GTi, I’ve driven the mk 6 and 7 and was looking for an 8 but limited inventory. There is something old school about the Subaru and to be honest when I first saw the rear end online I didn’t like it but now I think it looks pretty cool. This sports sedan stands out from the crowd. Love it love it love it. The only thing I wanted added was the STi performance mufflers which sound awesome but for some reason, you cant buy it and have it installed at the dealer

I have a ‘17 WRX and I cruised with a ‘22 in traffic for a few miles last week. It definitely looks smaller in person compared to the photos, but it just doesn’t look like a WRX at all. I bet most people assume it’s a new Civic or maybe a Hyundai/Kia when they pass them on the road. Up until this year you could truthfully say that the WRX had motorsports DNA since it still had the original homologation car’s chassis and suspension geometry at its core. You could always see the DNA of the first gen in the body lines and silhouette of each new WRX model, but not on this new one. That makes sense considering this generation is based on the same platform as their crossovers, and if you look at it next to the Outback and Forester you can totally see it in the rear quarter panels. It’s really sad to think that mechanical pedigree is finally completely gone from such an iconic model. It’s literally the exact same thing that happened with the Evo X when Mitsubishi ditched 9 generations of motorsports-derived engine and chassis engineering perfection for a “global platform designed for mundane commuter cars. It took nearly a decade for the aftermarket to get the Evo X anywhere near as capable as the Evo 9. I expect a similar time frame for the VB WRX unfortunately.

I have 2.4K on my 22, I'm on WRX # 4 and this WRX is by far a better car and the added room and comfortable seats for normal sized folks is a bonus. I took it on a road trip around 1.2k and at 75MPH I was getting 28.something mpg which beats the EPA numbers but at that speed I doubt I can get 30mpg. I finally pushed it, and while it pulls harder than the VA generation it's still a quick car in need of more power. If it could hit 7K RPM it would be way better and could better deal with the HP it comes with stock. IMO, 50-100HP more is all I'd want out of it as a daily driver and would turn this into a great car. There are some nit picking things and annoyances for sure (car play/andriod auto glitches, head unit can be a little slow, turning signal lever is annoying) but I'm loving the VB WRX more than any other before it by far.

1) The new FA24DIT is a great engine. It would be a great STI foundation. 2) The transmission is carry-over, so it is still fragile and prone to clutch failure. 3) The interior is great. The exterior is not my favorite. 4) Subaru underdeveloped this generation in favor of a now-abandoned STI platform. It is disheartening to see a nameplate fall after decades of production, over a hallow dream of an unusable vehicle

Congratz on the manual transmission as it can power *UPTO* 50/50 power split getting it closer to a 4WD vs CVT can only power upto 60/40 split (as far as I know). That Silver + Black styling looks really good imo. Please don't modify the suspension, I really hate STi ride comfort. I would vote for the smallest wheel that clears brake calipers and bigger and stickier tire for summer and a nice winter tire during colder days. (I would change at home as there would be soo many days during winter over winter tires recommended temperature of below 45'F.)

Good review. I have the 22 WRX GT (automatic). That took me quite a lot of leg work to find the car, trim, and color I wanted. JD Power's website was sure helpful with that. I agree with a lot of Daniel's critique. It's a very fun car. The turn signal is perhaps the most annoying thing about the car. I find myself accidently telling it to turn the other direction, when I'm trying to cancel it. Like during lane changes. I disagree about the rear camera. I like that it shows the wide angle camera in the widescreen format. That is super helpful when backing up, out of a parking space. Where you want to be able to see what's coming from far left and far right. If it went full screen, then it would look like your watching something in portrait mode on your phone, and cut the left and right sides off. Doubly so at night, when you have tinted windows.

It could use a facelift as well as have it utilize the whole screen for Android auto. In fact, I wish subaru allowed for screen mirroring built in because the screen to me has a great ratio for that. Other than that, I need to figure out what the vibration noise I keep hearing whenever I go onto "rough" or not-so perfect roads in the city which doesn't affect performance but it does annoy me.

If I had to guess, the vibration is your hood. There are 2 rubber circular pieces the hood sits on, near the front when it’s open you’ll see them, attached to car not hood. You can spin them to adjust them in or out, this will make your hood not move anymore over rough surfaces and hopefully fixes vibration. If not that, maybe a door clip broke off or something and Is bouncing around

@@dlg5485 you must’ve been the type that slammed your WRX and lost all off-road functionality just to look good for your boys. I get it, that’s your thing. Why do you care so much.

This guy could have 2 cars. Instead of just paying a huge amount for 1. I got my neck breaker 8200rpm B16a EK. And my KJ Liberty for offroading and snowstorm hooning. And i still have money left over.

The 2022 wrx is really easy to get for msrp. The cars aren't special in anyway. My dealer keeps hitting me up to trade my paid off 2019 for a 2022 wrx but I don't want a new wrx.

I was at my local dealership to get some warranty work done on my FXT so I was able to get a good look at the WRX on the lot. It's just as hideous in real life as in pictures. The one i saw was in white and the white really accentuates the ugly plastic body cladding. Really hope they ditch the plastic cladding, to me it makes it look really cheap.

Maybe Subaru will do some sort of body cladding delete option on the next year's models

Up to 400hp it’s better power wise. It has a better interior. Better exterior styling with mods. If you looking for serious power past 400 don’t get a Subaru 😂

To say the new WRX is ugly might be too nice. Hideous or grotesque might be more accurate. Does it have the same stepfather as the Honda Civic?

I find the seating position to be one of the biggest issues I have with the car. I feel like I'm sitting on top of the damn thing, almost like a truck or suv. Couple that with the truck like long stick shift lol.. Doesn't really insinuate anything related to "sportyness".

That plastic fender flares is better suited on a Subaru Outback. WRX looks horribly fugly with that plastic fender flares. Well Daniel it's you paying that car note not me. Do what you like.
