My Gr Aunt used to start her long trips to India from Melton station all the way By train ,
@Bernie705
Fantastic and absorbing video, well done James - all these places are familiar to the wife and I from our walks in Norfolk.

The train is seen travelling along a part of the original Lynn & Fakenham line into Kings lynn, This line from Gayton Rd to Austin St station in Kings lynn was built but very few trains used it and was abandoned in 1886, its believed that no passenger train ever used Austin St station, I have never seen any reference of trains from Fakenham running direct to Kings Lynn Town station, please correct me if l am wrong! From 1886 trains ran into South Lynn station sometimes called the Bawsey Loop to join up with the line from Spalding Holbeach & Sutton Bridge, Just one more small point soon after the train left Melton Constable it passed Pigs Grave summit were there was a over bridge and the line was in a cutting, This cutting was back filled in the late 1970s the train is seen at the present ground level! and there was a station at Gayton Rd not shown, please note these are not criticisms but mere observations.

Always wondered why the M&GN from Saxby junction in Leicester to Kings Lynn went to the Crewe of Norfolk instead of straight through to Norwich. An odd rail system was planned in Norfolk.
@IAmMisterTterevel
I saw Chris Eden-Green's documentary on the M&GN, pretty interesting.

Great video as always. You've covered my old line which closed the year i was born, '59. Comparing the journeys from recently to say 140 years ago, its interesting to see how little the field layouts have changed. Thanks and looking forward to the next.
