Almost right. When she was 6 years old she met a shoeless, homeless orphan when she was travelling with her family in the Middle East. The little girl, who was about Angelina’s age was weighing people on bathroom scales to earn some money. Angelina spoke at length with this girl and was deeply moved by her plight. She took off her shoes and gave them to her. She vowed to always perform in public in bare feet to remind herself of the less fortunate and to raise awareness of children in great need.

Angelina's vocal teacher was God , God instilled this innate ability in her at birth and she recognized it from the beginning and developed it to the master class level you hear here. Angelina is like no one before her.

Angelina has never had a voice lesson in her life to today. She went to a music school but voice lessons were purposely left out of her education. Every music video she does up till about 14 years old she exabits one particular technique she hasn't used before. Angelina learns by doing by putting a technique in a context with some song in a video We who commented through these years became part of that learning process. We tend to use the word prodigy for someone who is really good at displaying their talent but it's a word than means much more than that. A prodigy is a person who displays a talent so far above the norm they create a separate new norm than can be applied only to them. That's what it means to say this child is a child prodigy.

Angelina was 9 years old in this performance - Her nationality is Norwegian but is fluent in English even at this age - This song was not arranged for her - she wrote the vocal arrangement based on listening to the original Screamin' Jay Hawkins version and communicated to the band how she wanted it to be played - in fact, at the beginning of the video you see Angelina writing down some last-minute changes and it is read by the bandleader. You also notice that her own handwritten notes are on the music stand in front of her as she sings. Angelina was not "taught" by a vocal coach or music teacher. From her time in a crib she listened to jazz greats and learn to sing great jazz, as she learned to talk. This performance of, I Put s Spell On You, is her own arrangement, of course working with the band, which prompted the band to nickname Angelina "The Boss".

One long time vocal coach after watching her sing "Feeling Good" on a live show proclaimed her to be a master vocalists at 10 years old who could likely be teaching vocal lessons to adults, this has not been taught but more part of her DNA and her brilliant skills and musical knowledge, even at a very young age. As others have said, Angelina taught herself how to sing - she first sang a song snippet at age 1 1/2 and by age 2 she was scrolling through RU-vid on her mother's iPad and listening to all the jazz greats for inspiration. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was a prodigy as an artist and poet while growing up in Iran. Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. Nice reaction! What some are not saying is that when Angelina got a little older, she did work with vocal coaches in a after school program in her home country of Oslo, Norway. It is still true that she did learn how to sing at a very young age from watching RU-vid videos of Jazz greats, such as Billie Holiday, DInah Washington, Louis Armstrong, and Frank Sinatra. In a Norwegian article, it was reported that the vocal coaches that she worked with discovered she was a deep alto, and that they were not teaching her HOW to sing, but how to protect her voice because they felt they didn't want her to lose the uniqueness of her voice. Even some vocal coach reactors here on RU-vid have suggested that Angelina could possibly be a contralto. Contralto is the lowest vocal range for women. Also, she is the only person in her family that can sing. The only creative/artistic person in her family is her grandma Mery, a famous Iranian painter and poet, who Angelina is very close to. Her fans call her The Barefoot Princess. She always performs with no shoes when she sings. Why? The reason is very special. Natural born talent. But sure, thats not nearly enough. For her, singing is an obession since age 1,5 y. So she had 8 years of daily practice at that point. Very few of what she learned was taught by someone, or even can be taught. And that yearning to become better, its an itch thats never seems to fade for her.

Why does Angelina sing barefooted? Angelina Jordan is known as "The Barefoot Princess" or "The Barefoot Princess of Jazz," amongst many other names. She always performs barefooted, whether in front of a live audience or during a studio performance. The story is that while living in the Middle East, at 6 years old, Angelina came across an orphaned girl, of her own age, sitting in the street, weighing people on a bathroom scale to earn money. Angelina said to herself, "I would like to share her life for one second to know what it is like to sit alone, wet, and damp, and barefoot in a corner of the street." Angelina could see the girl's bare feet were scarred and that it was cold outside, so she offered her own shoes to the girl. Little Angelina says that she really loved her shoes, as they were very nice and she knew she would miss them. But she saw the other little girl’s need for them, which outweighed her own desire to keep them. So she insisted the little girl take them. Angelina called her Princess, even though the girl said she didn't live in a castle, but the ruins of a building next to where she sat. After sharing their hopes and dreams, the little girl said of Angelina's wish to sing for the world, "You will become the one you dream of and when your dreams come true, you have to remember the poor children without shoes; and I will pray for you Angelina.” Later that day, 6 y/o Angelina wrote in her diary, "The world is very strange. Right then and there, I felt as if a door in my heart opened up, and it was filled with lots of lights. It was as if there was, from Earth to Heaven, a staircase. I climbed the stairs. To be able to do something for another human - it was such a big thing…hard to describe really.” From that point on, Angelina takes off her shoes, in honor of ‘Princess’ and all the other less fortunate children of the world, who are orphaned, hungry, or in want of even basic clothing. In 2015, at the age of 9, Angelina wrote a book about the encounter, as everyone continued to ask why she sang barefoot. Her grandmother, Mery Zamani, created the artwork for the book. So at 9, Angelina Jordan became the youngest published author in Norway. Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman. Angelina started singing around 18 months of age, after listening to Whitney Houston on RU-vid. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was a prodigy as an artist and poet while growing up in Iran. Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. Her teachers were smart enough to not attempt to change what she was doing vocally. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage. Why Angelina always performs barefoot At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true. Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East. At age 7, Angelina’s audition on Norway’s Got Talent, was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried. Angelina had turned 8 years old for her next performance on NGT, covering Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition and was not performed in front of an audience. In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang” which was written by Sonny Bono and was first performed by his wife Cher but is best known sung by Nancy Sinatra. The improvement in each performance is incredible even though there were only a couple months between them. In the Finals, Angelina did a cover of George Gershwin’s, “Summertime” and won the contest, capturing 46% of the votes from the ten finalists. When asked what she would like to do with the prize money she won (500,000 kroner or about $80,000), Angelina replied, “I want to give it to the poor children”. Angelina had become a star in her native Norway and her videos on RU-vid went viral. She gave a few concerts during the summer of 2014 while 8 years old. In December 2014, Angelina realized a life-long desire to sing at the Save the Children's Peace Prize Celebration which is part of the Noble Peace Prize celebration. She has said that was the high point of her young career which was already in it’s 6th year. During 2018, Angelina lost her paternal grandfather, her friend Avicii and one of her idols, Aretha Franklin. She did a moving tribute for each. In 2019, Angelina accepted an invitation to compete in the 2nd season of America’s Got Talent (AGT), The Champions. She had, since age 3, wanted to perform for Simon Cowell and she earned his praise with her genius arrangement of “Bohemian Rhapsody”. The surviving members of Queen loved it so much they put a link to it on their Twitter. Angelina was eliminated after covering Elton John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”. Angelina’s family refused to sign any agreement with AGT. 🥰 Yeah taught I guess, self taught too. 🤷‍♂You can't teach that to a kid, not even close. But sure, Waldorf school of music, prestigious music school in Norway from age 5 I think. Teachers of all kinds I'm sure. But the real story is somehow a 3 year old knew she wanted to be a singer when she grows up. 🤷‍♂, 3. And a real passion. She was legit trying to sing while learning to talk at 1.5 years old, it's on video, on youtube, 🤷‍♂️. So it's just kind of all of that, and clearly her passion, she found earlier than I was even conscious, was a real fit too. But certainly any kid that great, would be self taught, no question. You can't teach 30 year Old's some of that. Everything else was just good love, good help. What she got taught was mostly music theory, and protecting her voice while it grows I imagine. This here is her going ham and exploring her passion for 6 years already. At a very important age yet, formative.

The only singing coach they tried was last seen rocking back and forth and drooling in a padded cell. Sometimes we just have to accept the inexplicable and move on.

She is totally self taught and has music lessons but no vocal lessons she is a giant sponge. She watches and listens and watches and listens then gives it a go. She arranges everything herself and if it isn’t played correctly she will politely remind them of how she wants it done
