How to install new Stern Ghostbusters Pinball Inner art blades with art by Zombie Yeti. I have never installed inner art blades or pinblades on a pinball machine - can I do it? In this video I will show you how I installed Inner Art Blades on a Stern Ghostbusters pinball machine. I did not remove the playfield. Was this wrong? I don't know. This was really hard to do but ultimately worth it as the end result was awesome. Stern sells the inner artwork for the Ghostbusters Pinball Machine for $75. Worth it? I kind of think so. Looks really awesome!
From the manufacturer:
P36 Ghostbusters Art Blades
Easy to install custom-designed, artistic inside-panels by famed artist Zombie Yeti that add dimension to the pinball playfield area. Fits Pro, Premium, and Limited Edition Models.

For the amount of money Stern is charging, that play field side artwork should be included as standard not as an option! great job John, looks awesome.

What i did to install my side art, was slide the front of the playfield onto the front of the cabinet, and then raise the rear of the playfield and added a 2x4 piece of wood to hold the rear up. That gets the playfield out of the way completely. Either way, congrats on the install, it looks great.

You had a lot of patience there John.. I don't think there were an easy way to do it apart from it being applied in the factory before the play field. Difference is mate, you don't mind the viewers seeing the ups and downs along with your decision making process and I like that about the vids. Most other vids would cut the shit out of it to make it look like they knew how to do it 100% start to finish.

Did this for TSPP. Had to put the front supports on the lock bar rail. Then I found a scrap piece of wood about 3 feet long(think like a 1 x 2). I used that to prop up the back end of the table while I applied the decals. So essentially, the entire playfield "levitated" above the box. It was still a little precarious but it allowed me to work unimpeded. I have kept that piece of scrap wood just in case I attempt on other machines.

Fantastic job on your ghostbuster pinball !! Man to do it by yourself alone how hard ! ! I saw two People to do it took them around 10 mns one was lifting and turning the playfield while the other was applying the art work. .

John, I've been following this channel for a few years.... and I have to say... you are damn funny when your stressed out! And I wasn't laughing at you, I was laughing with you. A local Tilt Studio(similar to D&B and Gameworks) opened up near me a couple weeks ago here in Phoenix, AZ. I decided to check it out and they actually have a respectable pinball collection. They had a Ghostbusters!!! After watching these vids, I was really anxious to try it. WOW, this pin is fantastic. I am really enjoying this!!! I haven't gotten into some of the recent stern pins over the last couple years. But watching your vids, I gave it a shot. The game is great!!! And holy crap those LED's pop! Your inner side art really does make the game look more complete , as this one did not have it. Either way, I am now jelly that you own a Ghostbusters, since now that I know it's completely awesome!!!! Can't wait to see more. Keep up the awesome work, John!

You can pull it back up without damaging it if you need to move it and bubble's aren't an issue. After you do 2 or 3 it gets easier:) And having a helper is a plus. After the first time i had a friend hold the playfield vertically, pealed ALL of the wax paper off, slid it back and forth into place and stuck it down. Once or twice i had to pull it up to re-possition it but it wasn't a big deal.

I didn't remove my playfield either. I didn't want to mess with all the wire ties. I taped mine down like you usually do with sideart and started from the midpoint moving towards the front. Then I did a little more of the middle around the playfield. It was rough!

I just went through this with the newer Elvira machine, and like this guys table, there is a cat5 cable that keeps you from easily removing the playfield. It sucks. I hated the process. The end result does look great but its very very hard to get the blades as perfectly placed as youd like them to be. Id highly recommend getting a bottle of rapid tac to help because it really helps with pulling the blades off and resetting them easily..and if youre like me youll need to reset them several times during this process.

The inner artwork blades on the sides look great on the Ghostbusters pin. They are a natural continuation of the artwork in the back, everything matches great. Compared to what you have now, the pin without the blades looks boring and naked. Great job, it was worth the effort!

Turned the playfield on its side, carefully as to not damage any assemblies. It clears the whole rail to install those set blades. I’d post a pic, but can’t do that on RU-vid.

Soul Calibur 2 is a Namco 246. It can get power off the JAMMA harness when used with the Namco 256 JVS/JAMMA adapter. Though, I recommend hacking up a AT/ATX power supply. My setup uses a JVS style power supply with a JVS adapter cable made for the Namco 246.

I wonder if you could have aligned the artwork, then masking taped it along the bottom to hold it in place, then started by sticking down the front. From there you could work backwards pulling the backing off and out upwards? Either way, great job!

Love me some N64. I actually agree with you John, i played a lot of the 2600, NES, SNES, Genesis, Sega CD, and 32x as a kid but I didn't get sucked in deep until the n64 and the PSone. Mario 64, Mario Kart, both Zeldas, Goldeneye, Kirby, Banjo, Bomberman, Waverace and the THQ wrestling games. As far as PSone goes; Final Fantasy VII ia what made me need it and games like resident evil, spyro, crash, tomb raider, metal gear solid, and others are what kept me playing on that console. I loved the early 3d era of console gaming.

You really should have removed the playfield. Anyway, looks great. You should get some 3D buildings as well. And nice to hear that Stern gave you a bro price on a topper. But as you basically showcasing the pin on your channel, they should hook you up for free with all the official mods. Your pin really looks like it should have out of the box. And if you plan to work more on it, you should do some work on the mechanism holding the playfield. It's really crappy on the Sterns compared to old Willans. Especially given that you have a pro on which maintenance is more likely to happen when it's on location - sure not the case for you. But really, it's crappy. Best Pin Stern made in a very very long time.

Outside of saying that you should have had a friend visit before doing this, I really have no idea how to apply those. And, got to admit, looking at that play field being tilted up so high, was as scary to watch as any old horror film...just waiting for the *crash*, *bang* and *crack* as that whole field goes to pieces...

This was very entertaining and worrying to watch :) Maybe because I know how tricky modding can be. The Stern hardware is a bit of a let down to be honest. For instance, its very easy to pull the playfield too far back making the entire playfield drop down into the cabinet. Did that on my Star Trek Pro and scratched my mirror blades :( Your Ghostbusters looks awesome with the new pinblades!

The playfield has just 3 cables running out that you can unplug. I got my art blades yesterday and lifting the playfield out it was no problem at all. - The PROBLEM WAS lifting it, because it's kinda heavy. ;)
@Johnsarcade
@Johnsarcade 8 лет назад
+DSNadine where did you unplug the new node board cable?
@DSNadine
@DSNadine 8 лет назад
That's the trickies one of course but not hard. Unplug the Network cable on the node board. It's just wound through/ twisted aroud the other cables and hold with 1 cable tie at the bottom when it meets the other both. - So yes, you have to cut one cable tie.
@DSNadine
@DSNadine 8 лет назад
But still, compared to an old machine... :D
@Johnsarcade
@Johnsarcade 8 лет назад
That's what I got hung up on. That node cable just disappeared into the bundle of wires. I really don't think it's one cable tie. I really did study it. Either way.... I would do it my way again. Next time I would know how to handle the position of the playfield better.. The second side went 5x faster then the first. If I did this again it would be even that much faster.
@DSNadine
@DSNadine 8 лет назад
Well it was just 1 tie here. But that's not neccessarily meaning that always the case, of course.

Just my 2 cents, you should have removed the playfield, and you should have not cut the paper backing from the overlays, all you had to do was angle it down at about a 45-degree angle, and you would have been able to slowly pull it off, while using the clamps to hold everything in the place.
@Johnsarcade
@Johnsarcade 8 лет назад
I've applied a lot of artwork on arcade games and I always cut the paper. works great for me. That way you can get it set in the right spot then continue. Removing the playfield is not trivial. I really didn't want to undo the factory cable ties and bundles. it wasn't just unplugging a couple of plugs. Appreciate the comment. :)

+John's Arcade Game Reviews & Tech Believe me, I know the pain of applying overlays and removing playfields, I used to have an arcade business back in the mid-nineties, and I also worked as a technician at an arcade in Tampa, Florida, which had over 200 games, after I sold my business, and believe you me, I learned all the tricks on how to put down overlays and side art without making your life overly complicated. As for the playfield, it looks like the cables had enough slack, where you could have lifted up the playfield off of the rails, turned it 90 degrees clockwise once it was standing straight up, and set it right down in the bottom of the pinball cabinet, which would have given you a lot more access to the inside, where you are applying the side art. Keep up the good work, and I hope you have a great holiday weekend!

Hi John, cool video as usual. I've got my own channel on RU-vid, check it out if you get a chance. Was wondering when you transfer your finished videos what setting do you use? I also shoot at 1080p 60fps, using my GoPro combo. I normally transfer my finished videos to be viewed on hd tvs, pc's at 30fps.
