I just visited Italy for the first time in late April, and I loved it! I brought my 79-year-young mother, so we limited our trip to Firenze, Roma, and Venice. Instead of staying in Florence we stayed in a lovely little town outside of Florence and took the train each day. I so enjoyed having a glass of Prosecco each day with my pasta.

My wife and I spent almost 3 weeks in Puglia in May and I completely agree with you about that region and about Lecce. It’s growing in popularity with tourists, but we met very few Americans. And, as always in Italy, there are wonderful regional foods to try. We took a class on how to make orecchiette, but I recommend buying them from the orecchiette women in Bari or just have orecchiette con cime di rapa in a restaurant.

Do not rent a car on the Amalfi Coast! The fear factor is off of the charts. Busses go everywhere. Also, I’d suggest basing yourself in one of the smaller towns like Praiano. Positano is crazy crowded, unless you like that vibe.

Me and my husband went to Italy and Greece for a 3 week honeymoon a year ago! This video makes me miss Italy so much! But for those going who have issues eating products with gluten and dairy in the US (like myself), I had pasta, pizza, risotto, and of course, gelato every day with ZERO issues! They really do use such cleaner ingredients over there.

Nice! I remember my first visit in 2011 when we flew from US to Rota, Spain to Sigonella via military aircraft before I retired from the US Army. I visited via cruises, train, and looonnggg bus rides haha. There's lots of walking for sure especially this last visit to all Cinque Terre in 1-day from La Spezia when cruise ship docked there for several hours. I also spent few days in Rimini to visit San Marino before heading to Slovenia, Budapest, and flew back from Serbia to IAH Houston. I am planning my trip again to visit new countries in eastern europe. Thanks for sharing!

Very nice overview of some basics when visiting Italy - thanks Giada! Lecce is my favorite place in Italy (actually in the entire world 😊) - I travel there twice a year for about a month. It is called “Florence of the South”, but I think Lecce deserves its own glory: beautiful Renaissance architecture, great food, charming surroundings, extremely clean, and above all, amazing friendly locals. It’s the perfect base when visiting Puglia, with easy access to some pretty towns, Ostuni, Alberobello, Locorotondo, Cisternino, Otranto, Monopoli etc. I second the opinion of “PrettierAfter50” that the restaurants open around 7 / 7:30 PM and dinner can be served starting at those hours. Also, unless you are “in pensione” - retired, on vacation, or an entrepreneur, and can take your time to wake up late, the rest of Italians wake up in the morning hours and prepare for their day which includes school or work, like the rest of the world.

Being Italian just like you, I would debate your answer about the dinner hours.. In my region, Veneto, dinner starts at 7:30 pm.. At my house, we eat at 7 pm. Restaurants open at 7:30 pm, and I tell you it gets busy, so you better have a reservation at that time.. They stay open until 10 pm.. so I don't know that your comment is very accurate. Check the times before you head out or make your reservations..

I live and work between Italy and Canada. What i miss about Italy is: The day is lived longer. And it’s more social. We don’t go home right after work and eat later. We go out before or after dinner. Small business owners close in the afternoon and stay open later in the evening. Most places are family friendly. It’s common to see kids out in the evening with their parents (including restaurants).

Definitely agree the best time to o to Italy is spring and autumn. Taking the trains anywhere north fog Naples is good. As yo go south they get a little spotty. For the adventurous traveler, try Calabria in the south. Good food that's a little different, great beaches, and outside of August, early September pretty much void of tourists. I got. chuckle when Giada was talking about Italian superstitions. My aunts threw a fit when I went swimming in the sea claiming that I would catch a cold. Italians do believe that the worst thing can do is go into the water after eating (they may be right on this point). Oh, and never ever, pet a black cat! Best meal? Find a local family owned trattoria for lunch. Take your time. Savor the experience. The table wine will usually be local. It most likely will have less alcohol, have fewer sulfites and b delicious.. Have fun. Have respect for the Italian culture and enjoy.

@@AnanthaNatureFotos welll the good thing for you is Italy will absorb that desire of love when you go there it quenches the senses in a way good way. I'm hoping to make it to the 21st time to Italy, my other love, ah Italy. I did have a fantastic dream last night I was in some kind of a restaurant / entertainment place in Manhattan NY, and this lady was dancing at the bar with some kind of cheerleader outfit beautiful metallic blue short shorts, medium tan skin, and a beautiful face, perfect match my perfect desire, facial wise, absolutely right on the money, well I told her that I'm Italian after she finished dancing and after I had touched her on the booty one time and leg while she was dancing, we sat down together and after I had told her I was Italian, she said she was Italian too, then she immediately kissed me with an open mouth, my god she made me tingle all over and and I felt we fell in love at that very moment, it was so vivid and real, I felt every sense perfectly as if it was real. Unfortunately I woke up, but I was laughing after I woke up, it was so good, only in my dreams only in my dreams will that ever happen

I’m a wine connoisseur, and the table wine in Italy is almost always fantastic. Not to mention you can literally buy it by the liter for 13 euro. One of the best ones we had was a rosé at a restaurant that was on the Michelin guide in Taormina. Miss it so much!

Great information. I would add that wine lovers might want to pass through Tuscany on their way to Piemonte and then stop in one of the hilltop villages of the Langhe - maybe La Morra - to get acquainted with Barolo or Barbaresco or Barbera or Dolcetto reds and Arneis, Favorita and Prosecco whites. But as you say, wherever one stops for wine in Italy, smiles are inevitable.

My wife and I are going to Italy next summer (she's a teacher in grade 6 here in Montreal, QC, so we can't go off season) with our daughter who will be 17 by the time we go. One of the places we will be visiting is Larino, in the province of Campobasso in the Molise region. That's where my nonno, my dad's dad, was born. He emigrated to Canada via NYC with my great grandparents in 1919 when he was four. I'm looking forward to trying the different dishes that are made and trying the wine from that region. I was wondering if you have ever been in that region, and if so, what are your recommendations? We will be staying in Termoli, which is a 25 minute drive from Larino. We'll be renting a car to go from the Naples Metropolitan area (haven't found a home base for that leg of the trip yet, Rome has been taken care of) to go there, and dropping it off in Fiumicino. Ciao da Montreal, Quebec!

Thank you, Giadia! I’m hoping to come to Italy to spend a month or so and retrace the roots of my ancestors which are mostly in central and southern Italy. Also thinking about applying for citizenship because ultimately I’d like to buy a casa piccolo in Italy. Any suggestions about towns or the process would be most appreciated! In any case this video was very helpful👏🏻 thank you again! 🙏💕🥰💃🏻🇮🇹

I never had gluten issues while living in Europe. Cleaner, no preservatives better regulations and just fresh. Also they take walks after dinner which kick up the metabolism.
