ive been smoking on a semi consistent basis for 5 years. This last year ive been having severe stomach cramps and bloating where i can barely eat sometimes because my stomach feels so full and it literally sticks out. I have lost about 20 pounds these last 6 months without exercising. I also get random pains that move around (what i think is) the digestive system. it feels like im getting pinched on the inside by my waistline, I dont wear tight pants anymore. I also notice it slows down everything. food doesnt move as fast as it should and the bowel movements well, when i look, doesn't look normal. MJ has been good for me with dealing with back pain from a bad disc as well as anxiety so having these problems really sucks. These last few weeks of quitting and testing theories by myself im starting to think its the MJ. I was checking for food allergies (thinking its dairy) but after not smoking, then restarting the process, I literally feel bloating come back in real time, my stomach has constant burbling, and the digestion of food slow down A LOT. I have read about that one Mj illness people have but I do not vomit and hot showers do not relieve the bloating. I am having a hard time finding people with similar issues. All i find online is that it cures the symptoms I have, and not causes them.
I have a bit of high functioning Autism (Aspergers Syndrome) and I'm an Army veteran. You need a waiver to get into the Army with that and you must have something they want to make adjustments to training, etc. Anyway, I used to have sores in my mouth as a little kid and I've been on one stomach medication or another all my life. The VA at one time told me to drink a little brandy before bed and I've got the bleeding stomach photos to prove that. So when a VA doc told me that my stomach problems are caused by marijuana, I just laughed at them. Sometimes at night, not even the pills they give me work for the stomach. So I smoke a joint, throw up a bit and feel much better. I've had stomach problems for decades. Now I film and edit for a small video production studio in the Missouri Ozarks and it's peaceful. If there is a stomach issue going around, it's not from American legally grown marijuana.
Thanks so much for talking about CHS.... A lot of people i tell about it think im lying or exaggerating. I have it and it is awful. I've had an episode last 4 weeks once. I still have some trouble with it even though i quit smoking weed. Really wish i could afford a gastro doc, I'd request you for sure!!
@@wazzupidaug5 I have been dealing with what sounds like exactly the same issues for about five years now. It pains me greatly to have to come to the conclusion that it may be m.j. I truly love cannabis and have been a cannabis consumer for most of my life. I'm curious to know if you have stopped smoking and how your stomach is now
I appreciate your non judgmental approach. This was very informative. It’s good to know that I’m not suffering alone. I have these flare ups when it starts to get cold. And I’m just in pain, marijuana calms my anxiety when I’m physically in distress. But it also calms my pain receptors down so I don’t feel it as much. It helps me sleep and most of all, it gives me an appetite. I’ve noticed as I get older, I cannot smoke too much in one setting or I get anxious.
@@buttheadmcge9400 im battling this exact thing.. I have ibs and it helps for the most part but then again sometimes ill get a different strain and ill being to have panic attacks and that almost always leads me to having stomach issues. 😪 I just wanna feel the way I did when I was a teenager.. now I'm a ghost of my former self because of this bullshit going on with me.. keep fighting bro, this isn't the end for us!!
It definitely helps me eat and helps with morning nausea. But I do notice if I do it too much I end up getting lazy and anxious. So everything in moderation is always a good way to think.
@@AustinChiangMD Hello Doc. I suffered Gastritis last year for a few months & the Endoscopy showed minor Inflammation on my stomach & since Gastritis cured now whenever I smoke the weed i get this burning Acidic pain under Right Rib. I smoke Cigarettes aswel & its Normal but when I smoke weed the Burning pain under Right Rib comes. If I Detoxify for a few months will help? Thank you👍
I totally agree short term it was helping a lot but now that I’ve became dependent on it the withdrawals makes me eat once a day, insomnia, and nauseous. A couple months ago i got really sick and the drs thought it was gastritis but now I honestly think it was cannabinoid hyperemises syndrome (CHS) often caused by pods/cartridges.
I have the dreadful IBS and I smoke marijuana when I have a flare up and it actually helps quite a bit. Marijuana is just a natural medicine that has alot of benefits in my eyes.
For me I noticed whenever I heavy smoke marijuana, my IBS actually starts to flare up and I get really bad tenesmus which is dreadful to have and I wouldn’t wish it on anybody. However when I do it in moderation it seems to help. I realized when I stop smoking after heavy smoking for a month or two i start getting night sweats and soak my bed like every night for a week and have really bad insomnia. But once I am clean and start eating normally, don’t get the munchies etc... I start to feel better again and my IBS goes away. However, there are also other factors involved, like when I smoke I tend to eat more, maybe I am not consuming enough water to counter act the weed smoke. I’m really not sure, just thought I would share and see what others think...
I get the same symptom after smoking I get tenesmus now it made me so conscious about my gut and colon health…I stopped smoking and idk if it’s working or not my question is did you ever find out if it was Chs or something else?
Yeah, from what I know and experience, I think weed can be really bad for your gut. They call it CHS but I think it’s more than that. I’ve been calling it Cannibis Gut
I have bn smoking weed 20 years!! Got ulcers years ago and gastritis!! Only time I get symptoms now is when I smoke weed!! Pain in the chest and burping! I think whatever to they grow the weed with or something they spray might be fucking us up
Marijuana helps with stomach/colon cramping when you feel knives in your gut. It’s really good at stopping that and slowing your intestines down. For me personally though I think marijuana has made it worse. We know THC slows gastric emptying- do you think that would have any impact on gut health when the body isn’t in its own natural rhythm?
Of course 80 plus percent of GI issues can be managed with a detailed consistent diet. THC calms my stomach and slightly slows my GI motility but it does not increase my appetite.
So frustrating on the Crohn’s and UC support groups. Have you tried marijuana? last time someone give me something with marijuana in I ended up in A fib. Also frustrating with not being able to tolerate many fruits and vegetables. So many people pushing vegetarian and vegan diets. I will die.
Iv been dealing with gastritis lately at least thats what i think it is and i noticed once smoke it goes away for a few and i getthe chnace to finally ea something, but i dont wanna depend on it to stop my abdominal pain everytime, somtimes it doesnt help bring back my apatite just numb my stomach pain for awhile so i can eat and my stomch acid stop trying to kill me
I don’t got ibd but I have ibs and its the only thing that helps me I be feeling like I’m dying until I smoke then acouple mins later I feel so much better and I get a appetite
thats me bud. I started smoking for fun in hs then i stopped and started again because it would help me eat but then when i would take a tolerance break i would get really sick. That means if you ain’t smoking you’re getting withdrawals. I still smoke. But rn im on day 1 of a break lets see how it goes ! My last break lasted 3 months between October 2020 - January 2021
I’ve recently been diagnosed with GERD and was wondering if edibles, which I take regularly for anxiety and insomnia, would negatively effect my digestion and acid reflux?
I had a check for hernia and felt sick for weeks afterwards, I hadn't used my medical cannabis for a few weeks because I was trying to get a bit of work and I get drug tested, but I used it and after 2 days I felt better.
Don't know how I got here but you are soooo funny . The 👀 Was hilarious . Very informative. I stared smoking weed a year ago. I weight 120. I have lost so much weight. I'm 107 lbs.🤔🤷
@@rpdube1 damn consider yourself lucky.. I got ibs and it only affect my stomach badly, for like 2-4 days straight. I wouldn’t wish this on my worse enemy (the pain)
I was an opiate addict for 33 years I was on methadone 1 year ago I was 300 lb and dying a slow death from methadone addiction. Now after eating marijuana for over a year i stepped away from my methadone clinic at 38mg because i was spitting out half or more and they wouldn't take me down quicker so finally i just kept my last sunday and split it into 5 and tapered myself the final week and its been 2 weeks now now i have no issues and am now actually starting to eat far less mery jane. Is food for the soul. Dont smoke it- you eat it It gives you bowels of iron- I will not va kzine either. I know exactly what that point is.
I just bought a volcano vaporizer and I have overdone it my stomach hurts and I have had bad diarrhea for all day. Vaporizing too much marijuana I did not know it would be bad I should have but I’m only 50 years old.lol
Im having an odd issue with my guts and cannabis use. I started smoking out of a bong regularly in 2013 and until 2021 I had no issues. Since then, I am finding that I am nauseous and throwing up most mornings. Back in April I stopped using a bong- and I stopped being sick 24/7, I was able to eat full meals and not feel full to the point of being sick- and I actually was able to gain weight. In the last 3 months I started using a bong again, and Im once again- sick all the time. And I’ve lost 10lbs, Im feeling nauseous and throwing up 4-5 times a week. Im also a type 1 diabetic for the last 25 years (im 28) Please help
I'm currently a 15 year Marijuana user and have been in-between a IBS diagnosed and some doctors saying its CHS . Yes hot showers do help lol so I quit smoking and things stay the same at times worsen . My Dr says it's CHS and my GI says it's IBS
Any current updates? I’ve been told the same thing. How is your health now? Do you get pain on the left side of your ribs? I usually get pain the moment I smoke a joint. Do you experience the same thing?
@@Mercado_Muscle im.now a bit over 60 days sober and I must say that quitting weed in every form down to cbd has made my life and health better . The ibs was also a factor . Your a SWEETHEART❤ DOCTOR❤!! Marijuana helps me to eat and sleep when nothing else does! If I'm sick or nauseous it's a fixer upper to! ❤ So my question is when I'm out of marijuana my stomach hurts aches and I have zero appetite! Soon as I do I am okay! I sort of bark when i puke(scromitting). i use omnaris ciclesonide nasal spray it helps a lot. i think a hot shower helps cure just about any woe, but NOT nausea, i havent been able to take hot showers since i had shingles 5yrs ago anyways. Interesting how a treatment for nerve damage due to shingles AND chs can both be treated with capsaicin heat?

Hi Austin. What are your thoughts surrounding MC for Autoimmune Hepatitis and UC? Seems like two separate approaches - natural immune and inflammation modulation, versus steroids and immune suppression drugs. But are they safe together? Thanks
I have no appetite when sober. I have chronic constipation and I’ve been diagnosed with IBS but need to take stool softeners daily to be able to poop at all. Is this normal? If I take no pills and eat a decent diet I will not poop. Does weed hurt or help ppl with IBS?
Its bad. I have IBS, I tried using marijuana for a few months and at first it was fine though I drank more water and it still lead to worse constipation and the munchies which may defer you from your diet. Then I had to withdraw. The weed today is very strong and it has a really bad withdraw but for some reason nobody talks about it.
@@shriverfam230 There is no such thing as THC withdrawal lmao. Thinking that your experience will be universal along with not even knowing the word "withdrawal" from "withdraw" shows a whole lot about how little you know on the subject.
@@Hoss_Delgado977 actually there is withdraw. one can look forward to insomnia depression anxiety weight loss vomiting and upset stumache. With concentrates it's even worse. Godbless
Alcohol caused my IBS ie mild coilitis and also hyperactive acid pump in stomach. I found pot helped symptoms and pain, however, stopping alcohol.!... helped my conditions along with Pot. figure that one out. Healthy today alcohol free but Pot is my medicine it works.
i love smoking weed on a full stomach, i want to know the reason behind the relief and sensation that it gives. someone mentioned that when youre digesting food and smoke you wont get as high because the blood is going to your stomach
I was over 300lbs and diabetic when I started MMJ. In about a year, I lost @ 100lbs and reversed diabetes. I have struggled my whole life with weight. After starting MJ, the weight loss was almost effortless. It did help my pain which helped me move more.
@@lwilliams2k7 Hard to say. When I started I didn't know some strains were better for weightloss than others,. I have done many but haven't kept track. That said Cherry pie is one I remember getting frequently and have seen on a list of known strains that help aid weightloss. Regardless of strain though, it is a supportive tool that has aided in lifestyle changes. Happiness burns more calories than depression. I smoke it to help me get past those little anxieties that keep me stuck. I smoke before exercise so it's easier on my joints and then I can do a bit more. I actually think edibles may be more effective on pain than smoking, but I haven't had the ability to really test that out. Also when I started smoking, I stopped drinking and started sleeping better. Setting intentions and using it as a tool towards a healthier life.
I’ve found it to be the most effective antiemetic for me. Unfortunately, 5 different classes of prescription medicines failed totally. Also, I found the topical capsaicin treatment for the hyperemesis syndrome pretty fascinating too- what say you ? :)
Very informative. I have IBD, Ulcerative Colitis. I have seen patients on a group share how they use CBD or marijuana. I have never been a fan of it. I never used it. I agree that it may be masking pain because of the high from it, but it does not cure the inflammation or scar tissue from years of ulceration. I liked your information on this.
Neither do most drugs in fact i dont know of any that heal scar tissue so why compare it that way? Also the other drugs do not cure inflammation they suppress the immune response, cannabis does the same thing although in a slightly different way. I have had crohns disease for 10 years and have tried all the meds and can say for sure that Cannabis has beneficial effects for ibd and pain relief 100% but in moderation and maybe it needs to be made more targeted to get just the benefits it has as there are so many compounds amongst THC CBD that do different things i mean look at the endocannabinoid system we all have in our bodies and what happens when that is out of balance, that is where the CBD receptors are and also along the gut. Its not about if the science is there just needs fine tuning imo
I suffer from Central Sentization Syndrome and have been using medical marijuana products for many years now ..and find it has really helped me overall but, I'm tired of being wasted all of the time just to keep my severe, widespread nerve pain and associated chronic illness issues under control. Because my illness increases all of the bodies senses, I find it can also on occasion, make my pain worse, much worse, although only temporarily so far. Although, I have really been experiencing extreme gastrointestinal issues since starting the use medical thc vape pens though. It seems to me that it sets off a flare up of all of my symptoms in my body, which I'm finding only exasperates my health issues further. Even the medical oils I use are putting my digestive tract through hell. Thinking to quit altogether honestly but, super concerned about what I'm going to do for my pain, doctors only prescribe antidepressants for pain these days, which do help a little though, good luck getting off Lyrica after using it since I got sick in 2015 though, I've tried it's Impossible! Serious brain zaps and serious itching just to name a few of the symptoms when I tried to come off Lyrica. Still using Lyrica but much less of a dose. Thanks for your video, very informative! Hope my feedback helps others to decide whether it may be right for you 😀 Cheers! Neal Vancouver Canada 🇨🇦
I have esophagitis, hiatal hernia, and GERD… I’ve been an every day smoker for many years. When symptoms don’t allow me to eat, cannabis is the only thing that helps with appetite. It eases the burning pain, but it doesn’t always go away. I’ve now developed major anxiety, to the point where I don’t travel or like to leave my home for events due to my gastrointestinal issues. If I don’t smoke, I can’t eat. =\ pros and cons
