Accra is choked, I was born in Accra, but I can never live in Accra even if is free rent. My village has fresh air no mosquitoes, you breathe without pollution, and constant traffic madness in Accra is not for me. Those of you in Accra enjoy your city, am going to my village only 50 minutes from Accra.

You are not dealing with the main cause of the problem the main cause is filth , filth with the gutters, even if you will move the capital to somewhere else and filth is not dealth with the same problems will persist

Nigeria made this mistake. Creating more states/regions and moving the capital. This simply funds waste, corruption and redundancy. You will end up with regions that aren't viable, and encourage a culture of "sharing the revenue" of the productive regions amongst the governors. This fuels resentment in the "productive" regions and will lead to calls for secession and instability. Better planning, regulation and enforcement can solve these problems rather than embark on these costly schemes. Thailand is managing fine with Bangkok as the commercial and administrative centre of the country - and the country is wealthier and more developed than Nigeria with a smaller population.

The capital city DOESN'T need to be moved! Focus on developing a proper drainage system to ensure easy flow of water and actually maintain it. Every time I go and see the open sewage, its blocked with garbage and rarely is it ever cleaned. It. Is. Disgusting. This makes the perfect breeding ground for mosquitos that thrive in stagnant water and spreading Malaria that much easier. Improve the waste water management and develop better urban planning, then maybe Ghana wouldn't have so many problems with constant flooding, yeah? Congestion is often the result of inadequate infrastructure and poor urban planning. In Ghana case, Vendors blocking pedestrian pavements forcing people to risk walking on the roads leading to an increase in road accidents which can be solved with an increase in patrol against illegal vendors. Moving the capital cities won't magically fix the problem, you will just eventually end up with the same flooding and congestion you had in the last one. Plus moving the capital city is insanely expensive, Egypt is literally driving itself into bankruptcy building itself a new shiny capital and Ghana certainly doesn't have the funds for such an endeavour. Minus the NPP's terrible policies such as the E-Levy and misplaced priorities concerning the National Cathedral, this is how you can tell the current government you have is complete trash. It honestly makes me *NOT* want to invest in such a country. Stop giving your mates, extended family, and fellow tribesmen positions of power who know nothing about governing and managing a country, it just reeks of nothing but corruption.

No need for movement of Capital from Accra. Look at what happened in Nigeria....Lagos is still congested after the capital was relocated to Abuja. To stem the Rural- Urban migration, let policy makers shift the infrastructure and manufacturing industries to specific Cities like Kumasi, Tamale and Takoradi. This is my suggestion. Cheers

The Capital of Ghana should be in the center of the country, definitely in the Bono East Region for so many different reasons.

If there's should be a capital,it should be situated or built around northern part of Bono East, north of Atebubu and southern part of Savannah region closer to Atebubu and the Volta lake.In my earlier submission,I used the old map, but I think this is the best location when using the recent map!More probable in the Savannah region.

After living in Ghana for two years am wondering how its going to be possible to accomplish that? What about the business that invested in the development of Accra? Maybe a better drainage system would be suitable. ❤

I appreciate your submission,i think it's time for the capital to be moved from Accra because it has already served it's purpose just as Cape Coast did in the past.These are the reasons;1.Accra is congested 2.It is not centermost to allow easy access from all the corners of the country.3.The prevalence of seimic activity in the region 4.Presence of perennial flooding.5.Lack of proper planning in most part of the capital.6.Innapropriate settlements in various parts of the capital territory.etc.These are but a few of the problems with Accra.Innapropriate structures also.These can be corrected when a well thought out plan and structures are developed for a new capital in the hinterlands a bit but not too close to the Volta lake around the Bono and Ahafo regions the choisest being closer to the Volta lake,or somewhere south of the Northern region also closer to the lake to allow for availability of drinking water,but not close enough to allow for flooding.It must be understood that Accra was chosen by the colonial masters at a time when little is known about the place,also, the seismic activity like earthquake and earth tremors were not considered prevalent..In an age of skyscrapers, aeroplanes fast moving cars etc, I think it is time to re_think where our capital should be,else,we will wake up one day with all our investment gone in the name of an earthquake or major earth tremor.Do not also forget that tsunamis also takes place and affect places closest to the coast.Note some countries more developed than Ghana have suffered casualties associated with the afformentioned phenomena and we may not be exempted.This is my little take.

The whole country Ghana depends on relatives abroad to survive. From birth till death a Ghanaian is taken care of by a relative abroad. The Government provides nothing for the citizens. Year in year out the citizens keep getting poorer and poorer. There is not end for his misery

Moving is not the answer. The government should start managing the country properly by starting to build proper infrastructures. To quell the issues of flooding, the government has to embark on building artificial lakes and ponds in the flood plain to detain some of the water produced by flooding.

Like you mentioned in the video I think they should move large institutions from Accra to other parts of the country maybe grouping a few in a few cities and just leave executive branch and parliament along with a couple of universities also incentives companies to move the head quarters else where in the country.

The government needs to construct drainage system to contain the flood in the Accra. Also to develop beyond the outskirts of Accra city centre to eas up the congestion. That will make the capital nice and safe. Moving won't solve the problem.

I think the problem is ,every facility or almost all are based in Accra. If someone living in the north doesn’t need to come to Accra to renew passport or to get drivers licenses and many more stuffs that are needed and also manufacturing processes are spread across the country, this issue wouldn’t have been a problem at all. They just need to redesign or configure the infrastructure of the country throughout the nation . England has the same land size as Ghana. London has five million inhabitants but because the facilities are spread over the country, many people of the nation has no need to come to the capital

The chronic flooding in Accra stems from inadequate leadership. Relocating the capital city would not be a solution to this complex issue.

I’m from the Asante Region but I don’t want the capital to be moved to Kumasi because it’s almost crowded too. The capital can be moved to the north, or somewhere in central part of Ghana.

The government need to develop the city's infrastructure and perhaps develop satellite cities on the outer periphery of Accra to ease congestion and overcrowdedness. Proper urban/city planning can solve a of these problems but it takes will power and accountability from Ghanaian government and private sector bodies.

Again, our myopic leaders might take years to bring this development into fruition if it’s really a critical consideration and by that time a lot of lives would’ve been claimed. Can someone tell our leaders that leadership is the anchor of every societal change including the mindset they tell the people to change. Their intentional initiatives will not only change the structures of our country but the people’s mindset. You either change people by nurturing, enforcing laws or motivating or inspiring them to do so. Talk is cheap, we want to see more action. Nothing really happens spontaneously. There must always be a driving force. Do our leaders think if the people can individually manage their own affairs, they would waste their time and energy to put them into power. They are put into power to change and effect that which cannot be done by everybody but given the mandate to decide what’s best for the collective good of the people. Politics is not about winning power, looting and sharing. It’s to a greater extent winning power to decide the fate of the people-a good one.

Relocating the capital is not necessary all we need to do is to offer same opportunities and developments to the other regions

Decentralization is key. Why put all the headquarters in Accra? Why site all the major industries in Accra? Accra with its size and landscape shouldn’t be burdened. Reality is that it would be extremely difficult for these politicians to change the capital because they and they cohorts have built their empires in Accra. They can’t afford to lose stake.

It doesn’t matter where you move the capital if you don’t plan and engineer the infrastructure for rain season and harmattan.

They must move the capital to the Western Region and call the capital “TCC” the TCC shall be the official name for Ghana’s new capital. The Twin City Capital is the capital of Ghana 🇬🇭. The city is endowed with anything that a capital city will need. Almost all resources of Ghana can be found in the Western region and it is also close to the Atlanta ocean it has a harbor, and an air port to be upgraded, the home of second battalion of the infantry. An Air Force base. Also Close the nations first capital (Cape Coast), which is already a tourist destination. Sekondi-Takoradi is the only well planned city in Ghana 🇬🇭. We can take advantage of it. The city has a huge undeveloped lands. A lot of industries are located there. The western region has rivers which could be used for tourism with beautiful coastlines. The region is naturally peaceful. There are endless reasons why Sekondi-Takoradi is fit for Ghana’s new capital.

It’s about money my people. Nigeria was having oil money when they relocated their capital. Just picture the economy in GHANA and the suffering of people. The few tax collected is insufficient for such mighty capital relocating projects. We do not have money basically.

No, infrastructural need to be decentralized, Ghana Lands & Minerals Resources need to do their jobs well. This sector gives permit to landlords to build in drainage areas, hence causing flood and drainage issues in the country

Thanks for sharing. However, the Government should inform citizens the logistical cost to move the capital from Accra. If population is exploding in the capital, it's due to opportunities thus site industries in Other parts of the economy. The infrastructure network of Accra should be revamped especially the drainage. The run off that leads to flood has been happening since the 1970 thus moving the capital isn't the solution. Lastly, the government should engage the Engineers of Ghana to come up with SMART rejuvenation strategies but please Authorities should prioritize uplifting lifestyle of the citizens more than anything, else programs could be concurrently implemented. Please Authorities should weigh all facets well before moving the capital. Great choice and a golden opportunity to develop Ghana and to decongest a growing city like Accra. Good to see Ghana finally following the footsteps of Nigeria who built a new capital to give Lagos a break. Abuja is a testament that a great African capital city can be built from the scratch in a jungle and make it compete with any African capital city.

We should create and pave alternative routes, we should build vertical car parks, we should dualize our roads, create SIDEWALKS, build taller structures to accommodate people/businesses Nima in prime central Accra, the houses there should be demolished and many high rises built to accommodate people/businesses Same treatment for Jamestown. We should convert the korle, odaw lagoons into waterways for transportation, fix our street lights, improve our rail/public transport, do the Marine drive project etc etc
