Ghost in the Shell started as a manga, and the film and animated series aren't connected. Also the series is a lot more plot heavy than the movie. I actually prefer the series because it expands the characters more and has the Tachikomas.
I'm conflicted about the tachikomas, they have the worst episode (big adventure with a little girl) and they have some of the best payoff at the end of season one.
+Mordalon Although there is more plot in the series, I prefer the movie because of its more artistic nature. It focuses more on the idea of consciousness and the idea of AI and souls. The idea of human living in harmony with the AI and the question of what is the ghost in our shell the movie did way better. The boring parts (or montages) as Jeff calls them is something that build the atmosphere of the world. The spiritual wedding hum that plays as the camera goes around the city make you feel like you're part of the world.
+Mordalon I love all of it. All the movies, all the shows and everything. I have not read the mange yet tho, and a lot of the time I will have a hard time reading manga if the art style is too different from the show, which was the case of Trigun for me.
Early access game with a store? No. Just NO. If you start selling things it should no-longer be in early access. I'm fine with paying for an unfinished game (cheaper), but this is just using EA as an excuse for "it's not good enough yet"
Furyhunter Erm, naturally I wouldn't agree to those... What are you trying to say. I cringe everytime someone releases a project on steam and comes with excuses such as 'it's pre-pre-alpha'. What is that supposed to mean? Never heard of it. Pre-alpha should be raw code... Whatever, there's enough dumb people (or kids) that seem to be fooled easily. Pray to all the gods that major publishers don't get wind of this and smell the tons of cash. They're already selling us games as shopping platforms... :(
It's a shame that no one brings up Ghost in the Shell: Innocence, nearly as much as they should.. That film is legitimately my number one film of all time, simply because of how well animated it is, how well the world is built and just how beautiful everything is.. A real shame that Jeff didn't like it, although, I didn't expect that from him either. Shame the game is just a shooter though.. Really shit decision on their part.
+theocan Well to me, Innocence is probably my least favourite GITS media. Also, the fact that it's a shooter is OK. Nothing wrong with that per se. I think they could have done more with it, but I've always wanted a good GITS shooter. This may not be it (especially since they haven't put in any of the cool weapons from GITS), but we'll see how it'll evolve. Biggest shame about this game is that it's going to be F2P, which rarely bodes well.
***** Well Innocence is definitely more of an acquired taste. As for this game, the fact that at most, this game will be okay, doesn't really do the franchise a service. GITS did have firefights and battles but it was a show about hacking and investigation. I'd like to have seen a game that was much like Deus Ex. Obviously, this was a smaller company so they probably couldn't do something on that scale, but I would have liked to see a GITS title by a slightly larger company, someone who could produce a game that lives up to what GITS is about. My mind is blown about the Mateba too! Can't believe they missed that detail!
Besides maybe Bladerunner this is the cyberpunk over all other cyberpunk for me and they make a bland multiplayer shooter out of it...but that's the fad now I guess, ugh. Makes me sad.
Well to be fair it's still early and the anime wasn't too animesque to give them too much creativity room. I do look forward to seeing what they will implement
+Giant Bomb You guys made an erroneous mistake: all guns can be purchased via GP which is in-game currency, no real money. Real money buys NX points which can be used to buy skins and operative licences, as if now.
If it has a decent single player campaign I would be more interested. edit: I also feel sorry for the devs on this who were maybe expecting you guys to talk about the game lmao!
Cool to hear the real voicecast. Shame they havent really utilized the license at all and just made a mediocre shooter with a GITS skin. You should totally get into Stand Alone Complex. Its pretty damn good.
There just doesn't seem to be enough to distinguish this from other shooters, but I guess that's why it's early access. I really feel like the characters should have a tier 3 ability that ties more closely with their character. It should act like a tier 2 ability but automatically effect enemies in range. The Major as a well known hacker could hack enemies causing damage and stunning them or if they're low enough death by frying their cyberbrain. Togusa could have his revolver with near golden gun properties say two or three body shots to kill or one to the head to do the job.
turtlebuttmudd The GB crew (most anyway) have always been dismissive about all anime. That is like rejecting ALL american cartoons. There is no sound basis for it. Anime is not a subset, which a Hollywood film is. Anime is the term applied to animation in Japan.
Might play this when it's out of EA. Simple free to play fun in one of my fave anime universes. Jeff's totally right though that although gunplay is no stranger to GitS, something like a story based TPS or RPG might have fit the tone better. EDIT: The guys should take a look at a few eps of SAC. Austin was spot on with his description. It might be a little too dry for some people though.
Thanatos388 Yeah, but that was fiddly awkward FPS. PSP controls are bad for games that require real-time camera control. The only game I've played where it worked somewhat was Valkyria Chronicles 2.
Japan Pro is really sick, minimal to no story, and really acrobatic dudes with great personas. Can't wait to see it get runied to appeal to American kids! Also, never seen the Gits movie, but SAC:1 & 2 *And I even enjoyed ARISE) are fucking sick. You guys should watch more of it. Also, a game more like the one you were wanting would be the PS2 one they mentioned.

+sadfunda It's really not. I've seen it a ton of times and its like the Gone Home or Beginners Guide of anime to me. No substance beyond the philosophy and production values. The characters are barely characters and the plot doesn't matter. I get why people like it but its not like it did anything revolutionary outside of the technical aspects.
Man, I barely watched any Stand Alone Complex, but Batou is the shit. He saw some shit in Vietnam, man. ... Sadly, it looks like this game is just "shit", sans the "the." Big difference, unfortunately.
ghost in the shell anime not good ? omg it`s rated as the second or third best anime movie ever made i admit its not for everyone but it is a masterpiece people dont listen its a must watch for any anime lover it will be in youre top 5 no question about it
