Winless in six previous trips to the finals, Deshaun Watson finally led Gainesville to the promised land. The junior QB accounted for five TD’s and more than 400 total yards to lead Gainesville to a 49-13 win over Ware County in the Class 5A championship game. Watson threw three scoring passes, two to Caleb Hayman, to give him 50 for the year. His two TD runs gave him 24 for the season. Watson completed 28 of 36 passes for 324 yards and ran 14 times for 90 yards. Gainesville scored at least 40 points in all except one of its five playoff victories and went over 60 twice. Red Elephant DB Fred Payne had a 34-yard scoop and score to lead the defense.
