@@petern1938 I think the best use was when my friend was doing a breakfast eating challenge. Once they brought the food to the table and it looked way bigger than the pictures, I busted out that line. Lol
Such an amazing movie: a touching love story, a hilarious comedy, and a genuinely scary thriller - all in one movie. Utterly brilliant. Great reaction too.
If you really want to see a young Patrick S along with Tom Cruze Ralf Machio Emilio Esteves Rob Lowe Matt Dillion C Thomas Howell plus Leaf Garret in the Outsiders - it a great movie - set in the 1950’s you’ll love it
Whoopi won an Oscar for this movie. The movie producers weren't even considering her for the role, but Patrick insisted she would be perfect and said he won't do the movie without Whoopi. She credits Patrick as a huge part of why she won an Oscar and they remained close friends until he died 💙
Saw it in ´91 in cinema. The audience in the theatre really invested in the characters, there was a lot of sobbing/crying also laughing in the funny moments with whoopy. the 90´s were a great time to go to the movies. Love from germany
True story, my wife and I saw this in the theater when it first came out. At the scene when Willie was taken by the evil spirits, a young teen nearby said 'Wow, makes you never want to do anything bad again.'
Omg as a kid that scared the bjeezus out of me. Like a legit Fear of God type of thing. I remember seriously fretting about doing bad stuff for a year or two.
I saw it in the theater too. You could hear a pin drop for a few seconds after the demons dragged off Willie, followed by a collective intake of breath. The animation doesn't hold up so well now, but at the time this scene provoked a lot of thoughts and introspection.
Every job I've ever had has been focused on protecting other people (well, not counting the coffee shop). I know for a fact I've saved at least three lives. One guy I saved, his wife still sends me Christmas cards. I was doing pest control at the time, when he got himself in the leg with a chainsaw. Good thing I was there, because EMS was 45 minutes out. Tourniquet and an Israeli bandage got the bleeding under control fairly quickly. I have a not so quiet pride that that guy's family gets to keep him around a while because of what I did.
A wonderful but romantic ghost movie is "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir", It has a charm you don't see in movies much anymore. The female lead is a strong, smart, and independent woman when women weren't supposed to be, and the lead is a Sea Captain and 100% old-school masculine and yet rendering. You'll love the ending. It's a romantic classic.
Its pretty hard not to cry at the end of this movie, great story. If Patrick Swayze had recovered from the cancer, I have no don't that his wife would have picked some fantastic movies to star in.
Ghost is one of the very few films that managed to encompass MULTIPLE genres at once successfully: Murder/Mystery, Romance, Comedy, Thriller, Horror, Drama... amazingly done. Basically, it was an action movie for Patrick Swayze, a comedy for Whoopi Goldberg and a love story for Demi Moore. Speaking of Patrick Swayze, "Point Break" (1991) with him and Keanu Reeves is one of the best movies from the early '90s, definitely worth a watch and a reaction.
I'm glad that at least a few people on RU-vid are watching such great classics again. Many people only watch the standard films that everyone knows, but such films are becoming more and more forgotten.
Favorite scenes in this are the scenes with the Subway Ghost. Vincent Schiavelli makes such a strong impression in the movie with only five-ten minutes if that of screentime.
He was such a scene stealer in movies. To say he was unusual looking is an understatement. Very memorable in Cuckoo's Nest w/Nicholson and in Night Shift w/Henry Winkler -- "4K !!" 😄
Yep, I'm a 43 year old dude and I tear up a couple times. This movie has always been great. It had everything: comedy, drama, suspense, horror, thriller, romance. Not many films can weave all those together without falling apart.
When Patrick Swayze passed away in 2009 Demi Moore followed with a quote from the movie, writing: “And in the words of Sam to Molly. 'It's amazing Molly. The love inside, you take it with you. ' I love and will miss you Patrick.” I thought that was awesome of her to say.
Demi’s super short haircut was a fashion breakthrough. She was unknown by me and most people before and had longer hair. She totally rocked this haircut.
@@nsasupporter7557 when it came out, it was a big movie briefly :P it was all over the place that year. Swayze and Snipes in drag... that movie was fun.
The actor that played Willy Lopez was actually a really funny, sweet guy. He was a stand-up comedian for most of his career, popular in the New York & LA comedy circuits. He had memorable roles in Carlito's Way, The Stand, and a couple Jim Jarmusch films. Passed away from HIV complications, if I recall.
He does have a sweet face. It's kina jarring to see him be all black-murderer here, but you know the old Hollywood saying: "Acting is easy. Comedy is hard." If someone can do comedy, they can do anything.
Whoopi has a very special love for Swayze as he said he wouldn’t make the movie if Whoopi wasn’t cast in it after producers and the director were not convinced she was right for the part. Whoopi would later win an Oscar for her work on the film and thanked Swayze in her speech.
You two are GOOD! The first time I saw this movie I didn't peg Carl as the bad guy at all until the scene where he confronted Willie. You got him right away. Very impressive. The actor playing the gost in the subway that teaches Sam how to move things in the physical world was played by Vincent Schiavelli. He is a wonderful actor with a very distinctive look. As you said, kind of like a Muppet. He looks that way because he has Marfan syndrome. This is an inherited disorder that affects connective tissue - the fibers that support and anchor your organs and other structures in your body. Marfan syndrome most commonly affects the heart, eyes, blood vessels and skeleton. People with Marfan syndrome are usually tall and thin with unusually long arms, legs, fingers and toes. I sort of makes it look like he's melting. It can be fatal, but MR. Schiavelli died from lung cancer in 2005.
Patrick was so wonderful. Terrible that he passed so young. He succumbed to pancreatic cancer in 2009. He was originally pursuing a career as a dancer but at one point he developed a persistent infection in his knee which ended up affecting him long term, so he turned to acting. First film I saw him in was the cult classic "Red Dawn". He was also a singer and had a hit song that reached number three on the hot 100, and number one on the Adult Contemporary charts titled "She's Like the Wind", which Patrick said was inspired by his wife. They fell in love as teens and they were married for 34 years until his death. Was tough for me to watch Tony Goldwyn (Carl) after this film, which is a testament to his acting ability. I finally got over it and have enjoyed seeing him in numerous roles over the years. He is the grandson of Samuel Goldwyn of Metro Goldwyn-Mayer Studios fame.
Red Dawn was a great movie. I get very emotional at that end scene where a very wounded Patrick Swayze is carrying his dying brother past that enemy officer and he (being very moved) just lets them pass and he carries him to the park and they both die on that bench together as it's snowing to seemingly a place where they probably played and were once happy as kids. I'm getting emotional just writing about it.
You can see his classical training in how he moves, even when he's not dancing. For instance, after he's a ghost, and he jumps through the door... that's a very "dancy" way to leap. Regular people don't leap like that, but dancers do... he's just so graceful in all that he does.
(2:44) Cassie: *"She* _(Whoopi)_ *acts?"* And Whoopi wept. 😢 She has been acting for 40 years: "Sister Act 1 + 2", "The Color Purple", "Rat Race", "Jumpin’ Jack Flash", "Burglar", "Star Trek: The Next Generation", "Star Trek Generations", "Star Trek Nemesis", "Star Trek: Picard", "Homer and Eddie", "Corrina, Corrina", "Ghosts of Mississippi", "The Associate", etc., etc.,...
Carl was played by Tony Goldwyn, a very accomplished actor and grandson of Samuel Goldwyn of Metro- Goldwyn-Mayer studios (the lion roaring at the beginning of movies).
Sam was such a good spirit when he saw dead Carl. You felt the sadness in his voice when he said Carl`s name, he knew Carl was the reason he died but he still felt a sadness knowing what was coming for him. Carl hurt him bad but Sam still felt bad for him, no sense of anger or revenge just like Why did you do this
And to be fair to Carl, and this is something I think the ladies missed also, he said to Willy that he was only supposed to steal Sam's wallet, not kill him. So Carl was dirty, no doubt, but he didn't mean for Sam to die.
"The Ghost and Mrs Muir" is a great film. Rex Harrison played a gorgeous ghost. Also consider "On Borrowed Time" starring Lionel Barrymore (Drew Barrymore's relative), "Death Takes a Holiday" (1941?) is the original version of "Meet Joe Black".
I even liked the ol' Ghost and ,Mrs. Muir sitcom starring Hope Lang and Edward Mulhare that aired on ABC. Not as classic as the movie, but entertaining nonetheless.
I'm glad you two watched this one and liked it! If you want to see other films with Patrick Swayze I'd suggest Point Break and Roadhouse. For Demi Moore I'd suggest G.I. Jane.
42 year old former Infantryman and combat veteran. This movie will bring me to tears every time. I love my wife so deeply just the thought of one of us dying (which is inevitable) and being apart crushes me. Glad the two of you enjoyed this movie.
I remember when i saw that movie the first time at the age of 35 (?) bec my wife loves it, i wasnt that interested bec Swayze, "woman movie", love story etc...but i had tears too.
If you want to see more comedic Whoopi, watch "Jumping Jack Flash" and if you want to see her in an amazing dramatic role, you need to watch "The Color Purple ".
I've seen it many times because it's a movie that my family enjoys so whenever it's on Tv we get along and watch it. Never made me cry, but this movie reaction made me tear. lol. Great reactions.
The bank scene, and the one following it where Whoopi gave the check to the nuns always has me dying from laughters. One of the most memorable moments of comedy in all the cinema history.
You two have such beautiful souls. I’ve seen these movies many times but it’s a joy to watch them through your eyes. Great channel and happy holidays to you and your family.
agreed cassie & sis def should start the TREK, someone suggested she see the space seed tv episode with Ricardo montalban before seein the WRATH of khan film, i think that' a good idea
This one really hits hard. This is the 6 month anniversary of my girlfriend dying from ovarian cancer at age 25. I miss her so much, I would give anything to hold her in my arms again. Great reaction.
You're both too young for such sorrow.😥 I hope that every time you think of her, that you feel her around you, the love is stronger & therefore she has gone nowhere. Wishing you a gentle healing.🌹
I have been travelling and photographing Holy men and tribes in different countries. 99% of what I have seen is BS, but two incidents with 2 seperate Tribal Elders convinced me, or I should say proved to me without a doubt that life continues after we pass. You will see her again, she does see you, but only in cases of suicide will you fail to see her. Live your life, be happy, your time will come.
I remember when the movie came out, seeing in the news that it made people more religious and wanting to be good. I cant say im a particularly religious person, but Im all about anything that makes people want to become a better person
Patrick Swayze died in September of 2009 of Pancreatic cancer at the age of 57. My wife of 30 years died of Pancreatic cancer only half a month after he did at the age of 48. She looked up to him as a strong roll model for fighting it. It was found in her in March of 2009 and she pasted in early October 2009. Patrick was diagnosed in January of 2008 and lasted far longer than her. His ( Patrick's) last words, " the Love inside, You take it with you" always makes me gush with tears. I know it's true because I'm taking it with me. There is no one but my wife still and my love for her is stronger than the day she left.
Find a new wife you can love More than just one person you know... You only have one life to live when we are gone, that's it.. We enter nothingness Till eternity, It's hard but you should I lost my wife when she was 28 in 2006 I just started getting into the dating scene again this past month. and I turned 49 in May , She would want you to be happy. Even Patrick Swayze's wife finally moved on
If it makes you feel good, Consciousness most likely continues after our biological death, NDE prove that where people have spiritual experiences with zero brain activity.
@@G_Singh222 but you need to know whether you are going to Heaven or Hell. This film doesn't tell you the truth. The truth is that nobody without Jesus will get to Heaven.
@@agemoth I don’t believe that The bible is the truth, since it contradicts with reality, the god of the bible is supposed to be love yet we see a horrible nature out there, homosexuals are supposed to go to hell for practising their nature.
You both should check out Always as well. Kinda similar in theme, but no real "bad guy". Plus it's a Steven Spielberg film. It's more on the humorous side, but serious also. It's a great watch.
another fantastic reaction guys! speaking of Whoopi, you should definitely check out The Color Purple. it was her first major role and she knocked it out of the park! it's also a Spielberg film. ❤
Whoopi was so awesome back in the day. Btw.. Vincent Schiavelli was the actor who played the 'subway ghost'. He was also the biology teacher Mr Vargas in Fast Times At Ridgemont High (as well as many many other roles). His character face was his claim to fame. He was beloved by all, as was Patrick. RIP Patrick and Vincent.
Contemporaneously with "Ghost," another film "Truly, Madly, Deeply" starring newcomer Alan Rickman (known only for his role as Hans Gruber at that time) was released almost simultaneously with a similar premise. It is a much more sad story, and deals directly with loss and grief and moving on. It won several awards for its originality and is worth watching if you actually watch any movies for your own pleasure.
I loved him in Quigley Down Under. I think the girls would love that movie, an Australian Western, with Tom Selleck, Rickman, and Laura San Giacomo. It has all the elements they love in a movie
@@allenwhitmer8192 there are other new Australian tv and moves that are good. the first underbelly tv series from 2008 the first two underbelly files movies the third is not that good. charlie and boots. red hill. balibo. the legend of ben hall. beneath hill 60.. mystery road. and it's sequel goldstone. danger close. cassie and her family should come to Australia if the motel or hotel has Stan a Australian streaming service on the tv in the room than cassie can watch some Australian tv and movies. don't know if she would be able to react to the shows in a motel or hotel.
Hill I will die on is Tony Goldwyn's scared acting is one of the best I've ever seen. Most actors seem to think the more scared you are the more over the top your face, but fright is a gut feeling, like you're sick to your stomach and he does it so well. Also you should watch Point Break as well!
Ghost was shopped all over town but none of the studios were interested. Jerry Zucker was the director and all he was known for was Airplane! The studios didn’t think it would work with him as the director. Finally, Paramount gave him a shot and the rest is history. Also, the pottery scene was parodied in one of the Naked Gun movies.
@@ct6852The most important thing is you must have a good story, well told. Without a good story, the best special effects in the world can’t save it. A recent example would be Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. People stayed away in droves and it lost a TON of money.
I'd call the ending "bittersweet". Very few movies can do so many genres and balance them so well. Such a classic movie. Definitely watch "Sister Act"! Also, don't know if either of you have seen Disney's "Hunchback of Notre Dame" but Demi Moore is the voice of Esmerelda.
I remember going to Block Buster and picking out this movie on VHS as a kid because it said Ghost ,lol. When I saw it again later as an adult it hit me emotionally. Patrick and Demi had amazing chemistry. This movie hits all the feels. If you want to see another good Demi Moore movie GI Jane.
Hey Cassie & Carlie! I'm glad you both enjoyed the movie. It did really well when it came out as well as bringing tears to the eyes of many. The premise is rather simple yet told in such a beautiful way. I love this movie. As i see the choice of movies you are choosing at the moment, i do have a suggestion, if you haven't seen it. Although were have you been if you haven't?, lol!😂 The suggested movie would be ' Pretty Woman ' It is another great romantic movie that did so well and was loved by many. There are of course a great many more but i'll suggest that for now. A wonderful video as always. It's a joy seeing your reactions. Have a wonderful day both of you and take care!
My mom, who is 101, has always liked this movie, but really loved learning that the sound of the "bad ghosts" was made by slowing down a recording of babies crying.
Demi was married to Bruce Willis for years. They have grown kids together, and have always loved each other. They once and she married Ashton Kushner..they remained married and a few years and Bruce remained friends with both of them. Then she and Ashton broke up and I believe she and Bruce reunited. He's seriously I'll now and surrounded and loved by Demi and their adult children. It's very sad 💦
The film won two Academy Awards...Best Supporting Actress for Whoopi and Best Original Screenplay for Bruce Joel Rubin. One of my Mom's favorite movies (RIP Mom) . Great reaction from you two.
I love this movie even though it poses serious problems with almost all of my male friends. Whenever I mention to my friends that I cry at this movie and watch it at least twice a year (in the course of a "handkerchief event") I get laughed at. Doesn't matter. I love it.
I'm an avowed atheist for whom the supernatural in all its imagined manifestations is bunkum. And I'm a guy. But for movies like this I can switch off the critic and let the waterworks flow.
My wife and I went to see this on our first date! 32 years ago. It was such a big hit that the theaters were jam packed, and we got there a bit late and the only seats were right up front! Oh dear! It's a great 1st date story anyway. ☺❤ Well done on picking up on the Carl angle. Not a lot of people caught that until the reveal. Lots of gasps in the audience. Whoopi won the Oscar for this, she was great. I love their version of what happens to your soul when you die. Light of peaceful beings to escort to Heaven OR nasty shadow demons to pull you down to Hell for eternity. Both beautiful and chilling. 😇😈 The ending ALWAYS makes me tear up. 🥲 (BTW, Demi Moore is famous for being able to cry on demand, real tears! Powerful skill.)😭
the lesson the creepy dead guy gave him about moving objects sounded like the same guidance yoda gave luke when teaching him about the force. "all your anger, all your hate and just move it!" also the sounds of the dark spirits that take bad people away was made by recording babies crying and they reveresed the sounds and slowed them down to make that horrible noise
Little known fact, Stephen Root played the police officer that Demi's character talked too....he's played in hundreds of films and tv shows in his career but is best known as Milton in Office Space. Have you seen my stapler?
The next Swayze movie you should watch is Point Break. Great action movie, also starring Keanu Reeves. The reason that you should watch it next is that after Shaun of the Dead, everyone wants you to watch Hot Fuzz. But Hot Fuzz spoils the crap out of Point Break, so you need to watch it first.
The bit when the guy pretends to be contagious in the lift is actually a thing the director Jerry Zucker had been doing in real life for years, along with David Zucker and Jim Abrahams. The three of them previously wrote Airplane! and The Naked Gun. Ghost is spoofed in the Naked Gun sequel, although Jerry Zucker was not involved in the writing. But his brother was and asked him the permission to steal the classic pottery scene. The voice over in the teaser trailer announced: "From the brother of the director of Ghost."
I’m 35 years old and grew up watching this film because of my two older sisters. The ending still brings me to tears. It’s so beautiful and bittersweet. It’s so unfortunate that he was murdered and that they were robbed of their time together, but it’s amazing that there was this kind of closure (knowing what happened, knowing how the other felt and getting to say I love you one last time) I think that’s what most people would want, especially after the losing a loved one so unexpectedly.
Righteous Brothers-- Unchained Melody was EVERYTHING in this movie. That pottery scene is etched in movie greatness. RIP Patrick Swayze. So many good movies-- Point Break, Red Dawn, etc... Demi Moore-- St. Elmo's Fire, Indecent Proposal. GREAT movie in it's time.
19:43 Before computers people had to make a lot of phone calls to find out if someone has a criminal record. And it was easy to slip through the cracks, so criminals would move a lot to new jurisdictions. Which then gave rise to people being suspicious of new people and transients (this goes back thousands of years). But at the same time populations were a lot smaller so people knew each other and and could keep tabs on people easier. It boils down to a simple reality, yes you could leave one place and almost start a new life elsewhere, but if you're a career criminal, you'll be soon enough burning bridges there too, so it wouldn't make much of a difference. If you really wanted to change your life you could. But then, people can still do that now for the most part.
Because i know you like Keanu reeves and Patrick Swayze you should definitely check out the movie “Point Break” it’s an action movie about a bank robbery and surfers. And last but not least , there’s a love story in it 😉
I can't watch this movie without crying, even though I've seen it many times. In no small part because Patrick died so horribly, of pancreatic cancer. I remember some of the final pictures of him, he was only 57, but looked 90, he was so gaunt. But I choose not to think of him that way, I'll always remember him from this movie, and Dirty Dancing-so help me, if they EVER try to remake that movie like they did Roadhouse, there will be HELL TO PAY! Other movies too. Speaking of Hell, when I saw this in theaters, the black shadows scared the CRAP OUT OF ME! If there is a Hell, I imagine that is exactly what populates it. They're the essence of Evil. No pitchforks, no horns, no demons, just beings of non-energy and Darkness. Heck, they still scare me today. There is something so primal and visceral about them. I know Carl was a bad guy, but I felt bad for him at the end. He never meant for Sam to be killed. Willy was just supposed to rob him. At the end, when Carl sees Sam again, he looks so happy to see him. He really did love his friend. Carl did some crappy things that brought about his own demise, but he was more careless and desperate than evil. I know it makes for a better ending, but I think Carl should have gone to somewhere between Heaven and Hell, maybe Limbo, maybe to another life on Earth. Tony Goldwyn, who played Carl, is a member of Hollywood royalty, of Metro-Goldwyn-Myer lineage. Glad you liked the movie. I'm still crying as I type this. You guys are one of my top four movie reactors, along with (in no particular order) Ashleigh Burton, AKA "Awkward Ashleigh," Alex Hefner and OctoKrool. I always look for you guys first when I want to watch a movie reaction! Thanks for being so darn good and real at it! You probably won't see this, since it's been a year, but on the off chance you do, I'm looking forward to more movie reactions with you! 💙
A lot of people consider this a chick flick, but I have loved this movie since I was a little kid. I have fond memories of watching this with my siblings and parents at my grandparents house 25 years ago
@Craig Perkey ---- There's another "chick flick" that I have to admit to really liking as well, that coincidentally also has Goldberg in. "Boys on the Side". Always thought it was underrated, and it's never talked about.
Great review! GHOST is such a good classic movie! I recommand ROAD HOUSE , it has Patrick Swayze , Sam Elliot, Kelly Lynch, Ben Gazzara, and Jeff Healey Band also plays in the movie and created the music to this master piece! Road House is a hidden Gem!🎤🎸🎶
This movie is so close to my heart. When my grandmother's best friend passed away, i watched this movie as it's been my comfort movie for a long time. Once the ending came and Sam walked into heaven, i was a complete mess with tears running down my face and i had to wake my mother up from sleeping because i was so upset. It felt like i was saying goodbye to her for the last time. Now, come up to a couple of years ago, i had a dream about my grandmother's best friend as she came to me in spirit, and i know it was her appearing to me. Her face was there as clear as day. She was walking towards a rocket/spaceship of some sort to depart into space. I felt like this was her from the afterlife telling me she was okay, and maybe she used space as a metaphor that she's never too far away if i ever need her. This dream was the closure i was wanting for so long. I absolutely believe something exists, and this dream felt like a confirmation. Ghost is absolutely one of the most beautiful films i've ever watched in my life, and i needed to share that story just to tell you why this film means everything to me. Thanks for doing this one!
I always thought there should be a sequel focusing on Oda Mae (Whoopi Goldberg)! Now that her gift has been activated, it would focus on her helping other souls solve their problems and move on!
Yay!! I’ve been waiting for you to get to Ghost! As others have said, it blends so many genres together just perfectly. I am really impressed you guys picked up on Carl’s shadiness so fast! I love the romance and serious moments of this movie, it’s beautiful, but for me Whoopi, and especially her chemistry with Patrick, make this film for me. She’s just hysterical. And they were perfect together.
Love this movie! Just a random little fun fact you guys get a kick out of: the actor who plays Carl in this (Tony Goldwyn) was, actually, the voice of Tarzan in Disney's "Tarzan" movie! Very different role than Carl, obviously! 😉
Nominated for 5 Oscars including Best Picture but won for Best Original Screenplay Best Supporting Actress Whoopi Goldberg. It was a box office success, making $505 million dollars against a $22-30 million dollar budget.
