RIP, maestro Gianni. You've always been my favorite lyric tenor along with your compatriot Ferruccio Tagliavini. You remain an absolute example to follow for the flawed and way less gifted current generation of tenors. Your art is immortal. Thank you for all this priceless testimony you left to us.
Puccini successfully stops time with the beginning of this aria. It clearly demonstrates his awesome genius. As for this particular spectacle, it must be the best La Boheme I can imagine. Absolutely fantastic with Freni, Raimondi and Karajan.
im at a loss for words. breathless. my God what a talented tenor.ive just listened to 10 strait tenors sing this and Gianni right there with them all.got quite a surprise.
Non molto conosciuto da noi (Stati Uniti), but a very fine tenor indeed and of course Mirella Freni very right vocally and touching in this part. The final scene is also beautifully played. Grazie mille, Gruppo.
Monnarch Monnarchy He was Italy's leading Lyric Tenor in the 60s..so was picked for this Film..grow up.. your knowledge of Music and Opera is equivalent to a Gnat's knowledge of QFT
Awesome! All that Pavarotti hype puzzles me. There is nothing special about Pavarotti in comparison to other top tenors of the past. And, concerning Gianni Raimondi, no other tenor had sung in more operas together with Maria Callas than him, and she wouldn't had accepted anything else than the best tenors next to her!
1:22 forced note. Not so high note for tenors. Raimondi wasnt a tenor. Young psvaroti overthrow it easily, while a bunch of monacos, corellies, carusos, volpies stayed in there were they - at bari position
He is very very good, indeed. Better than any other Tenor today. But why hasn't he been as famous as the others (Pavarotti, del Monaco, Bergonzi, Corelli...)? In my opinion, his voice isn't so special and he doesn't reperesent a specific "type" of singer.
Peter Marino of course he is! this is taken from a opera-movie and not from a live performance. the movie was directed from Zeffirelli ans the audio, as for all other opera-movies, is recorded in studio.
His elegance and highly crafted voice, and his touch of local, same root as of Verdi himself, make his voice extremely appealing... his own class. No need to compare to P. I do love Pavarotti's young voice, but it is much raw, not as finely tuned. Gianni is a professional and scholar type, great representative of classical ART form.
@@Joshuaklotzbach Maybe to you and yourself only. It is just laughable. Pavarotti will scream to bit the differ. He is a great or maybe the greatest opera ambassador.
