Crazy.. I went to this location and swam in the river and I had absolutely no clue that there was an abandoned ghost town all around me. So cool, and I can’t wait to come back this summer and explore
I live not far from and have hiked and explored it.. Pretty cool step back into time. Theres alot of plates, and bottles, and the old bank vault is still there.
Hi Jenn! It was such a cool place to visit and I was thinking the same thing as you; what a cool step back in time! The vault is in this video too you can still see some of the ornate cast iron on the corners!
it is pretty neat a lot of history I was up there in the early 80's looking that all over myself the Bank safe is pretty neat I did scope that all out along with the old foundation of the mill.
Its amazing the things that become breadcrumbs of the past. I do a good amount of metal detecting and we find stuff often not valuable but interesting.
That is great! I have a metal detector and it has found stuff but I never have it when I'm at a cool spot. As you see in the video there are many building foundations to check through. I visited another ghost town called Hill, NH. I have video of that town but I haven't uploaded it yet. Its in winter so most stuff is covered with snow but in nice weather metal detecting there would be productive too!
I do a lot of exploring in the woods also i have found all kinds of places and saw mills ,where you made your video just down the road there is some old graves there you might like to go visit this old saw mill i found ,it was runing when i was a kid a lot of history .I just wanted to say to everybody to be careful on national forest they have a law that was put in 1972 no picking ,no metal detecting ,you cant disturb anything this is the truth i got caught a few years back and it cost me $500 .It's a crazy law but there very strick
Thanks for the comment and heads up for others Roland! It may save someone else's wallet in the future! I never saw and of the graves but there was a lot of stuff that was really overgrown so I'm sure there is much more than that that I missed. Now I live in the south so that area is too far away for me to check out anymore. There are supposed to be some other really neat areas that I hadn't been able to explore in the Pemi Wilderness also!
Thanks for replying Bob, I guess I should have been more specific. I'm actually a little surprised you don't know your own local history. The Hill you drive through is not the original town of Hill. My buddy in this video also lives in the new Hill. The original town was taken over by the state because the land was deemed necessary for flood control of the area. Many buildings were relocated to what you know of as Hill today. I recently moved and am living out of boxes in NC at my new place but I have a video I took of the old Hill and what's left. If everything wasn't covered with snow you'd see more of it.
