Imagine traveling back in time to witness the aftermath of the Battle of Gettysburg, or Lincoln's famous Gettysburg Address. Photographers like Alexander Gardner, Mathew Brady, Charles & Isaac Tyson, and William H. Tipton were there to capture these iconic moments.
Now, using state-of-the-art technology, we can view these images in color - bringing ourselves closer to history than ever before.
Join the Adams County Historical Society (Gettysburg, PA) and MyHeritage for a special program highlighting some of the most striking colorizations of famous Gettysburg photographs.
We'll be joined by the leading authorities on Gettysburg photography - Garry Adelman, Sue Boardman, and Tim Smith.

My grandfather took my father to the 75 ann. reunion in 1938. My dad always remembered listening to the old vets discussing various actions. They used their canes to scratch in the dirt to show the battle movements. And, then discussed what they should have done differently!

My wife and I have wanted to visit Gettysburg for years. We were both civil war re-enactors back in the '90s. I was with the Second Vermont Volunteer Reg't. of Infantry, while she served in the U. S. Sanitary Commision. It was fun going to schools to give in-character presentations to the classes when they studied their Civil War unit. Walking on to the campus in uniform, my wife in her camp dress, and me having all my traps, and with my rifle musket over my shoulder was never an issue. (Obviously we had permission.) We were always well received. We would even bring some Civil War music.

@@sudsysutherland359 I don't know for sure but, I think what he's talking about is that, they used to carry their blanket rolls on their backs. So being that it would have been rolled it could have just been one bullet that went through eight thicknesses of the blanket? Like I said I don't know the facts but, I must assume that he wouldn't have been standing there holding a blanket up and getting shot at? That just doesn't sound realistic.

My great great grandfather, Nelson S. Bartholomew was a trooper in the Michigan 5th Volunteer Cavalry regiment, company G under George A. Custer. Was involved in the charges on the East Cavalry Field on July 3rd, that repulsed the flanking action of J.E.B. Stuart's cavalry. He survived the war, living to the age of almost 84, dying in 1914.

I am a believer that it was that engagement that decided the battle. The Union position's strength was also its greatest weakness and Lee's plan was brilliant in this regard. This part of July 3 is almost always overlooked. Stuart's lack of preparedness for an engagement as he advanced, for whatever reason, is just head shakingly shocking to me. Pickett's charge was indeed doomed once Custer sent Stuart in retreat. IMHO your Grandfather played a part in perhaps the most important engagement for the preservation of the Union that day. Since childhood I have felt that black and white photographs of historical events and places distorted the reality of the thing. The world has always been in colour and human beings have, with very few exceptions, been seeing it that way from the beginning. All B&W photos of the Civil War, etc. ought to be colourized as accurately as possible. Bravo to you and your team for this presentation.
@yauwohn
@yauwohn 2 года назад
Probably 90% of photos from that era would have been in color had they had color fast dyes back then. The very first photos were all in color!!! Yes color came before B&W photography!! There are still some color positives in France that were the first photos EVER taken, sadly the dyes didn't hold up too well. Even into the mid to late 20th century, B&W was more popular than color for the very same reason. A lot of mine from the 60's are fading, but thanks to photo editing software I'm bringing them back to life.

Randy, sorry for your loss. My mother’s grandfather was with Picket, on the first day. He was hit in the leg in the battle. He was able to crawl under the porch of a house in the battle field where was captured by the yankee troops, bandaged, and was exchanged for confederates later. He went on to fight in every battle after that till the end. Funny thing, he lived only just down the road from Appomattox in Bedford County Virginia. My mother as a child asked to see the hole in his leg where he was hit.

@@amywaltermyer4242 Yes we know. They were also the 5 states with the smallest slaveholding population. Lincoln was trying to save the union the SOUTH was breaking up over the issue of slavery. They made this abundantly clear in the secession declarations as well as in the secession debates. "Utter subjugation awaits us in the Union, if we should consent longer to remain in it. It is not a matter of choice, but of necessity. We must either submit to degradation, and to the loss of property worth four billions of money, or we must secede from the Union framed by our fathers, to secure this as well as every other species of property. For far less cause than this, our fathers separated from the Crown of England.' Secession or the loss of their slaves.

This is the complete 1st body cam video @ ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WG9uQOo--sk.html Please read the 5 fact sheets that i PINNED to the Comments section in the above link. You will see all the factual information about any charges and what reality is. I was very pissed off because, of the 40 previous years that they have wronged me, and caused me untold losses of money, women, freedom, self-esteem cars, etc.. There are at least 116 times that he committed excessive force before he used Police Brutality by physically grabbing me? Google Excessive force, every time that he threatened, coerced, and tried to intimidate me, to give him my Identification information, was the illegal act of excessive force. Most people believe that they must touch you for excessive force, so did i until this happened and i did some more research. This was fascinating. The details that could be seen in color photos that I've seen only in black and white before.

John L Burns also fought in the War of 1812 and the Mexican-American War along with his service in the Civil War. His gun was an antique flintlock musket. Check out his wiki page, the old man was nothing but fight.

🚨🚨🚨🚓🚨🚨 CAN YOU ALL 🙏 PLEASE READ & ACT! EXCESSIVE BAIL during covid-19 lockdown 6-27-2020. Domestic Terrorist Chief Richard L. Hileman II committed 116 counts of VERBAL EXCESSIVE FORCE" before he committed 4 counts of "POLICE BRUTALITY". I had no legal obligation to produce my Identification at any time during this complete interaction. My actions were protected by the 4th, 5th, and 9th Amendments. He was violating all of them from the first second he stopped my RIGHT TO MOVEMENT or TRAVEL. WHO CAN HELP ME TO HELP AMERICA? EVERYONE PLEASE come visit my channel and promote my channel showing Police Brutality upon me, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WG9uQOo--sk.html I need these videos to go viral so, please help me to help all of us by supporting and promoting my channel to expose these "DOMESTIC TERRORISTS" that are working for us. "We the People" expect the government agents that we support with our taxes to be honest, trustworthy, and to obey the laws of the Constitution. After all that is their only real job to do. Hold the piece between the People, not to steal from the People by lying, cheating and creating a dispute when there were no victims involved. ru-vid.com is my channel "Lucky Charm" and my GOFUNDME is www.gofundme.com/f/ron-needs-life-protecting-personal-body-camera. Not taking anything anyway from anyone else in the panel but Garry is so entertaining and informative, he really does such a wonderful service to those of us who can't travel to Gettysburg as he so thoroughly and methodically breaks everything down into such simple, understandable and human terms. Thanks for all of your hard work Garry.

It would be interesting to see a psychic or a psychiatrist to regress you and see if there is any family kharma involved. Those circumstances are too unusual to be random.
