In the early 80s . I guess I was about 17 . My dad had that same exact truck. And he would let me take it all the time. I got it stuck in the tobacco Fields here in Massachusetts one time. Let's just say he was not to happy about it. And I was not allowed to drive it for a while after that. Lol. I would love to see you fix that thing up sweet. Awesome truck brother. Thanks for sharing. God bless.
Yeah that certainly the way it goes some days can’t win for trying…. I have a 70 Chevelle station wagon or nomad . Found it in Southern Alberta with dry really good shape .. pulling the seized up 327 out, and putting in a 454 with a. Muncie for speed hoping to have it all done before the fall …I love your channel man really enjoy it…… I don’t know why??. Lol ?…. The S 10 conversion to the truck will be great you will be able to really enjoy driving a lot more… thanks man for putting in all that time making a video love it!👏🏽👏🏽
This video is getting me geared up to get started on my ‘65 C10. Can’t wait to see “Dude” get his overhaul and see the road a lot more often. Awesome video!
You might want to look into a hydro-boost system for your brakes. It’s a brake booster that runs off the power steering pump. They used them in late 70s full size Lincoln / Mercury cars and in GM diesel trucks in the 1980s. I think they had more applications, but those are the ones i know about. The booster is small and might fit next to your clutch master.
Breaks on a bicycle that has break pads use the cover and wire as a throttle cable. You can take the bracket that the cable goes threw and attach it to the carb the put the break cable through the firewall and attach it together
If you go with the S-10 frame under it, they say to get the longer wheel base .. that will give u modern steering geometry, disc brakes, and make a better riding truck altogether.. it's seems like for the money, that's the best route to go.. Well whatever you decide, we'll be there with you chipping in our 2 cents.. Looking forward to your new shop build.. install plenty of lighting so we can see..Well take care my Tennessee friend...
A good set of vise grips with good teeth has always helped me with the springs on drum brakes. Looking good my friend and we could still make things in this country if big companies would use their heads and not their pocket book we could still make every thing here. Keep up the great work and thanks for the video. Well organized.
You are exactly right my fellow friend / brother & American!! We need to be a self sufficient country again by making everything that we purchase to have been made on our soil.
@@busterdozzer yes Sirwe have furnished most of the world with information to shut us down with. I remember the 50's and 60's when all the Japanese crap was just that. So what did American businessmen do kept developing technology to provide to others to send more jobs to other countries. Between politicians and greedy corporations the American people are left in the cold. I saw a cap today I am going to buy it says I deserve reparations from the people that voted for Biden. I feel that wayI am 72 years old now, started paying taxes in 1964and Medicare since its inception in 1966, now they can tax up to 85% of my social security if I make too much. HelI worked for every bit of it and it should never be taxed by a runaway spending government. Take care my friend. I still want a 1950 Chevy to match my birth year. Getting a little too old and week to start one now. Have had 3 strokes over the past 5 years. You have got this oneSir.👍👍👍✌️🙏🏻
@@kenswitzer4133 it was nice to meet you, i will be 42 this month. Thank you for everything that you have done. Unfortunately our president is a joke & our country could be run so much better. Stay young & true @ heart. Keep trying to make the best of every day with what we have to work with nowadays!!
I really love your channel. I do get a lot of laughs with you wittiness and great sense of humor. Would love to see a lot more. Keep it coming Chad. Awesome
Love your vids, Love the truck and the history you have with it. Id freshen up that old motor just cuz of the history. Wish I lived closer Id def help work on it. Thanks for the good vids.
I ran several 327 engines back in the seventies and got the best performance with timing set at 6 degrees before top dead center and the spark plugs gapped at 32 thousands
Install square cut seals then dust boots and use air to blow boot around piston and simply push piston in,This method allows you to seat boots in groove all the way .. U B FUN TO WATCH, KEEP EM COMING
It isnt being perfect that matters in this life. None of us are. But you are interesting and clearly a capable mechanic ; thats enough to keep me interested. Look forward to seeing your shop going up.
I LOVE the plans you have for this ol girl!! Everything you're planning (I know it already one but I haven't watched that video yet LOL.) So Rock ON! You are so cool to watch your skills and work ethic!!
Use the s10 frame and use the s10 box. The frame can be stretched or shorted depending on what frame you now own. Your truck will look stock except it will ride and steer much better
Thats a great ole truck and some good stories too. What I would do keep the front end pull the motor and rebuild add pw/str using vega or something get a gm column from the 70's with tilt , signals and hazard serpentine the front of the engine, you can get all the bkts off a old van with AC you can try larger front discs or ceramic pads may help. engineer a power booster inside the FW Redo the seat bottom. Burlap and foam and ready made cover. JMHO, looks like a great project and plenty of content for us youtube junkies. As far as a s10 frame , Half Assed customs just threw together a 51 Ford PU with a lt1 engine and s10 shortened frame. seemed pretty simple but he has a great shop and no flies on his bottom !
👍👍 That’s going to be one sweet truck when your done fixing her up! I had a 47 Chevy fleatmaster 2 door coupe with a 283 and 4 spd rock crusher. It was fun to drive down the highway, 70 to 80 mph and still had 3/4 pedal. everyone waved. But a truck around that year is a dream waiting to happen. Good luck on the old truck. I’ll be watching!✌️
Just came across your channel and absolutely love the content. I've been at the Chevy and GMC trucks for 40 years and I appreciate what you're doing to Dude 👍☮️🇺🇲
Love "DUDE"! I had a 51 half built "soon as i got it drivable someone with money wanted it".It was all Hot Rod. Now i drive a 56 my dad bought in 58. Its stone stock.
Thank you for the awesome videos Sir, love watching you at work… watching you from Alaska. Praying for you for good health and patience so us your subscribers can keep watching you. And as you say, I gotta go do something- ha ha ha - well after I watch this video.
I think you should go with the 283. Not only are they fantastic little engines, but you would be finishing 2 projects at the same time LOL. Plus I’ve always wanted to see an engine build from someone like you who is an excellent and entertaining presenter. Great video as always.
HowDo? I've seen the video when you got it running for the first time after so many years of sitting, I'm impressed for what you've done to it back then. Kinda a bummer ya had to change the seals, brakes, fuel lines and clean the fuel tank? Allot of small stuff as well, but love the truck.Check the check valve in the carburator,if it has one. Some Holley's have them, some don't in which explains why the carb started spitting back on ya. I hope this information will be a help to ya. I had a 55 Chev 3/4 ton, I got running at the age of 13yrs old back in 1979. It was the earlier 55 before the apache can model.✌️🌟🌟🌟
Your mate O`Reilly must rub his hands together every time he sees you. Nice to see Miss Daisy again, that`s also the name of my 1958 Austin A35! Best wishes from the UK.
The fun part of getting something that sat for a long time going again once things start being used again the parts begin to fail anyway look at the bright side once everything is new you won't have to worry about anything failing on you so it's good to have it happen early so you can get it out of the way and enjoy driving it instead of fixing it all the time.
Fix up in steps and keep up excellent shape too that truck is sweet vehicle too! Also check up for no abs brake booster setup for 2002 Chevrolet Impala E-X (LS) 2 or 4 door setup on 4 wheel disk or drums brakes on back only and maybe worth it try plus Power Brakes from intake too!
Love the old truck, never seen a chevy truck like that before. looking forward to it being fixed up - definitely needs a new seat, those springs must tickle.
Drum brake shoes are like grade school photos. Tall one on the rear short ones in the front . You may want to revisit your install . I like your manorisom and content. Good show.
You could move the clutch assembly left then bend and extend the pedal to suit which would give you room for power brakes, or you could use a cable to slave cylinder setup which would also give you the room you need
With the fuel in the tank standing over the outlet, I would bet your fuel clogging issue is that 90* fitting. Get a straight hose barb and let the rubber line make a smooth bend instead👍🏻
👍Good stuff! Ol Dude sure was puttin it on ya! Oh well, just seems like he’s stubborn like an old dude would be. Prolly ticked off due to having Ch*na wheel cylinders 🤣🤣(frikkin Ch*na!)
the dude is looking good, nice work. single plane intake, holley 750 with headers is far from stock, chuck the book and go with what you initially stated, it'll run much better. 36-39 total timing is usually a nice place to be:). You could clean, sand with 80 grit and slap some JB weld on that crack for a short term fix while your deciding which way to go.... good luck, thanks for sharing!
Nice work Chad 🙂👍 It was cool to see it move under it's own power. I like the idea of swapping a 4 speed back into it. Take care and happy wrenching 🔧🔩
My 1st cars were 55 n 6 chevs,i kno delimna on oil leak gone undetected,,enjoy th time you have this year, replace chain gears n maybe spicy cam..sounds like this motor your father ran every 327 iv had i trusted an thought theres no better power,,if you can use this till your parts n other motors are rounded up n rebuilt, thanks for showin your project,iv left my small block n miss them for ease of repair n locating parts,,th 440 rb n 727 i hv in76 d100 make parts search last years ...
Oh man this thing is really coming together I hope you just take that 327 out put it on the motor Stand and Show us a good video of rebuilding it I really enjoy your videos so please keep making the good content and from the Midlands of South Carolina we will be watching thank you for bringing us along
As I commented in the last vid these years of Chevys are the BEST! They look perfect after wide wheels and Casings are mounted! So I had to look up SPIDERS after seeing those ones ad the closes I can find that are in the American South is this one even though yours looks white on Video : Many types of spiders live around homes and buildings. Most are harmless, and many are beneficial given they prey upon other nuisance insects, like mosquitos or flies. One spider found in Kentucky and much of the Midwest that is potentially dangerous is the brown recluse. It is sometimes referred to as the ‘violin’ or ‘fiddleback’ spider because of the violin-shaped marking on its dorsum. Although brown recluse spider bites are rare, the venom can sometimes cause serious wounds and infestations should be taken seriously. Brown recluse spiders often have a fiddle-shaped marking
About your brakes you have a straight Axel and a after market kit on it. I had the same one got mine on line. Dodge Diplomat rotors and different barings that mate with the spindles. It stops good 😀 no big deal mine still works great.
Dang man, so close well now you can build it better. I've always had bad luck trying to cherry out something I'm driving. Goodluck, you do get points for patience. Central California watching
I would rebuild the 327, it was a motor worth saving. It sounds like you could just put a timing chain in it for now and replace the cover. You should be able to loosen the pan enough to get the timing cover in place, the engine sounds strong.
All around sweet truck. I'm thinkin' that " sneezing " might be due to the slack in Dudes' timing chain...seems to happen after decelerating...I don't know!
Buddy I sure hate to take a USA part off and and put a chuna part on too we had that shit took care of once and you seen what happened you know what I'm talking about be looking for the next video Chad have a great big ol day 👍🇺🇲
