Wonderful storytelling............My Edinburgh Granny was a feisty, no-nonsense wee woman who brought up 4 boys and my mother, through the Depression. She had a holiday on Skye in the early 50's and had a paranormal experience on the Island. She refused to ever talk about it, except once, to my mother. That rather indicates it was very real to her. My mother thought I would be mocking, so also refused to talk about it. What did Granny see?

I stayed up there in a cottage for a week in Kilmaluag Bay in the mid-nineties. It's an incredible island. The best thing apart from the scenery of the island was the absence of artificial light and one night experienced a sky full of stars unlike anything I had seen before or since. I didn't witness any frightening apparitions, apart from my own hungover, pale face in the mirror after one too many at a Ceilidh in Portree.😊

My understanding of the ghost car is that a Minister was driving his 1934 Austin Ten down to one of the old, turntable ferries. However, the brakes failed and the car went through the chains at the end of the ferry and into the water. Despite the best efforts of the ferry crew, they could not break the car windows and the passengers in the car drowned. The Minister was the sole survivor, but suffered a nervous breakdown shortly afterwards. The car was once spotted and then chased by a policeman in his patrol car, but disappeared. I also understand there is a second ghost car, although this takes the form of an old fashioned hearse, bright lit from within and seen moving along the shoreline. There was a very good documentary about the ghosts on Skye which was produced for BBC Scotland's Alba (Gaelic) service.

A poetic tribute to the history of the Isle of Skye. I can't help but wonder where the Austin came from. Someone must know, but carried it to their grave. Something occurred that locked the urgency of the racing car to the island.

Another great history Lesson, but with regards to the "Wee black car of Skye" as its commonly known, Neil Oliver has recently written a book about UK Ghosts called "Hauntings: A Book of Ghosts and Where to find them" In which he talks about the wee black car of Skye, its actually one of the strangest Ghosts stories, Apparently the first sightings were in the 1930's and practically Everyone on the island had witnessed it multiple times, along with thousands of visitors to the island. These sighting persisted until the 1960's when there was a tragic accident involving a minister who was driving a small black Austin ten onto the ferry for two women and a child, his foot slipped on the accelerator and the car plunged into the sea, and the two women and the child tragically drowned. Since that day they were no more sightings of the wee black car of Skye. so weirdly it was a Ghost sighting in reverse, where the ghost was seen years before the tragic event and no a single sighting after, a collective premonition if you will. Makes you think what are ghosts and what indeed is the nature of time ????

There's a variant of the phantom Austin on another site, which claims that it was a 'portent', of a tragedy in the 1960s or 70s, when a veteran Austin somehow ran off the end of the island ferry, and the people in it were drowned. Seems off if such a 'portent' should show up thirty years in advance. Incidentally, its not surprising the good doctor was surprised - there wouldn't be very many cars on the island back then, and petrol was all but unobtainable, save for reserved occupations such as his.

@borderlands6606
@borderlands6606 5 месяцев назад
The story has a number of iterations. A popular one is that a "wee car", something like an Austin A35 from the description, had been seen by various islanders and visitors. Noting the car heading towards them on a single track road, they would pull into a passing point only for the car to never reappear. In the 1960s a minister of the church offered to take the lady driving such a small car onto the ferry, as she was unfamiliar with boarding. He overshot the ramp, driving into the sea. The minister was the only survivor of the party of 3 or 4 (depending on the account, which includes a child), after which the wee car was never seen again. First hand accounts of the phantom car are available on RU-vid: The Haunted Hebrides - the Ghost Car of Skye on Green M channel.

The ground around where the house stood had dozens of whole animal bones. 😈😃😇

Such an incredibly scary video. I just took a birthday trip to Skye. It is a dream destination. Didn’t see any ghosts unfortunately just saw loads of natural beauty!
