Hello L33Reacts ! Nightwish fan here, your musical quest summoned me. Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This live recording is from Wacken Open Air 2013, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). In May 2021 they played 2 full virtual live stream concerts because they could not tour their new album until recently. I was one of over 150,000 people from 108 countries who paid to watch them live virtually, and I finally got to see them in person last May 2022. There are documentaries and lots of info online. Seriously skilled musicians.

I am an old metal head, Nightwish is on a whole different level. Floor is the greatest vocalist I have ever heard, she is a metal head too btw. This band only makes great music and I hope you check out more. The band is from Finland, and the singer, Floor Jansen is from the Netherlands and currently lives in Sweden with her husband Hannes, the drummer for the band Sabaton. Like and subbed for your Nightwish Journey.

As a child I went down the Pink floyd rabbit hole. In my teen´s and twenties it was Tool. I have to say the most rewarding and magical musical journey I have been on is with Nightwish. So much emotion, lyrical genius and captivating compositions. Nightwish hit me like no other band has done and for that I´m so grateful. A discovery of a lifetime :)

Great reaction. I'm an old NW fan (since 1999) and I can tell you that this is one of the best NW performances ever, and Floor killed it. Floor is definitely goddess warrior with a gentle soul. You mentioned - she's tall - well, yeah, she's about 6'1" without heels. With heels - she stands about 6'5" for sure and she's a vocal beast that can literally sing anything. And I mean from opera, though pop, all the way to the metal growls. Definitely one of the best singers of our era. Greetings from Croatia 🖖

Welcome to the world of symphonic metal and Nightwish. Formed in 1996, they are from Finland. 3rd and current lead singer, Floor Jansen, is Dutch. Yep, she's tall, 6' +heels. Looks even taller next to guitarist Emppu Vuorinen, he is 5'3". BTW, his purple guitar is his baby, a custom ESP Ev-1. Yep, keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen is the mastermind, he writes 90-95% of the songs. Those are just stage decoration around the 3 Korg keyboards. Floor had only been with the band about 10 months here, having taken over mid tour. Every song at this show was written for one of the first 2 singers. As you will see, every song is different. I see, you have found Gabriel Bardac's comment with more info. Their studio stuff is great, but they EXCEL at live. I recommend Romanticide or Storytime next , both from this show. That fvcking pipe organ thing is a fvcking decoration - and it couldn't have been a fvcking real one because the Goddess proper HATES the sound of the real fvcking pipe organ thing. As others have said, they are from Finland, but Floor…the singer….is from the Netherlands. There is also a sixth member of the band, not seen in this video…multi-instrumentalist/singer Troy, who is from the UK. Tuomas…the keyboard player…writes the majority of the music and lyrics. Gabriel provided you with his standard list…it will not steer you wrong. Every song on it is great. You’ll find that they are, perhaps, more versatile than you might think from this initial experience. They incorporate a lot of different genres, influences and textures into their music, and the result is that no two songs really sound alike.

Nightwish was formed in Finland in 1996 and at this concert consist of Finns, Tuomas, keyboards and main composer, Emppu, lead guitar, Marko, bass guitar and backing vocals, Jukka, drummer, and 6ft Dutchwoman and third and latest frontwoman, Floor Jansen. There is a sixth member not in this song called Troy Donockley a multi-instrumentalist from England. This concert was in 2013 and is considered to be a definitive moment in their history as Floor only with the band ten months and is singing every song written for previous two singers, Tarja ( 1996-2005, operatic) and Anette(2007-2012, pop) and taking many to a different level including this one.

Everyone loves Floor, and I do to...she is the best, most versatile singer on the planet, but my favorite member is Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player. He writes about 96 percent of all the music, words, and arrangement you hear. He is generational, someone who comes along about once every 100 years. He truly is the "Metal Mozart"!!!!!

I’m really glad you caught on so quickly to the importance of the keyboard player in this band. That man is the genius behind the band and one of the greatest musical composers of our day, and it’s so easy to kinda forget that he’s there because, well, keyboard isn’t usually something that stands out and there’s an absolute beast of a singer on stage drawing all the attention. Yet, he’s the one that’s written and arranged everything and controls all the myriad of instrumental tracks and recordings, triggering them in time with the band alongside playing his own parts and generally losing himself in the music all at the same time. I feel truly blessed to have discovered this band for myself and seen them at the peak of their greatness.

Very nice reaction and you have no odea how spot on you are. In this band everyone checks his ego at the stage. Everyone will do exactly what the song needs without trying to outshine other members. You're absolutely correct that they have fun on the stage, they all love what they're doing and love to give people a good time. They definitely don't take themselves too seriously. In fact Tuomas (keyboards and composer) has said this more than once in an interview. They are all very down to Earth and that's another reason why love'em so much. Main reason however, awesome musicians and killer songs. 🤘🏽 Enjoy your journey inti their catalogue, please always do them live... They're better live than in the studio.

Welcome into the wonderful world of storytelling by Nightwish and their incredible talented female vocalist Floor Jansen. (pronounce Yahn-Sen). Although the band is Finnish their 3rd female vocalist isn’t, she is Dutch. Floor was born on Februari 21st, 1981 in Goirle the Netherlands. At the age of 16 she started her career (initially) just as the background singer from the Dutch metal band ‘After Forever’ in 1997, but real soon she took over the lead until early 2009 and the band fell apart. Parallel she studied at the Dutch Rock Academy in Tilburg starting in 1999 where she graduated in 2003 and spent two years on classical training with the National Conservatory. She studied Musical Theatre and one year Opera. She plays guitar, piano and flute and has completed 12 years of music studies. She’s a Light Lyric Soprano and her vocalrange runs from E3 to D6. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons. On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ‘ReVamp’, which was disbanded in September 2016. In August 2010 Jansen was a guest in the TV program De tiende van Tijl. In that program she sang an aria by Puccini. From October 1, 2012 (while she was within ReVamp, but recovering from a burnout) Floor replaced Anette Olzon as the singer of Nightwish halfway their Imaginaerum World Tour. After one year (shortly after the Wacken Open Air festival concert 2013) on October 9th 2013, it was announced that she was to become the group's regular new front singer. Is this real live? I really enjoyed how at the end of the song she opens her right arm as to asking for the audience to cheer the lads on stage, but the most important thing is that she raises her arm and points to Jukka. As impressive as they all were, the beat and the rhythm Jukka did was awesome. Not one beat more than needed, not one beat short. Most definitely, one of the best drummers, if not the best drummer I have ever seen. And knowing he was suffering from insomnia, makes his performance even much more difficult. What a pro, god like.

You are spot on with your comment about Floor’s stage presence. I have been to hundreds of concerts, including Nightwish, and the only 2 people who I have personally seen that can match her stage presence is David Bowie and Peter Gabriel. I suspect Freddie Mercury would be in this group, but I never got to see him live. Floor can sing in many genres/styles and even in 5 or so different languages. She can go from Italian opera, to Spanish rock and just about anything else she tries. Anyway, others have stated as such, but while this song is a nice sampler platter of Floor’s and NIghtwish’s talents, it barely scratches the surface. Follow Gabriel’s lead, stick with links he provides for live shows (since they are all high quality) and you are in for a real treat.

I envy you. You are now where I was about six or seven weeks ago. It's been a wild ride ever since! Floor Jansen has leapt right to the top of my favourite singers of all time - the most talented singer I've heard in my 45 years on the planet, and the band as a whole are just incredible. It's a shame it took me so long to find them.

I saw them finally live this wednesday. It was everything I hoped for and so much more. It was the last concert of their tour and whole band was in an amazing mood, especially Floor.

The pipe organ thingie is just decoration. And you are one of the very few reactors to notice the signature Floor fan! The flaming steerhead in the corner is a Wacken symbol.

Surprised you didn't mention anything about Jukka's drumming (being a drummer and all). He was phenomenal on this song....well, the whole band are awesome musicians and Floor is on another level. Cheers!

Most Nightwish songs are a multisensorial experience, especially Live (the best way to listen to them, except if you want to hear songs with the second singer, Annet Olzon who wasn't very good live but great, although VERY different from the 2 others, on Studios versions). Floor is a real warrior: last November, the band resumed its European tour a mere 2 week after she got a treatment for breast cancer.

Glad you decided to react to this band..Welcome to Symphonic Metal.this is with their 3rd singer Floor Jansen,a 6’1” Dutch vocal beast who’s had classical training and been with the band since 2012.They’re definitely a band that are better live,their studio stuff is good but it’s their live performances where they shine…they go from operatic though to rock,folk,Celtic and on to thrash and everything in between,hope you decide to dip your toe into some more. If you decide to react to some more NightWish then Gabriel’s list is the best option to choose from as all his links have all great audio quality and are from the best concerts performance wise😊👍

If you fell in love with the lead vocalist, Floor Jansen, you have *millions* of folk for company there. Your perceptions of her were in fact dead on. Very tall - over 6' - and obviously with the pipes to match! Her stage presence is unsurpassed. You were also QUITE correct - she is a *very* down-to-earth person and LOVES being in that band. To them, that's their sister and those are her brothers. It shows!!!! When she "does her thing", they just sit back and smile. You'll see it over and over again. Please stay on this journey, this rabbit hole tumble - you won't regret it. BTW - sub!

You have just entered a new reality, that of NIGHTWISH and the Nightwish ARMY. Floor Yansen is THE BEST vocalist I have ever heard. And Nightwish is a band that bs so tight. They play with a backing track, but you never hear a miss. If you listen to Gabriel, he will walk you thru the most exciting rabbet hole you have ever gone thru. In 2000 they showed up on my radar, but it was in 2007 i really got hooked with the "Dark Passion Play" album featuring Anette, the 2nd singer. The first singer, Tarja (Tarya) had, in my opinion, a one dimentional voice. Only opera. In this video you see and hear Floor Jansen as the third and present singer of Nightwish. -The Fan is a Floor Fan (several Puns Intended 😄 ) -That symbol in the corner is the Logo of the festival in Germany called Wacken Open Air. The biggest Metal Festival in the world. -Empuu's Guitar IS beautiful. It is a custom made ESP EV-1. And since you mentioned the color... The Band Deep Purple had some amazing songs... -Nightwish is a band from Finland (Suomi in Finnish). Floor Jansen (pronounced Yansen) is our Dutch Vakyrie Queen of Symphonic Metal... Or a brilliant singer and very nice person from The Netherlands, Married to the Drummer in the Swedish band "Sabaton", Hannes Van Dahl. -It was NOT a child in the front row. (She's on camera several times in this concert). i hope she's not offended. it IS, after all, almost ten years ago, and i suspect she has seen this DVD a million times as the rest of us in the Nightwish Army. (I have no clue who she is, though). -Yes. Floor Jansen is tall: 1,83 meters, or 6ft ⅛ in. She's born February 21st 1981. -You just had your first "Floorgasm", dude :-) -The keyboard player, Toumas Holopainen, is the brain behind Nightwish. He composes like 90-95% of the music. He's regarded as "The Mozart of Metal". A few songs into this rabbit hole, and you will understand why. "Romanticide" next.
