St James Cemetery in Liverpool really has it all, A vampire, a witch, and the ghost of a little girl called grace. The site was originally a quarry dating to the 16th century and the stone it produced was used in many buildings in the city. When all the useable stone was exhausted in 1825, a new use was found for the site. The cemetery opened in 1829, and planned to use the rock as catacombs, however it wasn't a popular choice and many weren't even excavated.
As we walk around, keep your eyes peeled for the ghost of little Grace, she's said to still play here, just as she did when she was alive.

Lovely video Dan. Pleased that you found the engraving of 'Little Grace', it isn't easy to find. Apparently, grace was the illegitimate child of a wealthy merchant, and when she died aged 4, he had her buried without a marker. Her ghost appeared to one Joseph Donough while he was visiting the cemetery, and showed him where she was buried, and it is said it was Joseph who etched her name in the rock near her burial place. At 28.20 in your video, 2 of the vaults you are in front of, were broken into in the late 1960's. A policeman found some young boys playing football with a human skull in Duke St. They took the policeman to the cemetery where they had found the skull, and the policeman then discovered 2 vaults had been broken into, and items stolen from the coffins inside. lovely place to spend an evening. atb Mike

Used to live near here. We played there as kids, got caught at night a few times. Running up that path through the cut through is very scary at night when you are ten. If you go look at the gravestones around the walls. So sad, lots from orphanages. You can also go to the cathedral, brilliant place to spend an afternoon at this time of the year.

How unusual of a cemetery. So very sad that so many of those people buried there were so young. Very high mortality rate during those times. Life was so incredibly hard and disease was rampant. 😢

It’s such a shame that so many stones are removed from where the people who they represent are laid to rest. It’s not the stones in actuality, it’s the person, once alive and loved, who count. Those poor souls’ resting places are lost to us all. It’s a shame to separate the marker from the person buried. Grave stones stand to represent those who no longer are able to stand here above ground, a silent reminder of the silent dead beneath and even if you can’t read them any longer, you know there’s a person who lies there.

Do you know that prior for the place to be turned to Cemetery in the 17th Century this is a Holy Place because, it is the least snow area in the entire Liverpool. This is the Centillion Comb or the place that housed the Half Horse and Half Human whereto the Enchanted Half Lion and Half Human was caged for a Millennium. It is why it is called the Liver-Pool, a ditch like the pool and trash for the Liver of Men. All people that died in Drowning were Dories to be the food of the Enchanted because they believe they are impostors and fake British. All British are Naval and Sailors that are born with the skill to swim. A reason why our Baby are thrown in the pool to check if they flout, if they drown they are not BRITISH BLOOD. I know this because I am British. As you see their names are with SONS or their names are Mary or John which is an American Name. Just sharing History from my Father who is a British to her mother QUEEN ELIZABETH I DRUE of UK.

Thank you for taking the time to film this area. It is ashame that they moved those markers around, and didn't leave them where they were. Hopefully, they kept good records; so families doing research can find their Grave. Enjoyed the tour , Thank you 😊.

This was quite an adventure! The foliage was gorgeous and the weather looked perfect. Very atmospheric and beautiful place. Robert Birkett's gravesite was my favorite and Yikes! A Rat!! You were so calm about it lol. Too bad Little Grace wasn't out playing while you were there - maybe we'll see her if you go back to do a nighttime video.

Wow! What a hauntingly beautiful cemetery. Quite eerie, isn't it? Quite old, as well. And yes, that would be a good place for a night walk on Halloween or any night for that matter. I get the shivers just thinking about it.

Was here today, just recently moved back to the area. Lots of aggresion at home so felt at peace sitting amongst the departed. As the saying goes it's the living you need to be scared of not the dead. Nice video.

We have a Grace here in Savannah, Georgia. She is interred at the Bonaventure Cemetery along the coast. She died of a fever on Easter. And her grieving parents had a life sized replica of her carved of marble and place on her grave. She is fenced off and she has been heard laughing in the cemetery. Her statue is so life like. It must have cost thousands in the 1800's.
