I used to work for the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry before Cock fighting was stopped and I would test the Game Cocks at the pits in NE Louisiana. Never had a bad test with over several hundreds of Game fowl.

Thanks for the info. 2 questions...why not do the AI test while they were there? And secondly, Do you have to have a permit from the state DEC office just to have the quail? I just found out that it is a requirement in NY state. Keep the vids coming Terry!

How do the birds contract the diseases? For example yours in your garage how would they get these diseases? That’s the only thing I worry about for self consumption. Thanks and love your helpful videos
@CoturnixCorner
@CoturnixCorner 4 года назад
Coturnix are pretty hardy birds, if you keep the cages clean and feed a healthy diet you shouldn't have any issues with diseases. Keep them away from other poultry as quail are susceptible to diseases that are otherwise harmless to other poultry.

Hey Terry great videos by the way but i have a question on how you built the incline cages so the eggs can roll and you can just grab them. If you have time to explain please let me know im trying to start a small quail farm.
@CoturnixCorner
@CoturnixCorner 4 года назад
Hey Edgar, the cages are built the exact same as the ones in the video I did on cage building. The only difference is the size of the floor is 6" deeper and is mounted upside down in the rack with the back side of the floor being 2" higher than the front. Very simple actually!
@edgarcastillo8527
@edgarcastillo8527 4 года назад
Coturnix Corner so instead of making them flush he the cage you build it a couple inches bigger right
@CoturnixCorner
@CoturnixCorner 4 года назад
@@edgarcastillo8527, yes six inches deeper and when you mount them just turn them over and install them with the back side two inches higher than the front. The reason you turn them over is so the eggs are caught inside the 1"X 2" rails when they roll forward. Hope that makes sense.

Was a cost associated with the test and or certification?
@CoturnixCorner
@CoturnixCorner 4 года назад
There was not any cost associated with either the test or certification. I'm not sure about other states, but FL doesn't charge any fees. Which surprised me! Thanks for your question.

Hi Terry, I’m looking for a coturnix quail egg NPIP approved vendor near/ that ships to Chicago, IL. Do you have any suggestions?

Are you planning on getting any needed import permits before you ship. Also most states require AI testing of the originating flock for the importation of hatching eggs also. Here is the statement on it taken directly from NPIP website. "#8 - All poultry, eggs(hatching), chicks, and poults must originate from a U.S. Avian Influenza Clean flock (chickens) or a U.S. H5/H7 Avian Influenza Clean flock (turkeys) and be accompanied by a health certificate." Quail is also included in this. I know you are new to NPIP however just because you are NPIP in Florida doesn't mean you can just ship hatching eggs anywhere. Now the real work begins. Each states import regulations need to be checked and complied with and there are quite a few that require the application for and approval of an import permit. It is quite the process but can be done. You are lucky that you were able to get tested as there is a National Shortage on the Antigen. No one has had it in quite sometime. I also understand that the new antigen is only approved for chickens per the bottle labeling. I hope I am mistaken on that but you may want to make sure. Don't take me the wrong way. Just trying to inform and help.

There are no required "Import permits" for shipping hatching eggs in FL, only an NPIP certificate to ship out of state. I hope this answers your question. Thanks for commenting!

@@CoturnixCorner I believe you miss read that. What I am saying is that in order for you to ship into some other states (not all) you will need an import permit from them as well as being NPIP in your home state. I know that South Dakota, Maryland, Montana, and many others require the shipper to have them and to include them in the comment section of the 9-3 form that is submitted to your states NPIP program to be forwarded to the receiving states NPIP. All of this info is available on this website. www.poultryimprovement.org

@@wandalee2091 Thank you for the information and I will definitely look into this. Like I said in the video, I rarely ship out of state but wanted to get NPIP certified just for my peace of mind and the fact that my local customers can be assured that my birds are clean. Thanks for all the info you posted and I will look further into it.

@@CoturnixCorner your welcome. Unfortunately there is a lot more to being NPIP than just obtaining it for your home state. That's the part that no one is told about and have to find out on their own. Good luck. Also I just subscribed .
