Yeah absolutely. I was thinking of giving it attach points. Sort of hint that is was prefab and it could be airlifted to where ever in the world it was needed. Then camoed up to match the terrain like you suggest. I think your comment has sparked a new project! Thanks for the comment and for watching.
@@ActionRobotPunch I'm envisioning it to be more of an entry point to and underground facility much like the sheild generator bunker in ROTJ. I like your idea of a small portable unit that can be dropped in different environments and be used for outposts or communications.
Looking at it I imagine that tower is just a periscope-like extension from a larger base or vehicle beneath the ice. Cool idea for a simple but atmospheric addition to the Cobra forces!
This is some of the best work I've seen in dioramas taking some the most simple things and making it into a work of art is no easy job. overall great video
Love this, My grandson was given a small suitcase full of action figures not just G.I. Joe's but the knock-off from like Dollar Tree, Dollar General and "Military" figures from Wal- mart too so I'm going to build him a homemade for his play room with both "good guy" and "bad guy" bases but I'm basically like a post apocalyptic bases, like the war between G.I. Joe and Cobra is over, they destroyed each other and they joined forces with their lesser known counterparts and combined into 1 group to keep fighting.
As for me who is just recently getting back into the 3.75 scale. I really appreciate the information you have. I want to get into customization with bases and other stuff. You sir have my attention.
Dude this is super rad! Thanks for sharing this video! I really appreciate how you take the time to explain things simply and encouragingly. I'm looking forward to your desert base and other variations! Yo Jobra!
Thanks so much. I’m hoping to do some more soon. Maybe A desert outpost. It’s summer here so something easy to bring to the beach for setup in the sand or dirt.
Oh this is really Nice!! and is making me think of all the things I could make with the dozens and dozens of old G.I.Joe vehicles, figures and playsets I have in storage. I love this channel.
Absolutely. The rounded form is very sci-fi but Cobra has always been on the sci-fi side in my opinion so it works for them. I'm not sure I could use the same parts for a Gi Joe type base. Their stuff is more conventional. But this could surely be used for Star Wars or similar. And thanks for the kind words!
Really glad I found your videos. Really fond memories of my GI Joes (Action Force in the UK) . I’ve kept a few of my favourite characters and my comics but unfortunately not my figures. Seeing your videos makes me regret selling them off many years ago! Subscribed 😊
Glad you enjoyed it. I sold all my collection off a while back and have been slowly rebuilding so it's never too late to get back into it. One reason I started fixing and modding Gi Joe toys is to save money and not going for the mint version. Thanks again.
Great work, I'm always looking at the shape of random objects trying to imagine what part they could become for a diorama or other craft project. And thanks for the tutorial links.
This is an excellent build. The coffee ring to fix the curvature of the top section is ingenious. This is something I've tried to fix many times less elegantly and less successfully. Good advice about the asymmetry of detail and shape composition, as well. If you'll permit me to make a few suggestions from my experience creating structures for tabletop wargames, I would fill in the gaps on the side of the light/sensor above the door and the angle brackets around the circular rim using either thin plasticard cut to shape, chipboard, or for smaller gaps, just fill it in with sculpting putty. Once the base coat is dry, you can bring out the details, especially on the machinery and access panels, by hitting it with a wash of very watered-down paint. White can be difficult to wash without making it look gray, but if you use the right shade and limit your application to the areas you want to accentuate it will work. And you can always drybrush over the sections that are too dark. Finally, you can get a more controlled application of weathering by speckling the darker paint on with a sponge.
It would be cool if you did a jungle and desert themed version as I plan to do a jungle display for my G.I. Joe predator crossover jungle assault display.
Yes i did the same thing. I had all the guys but not many vehicles. I made alot of trucks. Tanks and helicopters. Another reason to have kept my joes but i had to leave them.
This might sound strange, but I’d love to learn how to make transport storage containers for joes and cobra weapons. Kinda like crates or metal looking stuff that holds weapons and explosives that cobra could “steal” and take to their base.
Not strange. That sounds like a great project. I'm working on a Gi Joe train right now. I plan to have Cobra do a train robbery style attack and was planning to make something similar that Cobra would be stealing, like a container with some secret device or chemical. Thanks for watching.
Sorry, this is 9 months old so it's necromancy, but I just want to say I really like this, and I'm stealing the idea. My version is going to be a submarine tower, so it looks like it's breaking through the ice, but thank you for giving me a new project!
I love the idea and I make these to share ideas and how-to info. I'd love to a do a cross-section version of what you describe where you could see the ladder down into the sub pen/base. Too many cool ideas and not enough time! Thanks for watching and I hope to see your final project!
Looks better than GI Joe bases I had when I was a kid. Had I seen this back then I would rather have had this. Please build a better terror drome than the crappy one sold in stores and now ungodly priced...
I wonder if the size might also be a good thing. This could be a smaller, lower cost toy that could act as a base. And I didn't show it but you can still unscrew the top and store your figures inside :) Thanks for watching!
This might be a stupid idea but I want a tabletop JI Joe wargame. Like either at 28 ml scale with maybe 3D printed figures or even the normal Joe scale with the store bought action figures.
Yeah I was having trouble with some of the 2 mil stuff. But I think my snapping technique is getting better. I started using pliers to help me get the leverage on the thicker stuff. Thanks for the tip!
@@ActionRobotPunch absolutely. Cobra will need them to highjack a Soviet sub to start a war. The base is a staging point. Sounds like Snow Job, Iceberg, Striker & Subzero will have to call in back up from Deep Six, Torpedo & Wetsuit.
I show you in the video right afterwards :) They're from the different model kits. But if you can't find those exact kits almost any other kit will have little bits like the ones I use. Good luck.
As we mature as a people, I enjoy the fact that machismo is dying year by year. In regards to GI Joe you'll understand what I mean momentarily. My Dad always wanted to make dioramas of his small Army models. He didn't because he was Mr. Macho, semi pro weight lifter. As a late Gen Xer, (born in 1980), I've noticed many late Xers (b.76-82) are more likely to collect, Play with, modify, enjoy attributes of their childhood. Ie; Gi Joe, Transformers, Old gaming systems. 30 yrs ago this was impossible as the pressure to be a manly man was on 24/7. I collected Joes fall of 1985 till summer of 1991. I felt pressure than to become more involved in Sport and females. BUT deep down I would have kept playing with joes into 1992-93. As I was beginning Jr high. I started a new collection from scratch 4 weeks ago. I have 38 figures on hand and 16 in transit (get here soon!!! :) Lol ) and I ordered vehicles as well. Just like many many later Xers I also had children late. I'm 40, going on 41 in 2 days, and my oldest is 3 And youngest is 2.. I love playing action figures with my oldest. It's great!! Thanks for making this video
I'm glad you liked the video and are getting back into collecting. It's great that we have these online communities that can be specialized in the things that we're excited about, like our Gi Joe toys. I'm glad you found this video and good luck growing your collection.
