oh god this reminds me of my youngest bother when he was a toddler. My family just bought some land to plant cherry trees and while trimming branches, my bro grab a branch and planted it in our front yard and said this is his tree. Did not expect it to grown into a massive cherry tree, which my dad still trims because it produced fruit.

@@Joseph-MullinsLayering is when you induce a plant to root from one of its stems. Take a flexible stem and bend it down to the ground. Scrape the stem where it touches soil and anchor it down with a stone. With luck, roots will emerge from the stem and into the soil. When it is well established you can sever it from the mother plant. Air-layering does the same thing, except you bring the soil to the stem instead of bending the stem down to the soil.

Fun Fact i just learned during a farming course: (If i'm not mistaken, its a willow) These trees are so full of growth hormones, that you can even use a 20-30cm long twig and put it in the ground. It will sprout roots and continues to grow. Other uses are making a "Root growth booster" with water, where tons of willow branches have been soaked in. All the hormones will go into the water and aid the plants which get watered with it.

Also for anyone interested in a great rooting hormone, Willow water is a traditional method to extract the rooting hormone indolebutyric acid from willow (Salix) trees, which is believed to be present in sufficient quantities to stimulate root growth, the same tree he used in the Video.

This tree propagation technique is called marcotting or air-layering. It can be done to numerous of plant species, not just willow. How it works is that you wound the branch/stem of the plant by scraping some of the bark, and then put some slightly damp soil around it so that roots will grow directly into the soil. Once enough roots have grown, you can cut it off then plant it in a container. You can also use different materials as long as it can hold the soil in place. (Also, transparent plastic tied with thin rope would be helpful so that you can see whether the roots have grown.)

It’s called “air layering”.Also the Willow tree produces Salicylic acid .. where the ingredient for “aspirin” and many acne medications comes from. If you take pencil sized new branches and burn them or bake on high in the oven until totally cinders, you can make your own charcoal sticks for artwork sketching. Air layering works especially well on many woody stemmed plants and houseplants if you nick the stem about1/3 in-and do the moss or peat wrap. Give it time to grow roots. DId you know that trees can detect their offspring and siblings near and share nutrients to their family members by releasing them near the roots of their family when they detect that their family members roots are rapidly absorbing nutrients (ie sick or hurt in some way). So if you plant this new tree close to the original, they will look after each other. In an ancient forest a tree in the middle might have a network of routes that let it help a tree at the edge being cut down.
