Ghosts N' Goblins is considered one of the most difficult games ever created.
This demonstration / walkthrough was made for those who have always wanted to beat the game but never have been able to. Settings are typical to the standard setup found in arcades back in the 80's.
Entire game in this demonstration is played without the usage of game glitches and/or exploits. Enjoy!

To rapid fire, tap in the direction at the same time as when you press the fire button. So, to fire 3 in a row very quickly, you'll need to tap 3x in the direction + 3x fire button. Highly effective for monsters that require multiple shots. Red Arremers all have the same pattern. At 43:25, while I lost this battle, you can see it's pattern. Wait until they've landed and charge at you, then rapid fire them. If they're in the air and fly at you, run opposite direction and turn back to shoot once.

When I started playing I had no idea of the games reputation for being so difficult. I just thought I was rusty at platformers, so I gritted my teeth and put on my war face. It was only after searching for tips to kill the red arremer I realised it wasn't me it's the game. I'll try it the hard way for now and then come back when I fail miserably. Thanks again.

Awesome! Judging from the little bit of the video I saw, that was a masterful performance. I'm trying to beat this game myself. I'd rather do it without external help, though.

Woooooh. ... I've been at level 6. But never got further and I spent countless hours trying to get further .. NOW. Your telling me .. it goes around at least another 2 times 😳😳

there is a thing called D-time in the arcade version , basically , on the first level where you shoot the tombstones to make the wizard appear , but you do this i think @ about 0.07 seconds left. what happens is , you turn into a frog at the same time you were meant to die from time up , and basically you dont die , you can stay killing the zombies to rack up a high score , it worked on old arcade machine

Thanks very much, that will help me a lot. I always found I had to give my self a fair amount of space when dealing with the big men. I've not watched the whole vid, I'm hoping to complete it myself (although I cheated a bit and watched how you took out the dragon). You also played the first level drastically differently to me. I didn't even realise there were magicians in this game until watching this.

I built my own arcade machine so I could play and beat this game, gonna have a lot of hours playing to do. Your skills are amazing, this is one super tough game

Yes, it's the arcade version. MAME32 is the emulator. It looks better and more colourful because the ones in the arcades always had hazy/foggy glass lol

Well, there's two ways to learn how to play the game. The hard way (by dying way too many times), or watch over someone's shoulder / video. I did the latter, way back then, up until the end of Stage 3, then had to learn the rest on my own because I didn't know of anyone else who can pass Stage 3! Imagine how many quarters I had to go through at that time! lol ;) Enjoy the game; I can tell you that it is extremely satisfying once you beat this game. :D

@toykobassist: thanks for your comments. I'm not sure what you're referring to regarding exploits on the first level. The only one I'm aware of is the time exploit. You'll need to enlighten me.

Sc0pee He says I used an exploit in the first level, and I said that I didn't. So I have no idea what he is referring to. Like I said, the only exploit I'm aware of on the very first level is the time exploit where you turn the gravestone into the Magician within expiry of your time. The Magician casts his spell and hurls it to you as time expires, when your body turns into a pile of bones. The spell hits your bones and you get revived into a botched up 1/2 frog and 1/2 Arthur, and then you get unlimited time to do whatever you want. So as you can see, I did not use an exploit, and if there is another one, I'm not aware of it.

Can anyone help me find a classic game? It was about two bald babies (2 player side scroller) and they looked like Phil and LIL deville from the Rugrats. One of them wears a red babygrow and the other i think wears blue? And they go round shooting bubbles at enemies, theres many stages with lava underneath, buses coming their way and they jump over street lamps and fight chinese dragons etc?????)

I'd say Ghost N Goblins shares hardest game honors with 2 other Capcom titles, Trojan and Tiger Road. Both have never ending swarms of enemies that spawn and come after you, and Tiger Road even has a boss that can kill you in a hit (actually a couple of the bosses can do this). The game also has upward scrolling areas that forces you to navigate spikes all while dodging dragons. I believe all 3 run off the same hardware as GnG too.

When I tap the fire button fast he doesn't actually throw stuff faster so I have to slow it down to keep groups of three. How come this doesn't happen to you? Also any tips for the red arremers? They are driving me nuts. They just don't seem to have a pattern. On stage 3 I can consistently kill 3 of them but once they are actually in flight and actively avoiding fire I can't find a decent technique. The one before the dragon always takes my armour or kills me.

Sos un genio. ESE video fue para mi la entrada a las ligas mayores de los arcade y nunca pude progresar. Antes los juegos te hacian ser mas rapido e inteligente,hoy en los juegos actuales casi no tenes chances de morir y si lo haces quedas en el mismo lugar y no tenes que recomenzar toda la pantalla como lo eran los de antes.

So on the link just klick on "[Magnet link]" with blue letters and it will start downloading. The speed was pretty slow, but it's worth to wait for something precious. I hope you can handple up :)
