Ghostbusters 3: History of a cancelled sequel 

Let me get this straight, people are angry because: A dude saw a trailer he didn't like and decided to not watch the movie. Damn I've been doing this all my life, I'm a fucking monster.

If they rebooted it with a totally new all-male cast or a mixed cast I'm pretty sure everyone would be just as pissed off.

It would have been a better sequel then the reboot we're getting. Ghostbusters 2 is just so underrated. An underrated movie sequel and a fun one.

2009 would have been the perfect time to come out with GB 3, on the 25th anniversary of the original. Have all the original cast back. The 4 originals with Sigourney Weaver, Annie Potts and Rick Moranis. Oscar would been 25 yrs old, out of college, Venkman the estranged father figure in his life, Oscar becomes one of the Ghostbusters, Venkmam dies and becomes a wisecracking ghost. A lot of material to work with to make a great final chapter in the Ghostbusters trilogy. Sadly, wasn't meant to be.

According to leaked Sony emails, they basically blackmailed Murray to appear in it.

I just want to remind that the persons behind the two Ghostbusters movies, confirmed that Ghostbusters 3 is the Xbox 360 game.

Just looked this up, Dan Aykroyd stated that Ghostbusters video game is the 3rd movie. That confirms everything for me.

Harold Ramis is the genius behind the scripts of GB1 & 2, with Aykroyd. Those 2 created the alchemy that all we loved. RIP Ramis :(

I honestly think that this foul, disgusting reboot that they dare call Ghostbusters is also pretty stereotypical and sexist... Reason 1 - Kirsten Wiig's character clams herself to be the smartest scientist, however in the next scene, we see her UNABLE TO OPEN A GODAMN DOOR!! Reason 2: Leslie Jones' character is extremely stereotypical with her dialogue, always saying "Aw hell no!" and the joke she makes when nobody catches her off the music stage saying "I don't know if that was a race thing or a lady thing, but I'm mad as hell!" Ghostbusters is dead man...dead...

Well, there is a Ghostbusters 3 now. We had the 2 originals. the cartoons and now Afterlife... oh sorry, the cutscens from the Video Game as well.

One thing you didn't mention about why Ghostbusters 3 didn't happen was the ongoing feud between Bill Murray and Harold Ramis following their fallout after filming "Groundhog Day." Which is pretty much the saddest feud imaginable, considering all the incredible work they'd done together.

His idea of a movie ABOUT the attempts of making Ghostbusters III sounds like a better movie than the remake we are getting this year.

As a kid I loved GB2. As an adult I still find it enjoyable if you watch it without putting it on a pedestal it's a great movie in it's own right.

You gotta admire how James kept his opinion from this movie onto Afterlife. To the point where he never even touched the latter to not come off as a hypocrite. Which is kind of a shame I would like to know what James thought of the latest film. EDIT: Yes, I've seen the Afterlife review and its Great! Glad James came to discuss the film.

ghostbusters 3: Valve Steam Edition

The original 1984 Ghostbusters is heading back to the big screen im going to see that one but not the new one.

I wrote this in the video in James's last video and I thought it would be nice to say it again in here: The studio should of used Harold Ramis death's as the main story element for the third film. Like, it takes place years later and the group had a falling out after Ramis's death. Ramis was killed by a demon who took possesson of him during a mission at a rural New York farm. Thats when a relative of Ramis's character (daughter or son who is a lot like Ramis's character) went out through New York city to find Bill Murray (or the character's son), Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson to bring the team back together to fight against the demon that killed Harold Ramis. The demon wants to spread his possession powers to other humans as a way to take over the world so that satan can be brought onto earth. (demon or anti-christ as the villain.)

Whaa???!! People hated Ghostbusters 2? Damn, that film was one of the most entertaining films I saw as a kid. The idea of a painting coming to life still is creepy.

It wasn't just a matter of Aykroyd vs. Murray -- it was also a matter of Amy Pascal vs. Ivan Reitman... Amy Pascal wanted a younger director to do the next movie, and Reitman wanted to direct it himself. They also disagreed about the new cast. You can read about a lot of this in the leaked Sony emails.

I think it had more to do with the fallout between Harold Ramis and Bill Murray after Groundhog Day.

From what I recall, Murray hates doing sequels because he hates playing the same character twice, and he only agreed to do Ghostbusters 2 because they promised him it was going to be the last one.

The Hellbent script sounds like the movie length version of an episode of The Real Ghostbusters. The Ghostbusters ended up in an alternate Manhattan where they were the only non-ghosts, and that Manhattan's version of the Ghostbusters (the Peoplebusters) wanted to bust them. It's called Flip Side, I made Google prove to me I wasn't making this episode up.

If I was working on GhostBusters 3 and Bill Murray didn't want to do it I would have still went ahead with the project. Beginning with Pete's funeral (to explain why he is not in it) with the old cast of Ghostbusters after Pete had been killed in action during a Ghostbusters mission. This would make the old Ghostbusters think that they are getting too old for this so would attempt to recruit a new GhostBusters team. Although it would suck if they did kill off Bills character, it would be better than this shit that we are getting...

After hearing you're description, it saddens me that Ghostbusters 3 was never made. I think the concept of an alternate, hellish Manhattan is very interesting and would have made an awesome movie. Incidentally it reminds me of Earthbound where you travel to an alternate, extremely fucked up town of Fourside.

The part about the game being the unofficial 3rd movie reminds me how the Nightmare Before Christmas game is almost like an unofficial sequel to the original.

He didn't mean to stir up a shit storm. Anyone who followed AVGN knows that he has a long history of the Ghostbusters... reviewing all the games, still having all the toys, and, based on this video, was clearly following them every step of the way. He is a lover of films, and this is one of his favorites. Naturally, since he is such a huge fan of the franchise, when a new one is coming out, his fans were probably bombarding him with messages asking for a review. So, he made this video addressing it and his fans; simply saying, "This isn't Ghostbusters to me, I don't think it looks good based on the trailer(s), and so I am not going to go see it." He gives 0 fucks about the cast being women, but rather is upset that even though it's being called a remake it doesn't include any of the characters from the original, and he believes that it is the characters that make or break your story.
