Aw Kori!!!!!! This was heart felt! We all get in this funk! Heck I was in it for London! But a run is just a run, what makes it special is the camaraderie of the community! So glad you’re part of ours!!!!!!!
Brother, this is exactly the message I needed at exactly the right time. Coming back from surgery and feeling sorry about the loss of speed and fitness. God bless and thank you!
After running Chicago on Sunday, I can tell you it is going to be so worthwhile. You won't be thinking about any of the training cycle ups and downs when you toe the starting line and run through those rabid spectators 😊
Glad you didn’t officially quit, Kori! Great video as usual. I can relate on so many levels. I almost quit training for my Nov race because this cycle hasn’t been pretty, but it’s not always supposed to be. That’s why it’s hard. That’s why only 1% of the population does it. Glad you found your why. I found mine, too.
I totally feel you! I’m finally back running… so difficult when things don’t go your way, but like you are doing we all gotta just keep on keeping and things will turn out! Loved this Kori! Love how genuine and real you are in all your videos!
It’s been a minute Kori😊, you got this, I feel like have had bad runs for most of this year, you question yourself why you are doing this but you keep showing up, running has its ups and downs but it’s how you get through the downs is what important, thanks for the inspiration and all the best with training for NYC well what’s left of it!
As always, so well done. Your running wisdom transends running into all aspects of this human life we live. Doing what you need to do so that you can do what you want to do. You nailed it!
Relly great video, thank you!! I just finished the Berlin Marathon 2 weeks ago and had exactly the same thoughts during the training. A few years ago, I could not even run a mile. Now I run a marathon. Not fast, but I did it and running with so many other people from so many different nations, is just the best thing in the world.
I remember the accomplishment the first time I ran for 5 minutes without stopping. It was such an accomplishment. Look at us now!!!!!! Running really can change lives!!! Congrats on the Berlin!!!
You need to get out of my head, Kori!! This was hitting me so hard late July into August. I live an hour from the Gulf of Mexico here in south Texas, and this summer has been a scorcher! I've been getting up very, very early in the morning to run when it's coolest, if you can call 72 to 75 degrees at 95 to 100% humidity cool! It was draining!! 3:30am to 4am wake ups, sleeping on the living room couch on nights before a run because I didn't want to wake up my wife when I got up, and running by myself constantly worrying about am I pushing myself enough to be making progress. I seriously was wanting to cave! So I ended up doing something I HATED, and it got me over my hump. I ran on a treadmill at my gym. My gym is 24hr accessable. I learned to do the conversions of what speeds equalled a certain pace, and went to work. Those workouts got me through September. A little AC goes a long way, but also having a machine keep a steady pace was what I needed to break through some mental barriers that were starting to form about what I am capable of doing. Got to do some Speed sessions for the first time really, and that is something that is going to come in very handy as I get closer to December's race in San Antonio. Lastly, the 5km race my gym does, the Turkey 🦃 Trot, was this past Saturday, October 8th. I ended up running a 23:21, establishing a new PB for myself in the distance. Thank you so much for your channel and your interaction with me! It continues to be a pleasure to watch your videos, and share these great and sometimes very hard experiences. But, like you say, "we sign up for them". Talk again soon bud!
First of all that's a GREAT PB! I think I might actually focus on bringing down my 5k time after the marathon. I can't imagine doing so much training in that much heat and humidity. The good news is that the extra load will only make you that much stronger. Also the next time I complain about my running schedule, I'm going to come back and read this post. A lot of people would just have thrown in the towel but you've shown a heck of a lot of commitment!
Found myself cheeering along with Vivian! Great video and message! Definitely something I needed as I'm feeling fatigued in this part of the training cycle! Way to keep with it!
The hardest part is getting outside and actually running. It feels hard because it is hard. However, depending on mindset, it can be a very fun and invigorating challenge. Every day, I find my motivation for either hitting the pavement or going to the gym to lift weights. To whomever reads this, find your reason for running and stick with it. If you accomplish whatever you needed, find another reason. Keep searching for something and I promise the joy of running will always be there for you. Also, Kori, nice police escort at 1:42 Clearly your RU-vid channel is paying off if you need that many cops to escort you ;)
I learned the hard way that there is always a lesson in those bad runs..I mean define bad run. A bad run to you is a stellar run to someone else. Discipline gets you through the process when the self imposed pressure starts creeping in. At this point for me since I run mostly for me with the exception of chasing that 6 star finisher I often remind myself that the person in the mirror is the only person that is judging my run and we usually come to a middle ground lol. You are doing great and in the words of your precious child gooooooooooo!
Cant wait to get to the starting line together. This one for me has also been particularly hard as well. Not because running isn’t going well but many other reasons! Soon…very soon, the best race on the planet is ours
I love this Kori!! Definitely sharing with the team. I know exactly what you’re feeling. Sadly, i am not running NYC this year but I’ll be cheering! You got this, can’t wait to cheer you on. Look out for DyckmanRun Club at Mile 19! 🤗
Hello Kori, I found your channel yesterday through Kofuzi's channel and I have been binge watching ever since! Thank you for sharing your running journey. This video in particular while it made me emotional lifted me up out of a bit of a running funk of my own. You have inspired me to write a message to my future self as I start training on Monday for a half marathon in March. Thank you again and I look forward with keen interest to following your journey! Cheers from Canada, Scott🤓
Training is always harder than the marathon itself. Don't get frustrated, this is a normal process in training. I always felt slower, more sluggish, and more fatigued when I trained, because in training, you shouldn't go too hard. Also, do you train in daily trainers or race day carbon plated shoes? Because that makes a big difference in performance. I choose to always train in daily trainers and am always thorough with all my training runs. Then on race day you crush it, so don't ever feel like quitting, because motivation alone on race day will make you feel that all that training was worth it.
