I don't want to write an essay here in the comments but you really echoed nearly all my thoughts on this movie. Ghostbusters is my favorite movie and I was really hoping this would be better than Afterlife. It should have been considering it came back to NYC and the concept of a frozen Manhattan in summer is really interesting. But the background of the writer and director is more horror (bad horror at that) and I didn't think they even tried to be funny. It was fun seeing the old cast but there's just too many characters. The majority of them are not interesting aside from Phoebe, her mom, Paul Rudd's character. The plot of sidelining Phoebe and her friendship with that girl ghost was a baffling choice to me for the overall plot. The resolution at the end made no sense. And maybe the point I agreed with you the most on is the cops' reaction to the Ecto-1 going by. In Afterlife it's established that the events of the movies are long forgotten, even considered a conspiracy theory. But in this movie without any back story or screen time suddenly the Ghostbusters are back up and running, the city is aware of ghosts and hauntings and seen as routine, and lastly - somehow Walter Peck is the mayor without explanation and honestly just doesn't seem upset enough that the Ghostbusters are back. The whole movie is just going through the motions and I'm sure this will be the last one now. I am assuming that they had to skip a couple of years of story to explain why the kids are all so much older looking now. It just didn't work. Whoops I did write an essay lol. Sorry.

Just a heads up, that wasn't a "friendship" Phoebe had with the ghost. McKenna Grace confirmed in an interview she did that it was a gay relationship. The interviewer said, "I see that Phoebe now has a girlfriend" and McKenna, replied "yes". That ruined the entire movie for me along with the bloated cast. Too many people to try to keep up with and shoehorning DEI crap to push an agenda. I loved Afterlife and wanted this to be a great follow up, but it was so poorly done. Just my 2 cents on all of it. Also my love for Ghostbusters goes all the way back to 1984 when I saw it in the theater. It was the very first move I ever saw in the theater and I was terrified LOL. I was 5 at the time.

@@EDFCentral that’s awesome you saw it in the theater! I didn’t see it on the big screen until the 25th or 30th anniversary, I can’t remember which

@@SpyderDan1985 I was absolutely terrified at the time. Pinocchio had re-released at the same time and I really wanted to see that as a 5 year old, but Dad wanted to see Ghostbusters. I sat there with my hands over my face the majority of the movie. I remember the terror dog in the fridge horrifying me. I had no idea it was a comedy at the time. All I saw was the scary monsters and I was legit scared. Afterward, Dad talked the usher into letting me peak in on Pinocchio and he opened the door for a moment and let me watch it for a sec. Now I love the GB franchise with the exception of what I mentioned. 45 years old and I still watch The Real Ghostbusters with my son. Good times.

@@EDFCentral that's funny, I can’t even remember the first time I saw it but I must have been small. I got into RGB first as a little kid and then saw the movie so around that same time I think. Certainly many scenes scared but I liked the rest of it even though a lot of the humor went over my head I’m sure.

@@SpyderDan1985 It was the real ghostbusters that made me a fan for sure. I had the toys, the wearable proton pack. I remember as a kid wishing gbs was real lol.

My take Christiangeekcentral. GHOSTBUSTERS (1984) 10/10 , GB 2 (1989) 5/10 , RGB (1986-90) 10/10 , WOKE (2016) zero! , AFTERLIFE (2021) 10/10 ✝, FROZEN EMPIRE (2024) 8/10 . The way I see it is that FROZEN EMPIRE was a nice curtain call.
