This is Kacee's first time watching reaction to the movie Ghost (1990). Sam Wheat (Patrick Swayze) is a banker, Molly Jensen (Demi Moore) is an artist, and the two are madly in love. However, when Sam is murdered by friend and corrupt business partner Carl Bruner (Tony Goldwyn) over a shady business deal, he is left to roam the earth as a powerless spirit. When he learns of Carl's betrayal, Sam must seek the help of psychic Oda Mae Brown (Whoopi Goldberg) to set things right and protect Molly from Carl and his goons.

@PygmalionFaciebat Год назад
@@USCFlash In my opinion a movie isnt measured by some "magical objective standards" , but what the movie WANTS to be. And this movie didnt wanted to go deep into some sort of metaphysics about afterlife, or any philosophical topics. Thats why Whoopy Goldberg plays literally a caricature of a spiritual person. Thats why the subway-ghost is a caricature. Thats why Sam and Molly have a cliche relationship,... thats why Carl is a one-dimensional villain, without any character arc (the only somehow characterarc in the movie is Molly). All those things and more - as much they could be strawmanned by you, are a well written balance of all of its elements, which on a popcorn-movie-level can definetely entertain or even move the audience, as you not only see on its sucess (yes i know, thats not per se a sign of a good movie), but also from reactions, and yes - also in my family everyone liked that movie. On the other hand, you also could say me your favorite movies, and i am sure, with the same attitude, i could rip them apart - because everything can be explained as bad if someone wants. So in the end, like i said: the value of a movie should be measured in: what it wants to be, and how much it achieves it. I also disagree, that the actors acted badly. They were just caricaturized - thats a different thing. And in my opinion it served the entity the movie wanted to be. Thats it. Its also because the movie wanted to be entertainment and understandable for children, as well as for adults. Thats a lot to handle. And as i said - in that sense, it succeded, in my opinion. Because you said : Whoopy did only this good in a artistically sense.. mh... what about her first movie, which got an oscar ? Also bad ?

Hi Kacee, When this movie came out, it was huge! Whoopi won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role in Ghost. It was nominated for several Oscars, including Best Picture. Jerry Zucker directed Ghost. He had a really hard time trying to get this movie made. He shopped it all over Hollywood and no one was interested. He was so closely associated with Airplane! and The Naked Gun that the studios didn't think he could pull it off, that he was first and foremost a comedy director. Finally, Paramount gave him a chance. The rest is history. Definitely watch Overboard (not the remake). It's a good one.

So, the story goes that the producers managed to get Swayze (their first choice) for the role of Sam Wheat. For those of us around at the time it didn't take a massive stretch of the imagination to spot that the role of Oda Mae was practically written for Whoopi. Nevertheless the senior studio suits pushed back on the idea and insisted on auditions, specifically insisting that Whoopi wasn't right for the role because they claimed that the audience would see Whoopi being herself and not Oda Mae Brown. Apparently at this point, Swayze cottoned onto what they were up to and told them in no uncertain terms that if Whoopi wasn't given a chance to be cast in the role, he'd walk from the project on the spot. As Whoopi put it later : "And thanks to Patrick, I have an Oscar".
@valleya6114
@valleya6114 Год назад
Yeah, it's no secret Swayze wanted Goldberg for this role... Glad it all worked out. Sometimes producers need to trust artist to help with choosing cast mates. We get it producers have a HUGE stake in making sure the film they work on succeeds. Sometimes it's just an actor saying "hey...I really want to work with this person.. I've seen their work... they would be great for this project..."

The ending never fails to make me tear up. Sam finally finds his peace, he and Molly get to say their I love yous and goodbyes and he promises he'll see her again one day. And even though it's never explicitly said, I like to think that Molly finds a way to move on eventually and live and love again, now that she knows everything is going to be okay. "All the love inside. You take it with you." It's such a beautiful line. It encapsulates, for me, the nature of eternity in God's presence. Everlasting, infinite love, growing more perfect with every passing day.

The 1990 film “Ghost” was directed by Jerry Zucker When Bruce Joel Rubin the writer of this story heard that Zucker was going to direct it he said he almost cried because Zucker (along with his brother David Zucker and Jim Abrahams) were known for films such as “Airplane!”, “Top Secret”, and the Naked Gun film series, and Rubin assumed that Zucker was going to turn his narrative into a zany story.

Every mow and then, a truly unique idea for a film comes along. Until this point, ghosts were far more associated with the horror/supernatural genre. Stories were usually tied to haunted houses, burial grounds, and other tropes that were part of pop culture. This film took a different approach & redefined the topic a bit. Not only that, it packaged it up in a love story, while also attaching it to a mystery/thriller story. It also has a good amount of action, towards the end. I am glad you finally got to see this - not only for its Naked Gun relevance, but also for its place in 90's culture. That scene redefined the boundaries of love scenes, and for its time, it became a standard for 90's love stories. That's one reason, the scene made it into the Naked Gun movie. For other films contemporary to this one, you might also like Beetlejuice and The Abyss, if you haven't seen those already.

The other little interesting fact about one of the actors, Tony Goldwyn (Carl), is the grandson of one of the three founders of MGM (Samuel Goldwyn as the G in the initials). Also in 3 of his first 6 acting credits (movie and overall acting debut was getting killed in "Friday The 13th Part VI: Jason Lives," as a man dying of AIDS on an episode of "Designing Women" & this movie) I joke that see getting killed in the beginning of your acting career and one day you can be President of the US (well, he did play the role of the President in the hit series "Scandal")

My mom an get 2 gf who also had sons my age took us all to see this movie with them ( meaning no babysitters ) so I must have been 3-4 and I remember this past cus it’s when we all got kicked out cus even tho I thought I was being quiet I kept screaming to my mom “ mommy why are they playing with their 💩? “ and from what I was told as I grow up. I continuously asked even tho they have a few warnings, but we finally got the boot an I remember my 20 year old mom being so mad she threw the soda at me on the way to the car 😂 childhood trauma 🤦🏻‍♂️

Best reaction was the pottery scene! You can now appreciate the Naked Gun scene even more! It was genius!

Tank is another fun movie you might like. It's from 1984 and it's an action drama with some comedy mixed in. It stars James Garner, Shirley Jones, Jenilee Harrison and C. Thomas Howell.

Hi Kacce. May I say, you are beautiful and have a great sense if humour. Your guy Is a very lucky man Ghost is a fantastic movie. It has a simple yet wonderful story. It does a great job of helping you get to know the characters and helps you connect with them. There is of course some wonderful humour in it too. As for movies, if you haven't seen it, I think you'd really enjoy ' Pretty woman ' It's a great movie that was made somewhere around the time if ghost I think and has a good story. A great video aa always, take care! ❤

The one fact that I love about this movie is the sounds of the shadows were crying babies played backwards and slowed down. There are elements of this movie that adds some legitimate horror to it and that's one of them for me. Love it! Gonna throw out a suggestion for another 1990 classic for you: Jacob's Ladder (the original). A good one for the upcoming Halloween season.
