Both ourselves and the sharks were more scared of this huge Grouper than other sharks, the shark your talking about was a Lemon shark, they can be very brave and bold compared to other sharks here in Australia.

Conheço esse peixão pelo nome de Mero. O último que vi (ao vivo) devia pesar duas vezes mais que o sujeito que o matou. Fiz caça submarina por muitos anos, mas nunca quis abater esse peixe. Nunca procurei, mas sabia aonde achar. Esse peixe é magnífico e não merece ser caçado. O Mero é um dos raros peixes capazes de atacar grandes tubarões, mas não ataca pessoas.

Theres a family of these that live up cooktown under the wharf that are famous. We pulled one out once using a front end loader then released it. Was a big public thing for the town. I dont know if theyre still there...

So wait a minute. You attach the camera to the bait? The grouper takes the bait and your camera went with the bait. I can't imagine what that grouper was thinking. Hear me out here, just a thought maybe mount the cam on a tripod 6 feet away from the bait. Better footage overall less equipment loss.
