I'm chomping at the bit to get my hands on this game! It's tied up in some kinda bulk shipping from Worthington and the Virginia post office, blah! So I just have to wait and be patient. Oh I can't wait! 😎 I really like the way you do your vids, and I work second shift, so I'm seeing this after work. Perfect timing!🍻

@@oriole21bird I'm a big fan of Hermann Luttmann's Blind Swords/Black Swan/Shattered Union series and am following all those. AMFS is super. I'm really liking this series as well! I've got enough Gettysburg games now to be considered a Jr. Gilbert Collins clone! Grant at Worthington put out a post that the way the Virginia post office handles the bulk shipping from Worthington currently is resulting in delays. No real worries, patience is watch word. Paul's terrific vids will tide things over! 🍻

Thankya Aquadoc! This is a great series that Worthington has going. Franklin will be out soon - that’s a battle I’ve never played before. I hope they get to Chickamauga soon, as that and 2nd Manassas are the two I’d most like to see. - Paul

Awesome game play video! It was very helpful and enjoyable to watch. One rules issue I noticed was that leaders only give units a +1 modifier while in Melee mode fighting, not in normal offensive and defensive firing. Artillery also fire at half strength SP's when firing at infantry and dismounted cavalry in line formation but I'm not 100% if you did that or not. I really like what you decided to do regarding the Union arrival time issue on July 1st. Simply ignoring the uphill cost while in column along a pike is smart as it will allow the Union to get darn close to their historical positions. I was thinking about allowing the 1st and 11th Corps to enter an hour earlier than listed, but I like your solution more. Would you also ignore the uphill cost for roads on the map in addition to the pikes? Thanks!

Hi Aqua! I’ve done my share at the regimental level as well. Favorite was when I walked into a three-day convention and found a Terrible Swift Sword team event that I signed up for. Next thing I know I am George Meade and in a tough fight for the next 3 days - very memorable. By the way, AMFSs successor will be up on kickstarter soon, tomorrow I think. “Rock of Chickamauga”. As a Swede who watched the North And South tv-show as a kid back in the 80s i become a Civil War nerd. I have played a lot of Civil War games on PC over the years, but never a board game (i own the black powder epic scale civil war game from warlord games). I would love for a full playthrough of a scenario or all of them. This is a kind of game i would find hard to get friends to play, and solo is hard unless there is a build in solo mode/AI if i am to play solo myself. Great video! =)

Hello Briss; I remember the N & S series and I am part Swedish as well! Couple suggestions for you. First, if you have never tried using Vassal, you might give it a try. I have played games with friends across the country, and it works fine once you get to know it. Second, DVG is close to releasing “Field Commander Lee”, which is a purpose-designed solo game. I’m guessing that it will be done similarly to “Field Commander Napoleon”, so you might look up some RU-vid vids on that to see if it looks appealing to you. Have fun! - Paul

@@theoakenknight1748 Hi and thank you for your reply. I have tried Vassal and a some other tabletop simulator before, but i don't enjoy them, i find their UI to cumbersome. But its been a while so it might be worth another try. Never heard of field commander series before, but now i will have to take a look at it. N & S never painted a very "romatic" picture of the whole war and the road to war, but i still enjoy it for what it is. My favorite is Gettysburg, i still watch that once a year or so. Anyway nice to find a fellow "Swede", i am danish on my fathers side (Brian is a very common Danish name) and Swedish on my mother side, born and raised in Sweden.

Hello Mr Just! In my plays through, I found that the lead division of the federal I Corps could not make it to McPhersons Ridge until their 11 am move on July 1st. When I do Not apply the extra 1 point for going uphill on a pike, they get there at 10 - which is correct. Remember that the Union goes second in the turn, so the rebs would also get their full 11 am turn before the federal infantry would show up - just too long for Buford to be alone. Note the there is a similar issue with the XI Corps - count out the hexes and you will see that Barlow can’t get to Barlows Knoll on time when the elevation penalty is used on road movement. Simply ignoring that rule pretty much fixes the issue. It’s a fun game; enjoy! - Paul

@@theoakenknight1748 - That's an easy one to miss. But the rule makes sense -- artillery is more powerful in counter battery fire against other artillery at range. And against infantry and dismounted cavalry it is less effective at range but deadly close in (e.g. canister fire). Great replay! Keep 'em coming!

Also at 5:26.. should there be defensive fire by the artillery. I thought you needed to be adjacent and defensive fire was used after the other side declared offensive fire... will need to recheck the rules on that myself... again.. love the video

Good Day Sir. Where does one get those plastic pieces you are placing on the map. Since seeing those some time back on your postings, I would like to get some of those. I have not found then anywhere, so, can I assume you made them out of possibly 2 different pieces of plastic.
@theoakenknight1748
@theoakenknight1748 2 месяца назад
Hi Richard! The flame pieces are available on Amazon be a company named LITKO. Just search for “LITKO flame markers” or some such and you should find them - $9.99 per pack. They are 2 piece that go together easily; I used a small (emphasis on small) drop of super glue on the underside to secure them, but that may be optional depending on how snug the fit is. Take care, Richard, and thanks for watching. - Paul

@@theoakenknight1748 Haha ! I'm proud of you for ignoring a basic game rule you didn't agree with. Harry and I also ignored a rule in Russia Beseiged we found extremely tedious that we found made the game unplayable. There was a German sudden death rule where they had to hold 17 major cities forcing the Germans to turn south in Russia. We would never do such a thing years ago!
@oriole21bird

Would you also ignore the uphill cost for roads on the map in addition to the pikes? Law's Brigade of Hoods division enters on July 2nd at noon, and by playing with the rules as written, I don't see how they can even get into position to attack the Little Round Top area until like 7 or 8pm. I think negating the uphill cost for roads in addition to pikes may be necessary, but I'm not sure.
@theoakenknight1748
@theoakenknight1748 3 месяца назад
Hi Oriole! The main place that the rule makes sense is horsing the artillery up the reverse of the round tops. But I’d ditch the whole thing and not feel bad about it. Even without it, Barlow can’t quite make it to Barlow’s Knoll. He gets close - if you ditch the rule - so the game works okay. By the way, Laws noon entry is correct, and was Longstreets reason for not beginning his flank march until he arrived. Take care…. - Paul

I noticed the rules turned the Federal Cavalry into little more than a speed bump. Perhaps that is more historical than many games which turn Gamble's Sharps Carbines into a "Walking Napoleon". My suggestion would be to reduce the effective strength by some set amount not a negative 2 to the die roll which is a pretty severe limitation. Admittedly at this scale, just one unit so just nitpicking. Also think your road rule is necessary.

This game looks like a Confederate steam roller. Confederate combat weight, limited to zero moral issues (game mechanics) reforming a panicked unit that falls back and in a 1 hour turn reforms-marches further forward than before-shoots-melee? No penalties? 100% BS! I have a feeling the terrain effects on Pikes should stay. I think it actually benefits the Confederate forces more! They see the Union troops coming from everywhere there is no fog of war. Unless the Union rolls 9s and 10s and the Confederates 2-3s in combat it is game over! I question the artillery ratings. And Davis's Brigade is not Green rated? Leader incompetence should have some calculation! I did love the video! Great job my issue is the game mechanics.
@theoakenknight1748
@theoakenknight1748 10 дней назад
Gosh John…, don’t hold back…, say what you really mean! 🤬🤢🤮. The game is fairly low in complexity, so you do give up some detail along the way. It traces its lineage all way back to circa 1975 with its great grand daddy “Terrible Swift Sword”, an all-time fave of mine. Dad was “High Tide of the Confederacy”, another good one. The pike rule is just flat wrong, as Union units cannot get to where they did historically. Even the designer is talking about changing it now. Like most G’burg games, the ANV must win by noonish July 2nd or they lose. Without command control constraints, the Confederates best play is to charge Cemetery Hill at dawn July 2nd. But that’s how most Gettysburg games work. Thanks for your comment; most excellent read. - Paul. PS, You are right about Davis; a little nepotism goes a long way.
