Ghoul Catchers was quietly removed from the app stores a couple of years ago before they relaunched it. It still gave me my neopoint prizes during the period it was not downloadable then, so I interpreted the "still playable" phrasing in the news to mean this would still be the case this time. Crossover Week in Legends and Letters, as I understand, is an automatic script so if Ghoul Catchers continues to work the Legends and Letters prizes will probably continue to be obtainable, as well. Unfortunately, as of writing this, those prizes are still no trade, though many of us are petitioning for that to change.
I downloaded L&Ls again last month and it is SOOO much better than what it was like when it first came out. I've really been loving playing it for my "chill" time. I'm disappointed it's getting removed. :(
The most important question I have about the retiring apps is will we still have a 'crossover week' with Legends & Letters, and will the milestone prizes still be awarded from Ghoul Catchers after the apps are removed?
It's early to say, but last time Ghoul Catchers was removed prizes were still obtainable. Crossover Week happens automatically, so if the servers stay up it should still happen!
I think they are removing the apps because they don't have enough team to manage all three app games plus the site mobile conversion. (The new app game is being developed in their headquarters in Vancouver, but GC and L&L were run by the team in California - the site conversion team.) Maybe one day they will relaunch the retired apps, as they did with Ghoul Catchers once before, after the site conversion? (Neopia can only hope. I personally would rather they focus on converting Flash games to HTML5 than focus on app games right now, if they cannot manage both at the same time.) :)
