Please help me understand, I dont understand how you can appreciate the beauty of an animal and then kill it? what is the thought process behind having respect for the animal and its life... then shooting it, just dont get it. you say it yourself its not about the kill, then why kill it?
@TheExperience

First of all, thanks for asking the question respectfully and thanks for watching the video in its entirety! In regards to the moose, or any other animal, I think it is the greatest responsibility to only hunt the oldest most mature of any species. Because of hunters dollars states, like the state of Alaska are able to take annual census of hunt-able species and from that info determine the health of each individual species which in turn allows them to set a hunt-able quota that not only will sustain the species for generations to come, but hopefully also improve it. These particular studies not only in Alaska, but other parts of the US have been able to identify certain diseases and because detected early were able to be treated and in some cases prevented the entire herd from dying off. Organizations such as WSF are transplanting sheep back into areas that once had sheep, but for one reason or another(wolves, disease, etc) entire herds died off, and now are new, healthy, sustainable herds. You must remember that these studies/transplants are funded almost entirely off hunters dollars. There are a lot of places throughout the world that if not for hunters certain species would not exist, Lions, leopards and elephants, just to name a few. Hunting is so much more than killing, but understandably for someone that detests hunting thats all they can see. Emotions don't allow them to see the big picture. I also understand it is difficult to wrap your mind around the fact that killing an animal can actually help the species as a whole.
@eddievazquez6874

You are so right about that. Oddly enough, it often seems as though the people who hunt are the only ones who care about the health of the animals they hunt. The only ones who know first hand, from personal experience, how the animals live and what they need to survive. Happy hunting.

Hi, I'm a Wildlife Biology major, so I'm just going to put my opinion right here: People speak about how the world did just fine without hunters. But it didn't. Many species have run THEMSELVES into extinction because they breed in large numbers, lose their natural predators, or a sufficient disease isn't there to properly control their numbers. Pople think about how the native Americans killed all the mammoths, but mammoths were notorious for eating all the available food in a proximity and moving on, then another separate herd would follow them to find no food and starve, because the overall population of the mammoth was too large for the ecosystem to handle, therefore it began causing problems for other species too, both herbivore and carnivore alike. The United States is going through this right now: The white tail deer, one of the most populous large mammals on the planet, the US has an over abundance of them. They're eating themselves into death essentially because there are way too many of them for the ecosystem to handle (and this isn't a particular state, this is the nation as a whole!!), hence why some hunting seasons will give 40 to 45 bag limits because they are unable to control the population sufficiently, what's worse, is human expansion into forests has almost eradicated their natural predators (wolves, things of that nature) so the deer are continuing to breed with no predator to control their numbers, and while CWD is definitely happening, it's not controlling deer population fast enough or in a broad enough range, therefore, it's just wiping out small communities and reducing the gene pool.

The Native Americans lived for centuries hunting wildlife and respecting wildlife, helping and protecting their environment. Our world has become synthetic entirely, with man-made products replacing food, and artificial elements replacing natural ones. I encourage free range animal harvesting as well as hunting. Hunting to excess is the problem we need to be concerned about. Hunting on it's own is just what it is. Something quite primeval and natural.

@montanadoctor actually it was the white man that was responsible for the sharp decline of the big game, buffalo in particular were wiped out quite literally by the millions for their hides, the carcasses left to rot. For too long have the white people (I am a white man by the way, married to an indian woman) been blaming the native americans for the whites own atrocities. Now the " civilized" people are throwing blame on hunters when it's their own fault due to the lack of understanding as usual. The most common reason for prejudice (and it is a form of prejudice) is the fear of the unknown, non hunters face a huge unknown and therefore quite commonly get angry with the hunters. Please educate yourself before throwing out propaganda that is absolutely not true.

These are the ways a moose will finish its days scenario 1 : The moose spends all its energy mating and then slowly freezes and starves through the winter and just as its about to die a pack of wolves comes along and disembowels it leading to a horrible painful drawn out death. scenario 2 : The Moose gets covered in 100+ pounds of ticks that slowly drink its blood and make it weak, it can not put on enough weight for the winter and slowly freezes and starves to death before getting disemboweled by a pack of wolves scenario 3 : Moose gets chased for twenty plus miles by a Grizzly bear until it falls over from exhaustion, Grizzly rips its esophagus out while it is lying there trying to catch its breath. scenario 4 : Moose manages to avoid all previous scenarios and lives to a ripe old age until one year its teeth are so worn and painful that it is unable to eat and put on weight for the winter, ( has bowels ripped out by pack of wolves) scenario 5 : munching happily away on some willow branches in its prime , having a great day, all of a sudden it hears a loud bang, has some chest pain and shortness of breath and 30 seconds later blacks out. Which scenario would you choose? ( you only get one)

All the anti-hunting people commenting here are ignorant and hypocritical. Most of them probably wear and use products made from animals and eat meat. And this moose lived a way better life than cattle or pigs that are stuffed in feed lots in order to produce your fast food. And hunters are the best conservationists, because all the money they pay for licenses and permits goes towards wildlife biologists conducting studies and the preservation of wildlife and wild lands through Fish and Game departments and other agencies. A bunch of uneducated, uninformed, blind city people who don't even appreciate or comprehend how they even get their food.

To all those people saying they left meat behind, there was no mention in the video about leaving meat behind. I rewatched the video several times and this conversation in the video never happened. Its illegal to waste the animal you harvest and to have it on video "if they wasted meat" would be a quick way to get find and charged. Read a little bit more about the North American Model of Conservation and educate yourselves before you make defamatory remarks on a subject you clearly know very little on. In the back country the rule is the last pack out are the antlers, culturally speaking for hunters you get all the meat to the pick up point first then at the very end you get the antlers. Bush planes will make multiple trips hauling meat out and then at the very end fly out the hunters. But its easy to sit behind a keyboard making comments on something you have never done before. Hunters and legal gun enthusiasts have done far more then any other group for conservation. They through the Pittman-Robertson act they have single handedly raised literally tens of billions of dollars. Any other contribution to wildlife is a mere drop in the bucket. So maybe instead of criticizing hunters you should thank them for all the work done to restore the wildlife in North America to what it is today. I'm sure some of you will have some silly rebuttal or insult that you'll inevitably hurl my way but its okay cause I'm confident in my knowledge to handle others ignorance. Lastly if you eat meat and have hate for hunters you are the greatest hypocrites of all. At least these people work for their food, know where it was sourced and don't have possible 100 different animal remains in one kilo of ground meat. I'm not saying you have to become a hunter to have a clear conscious or be right, I'm just saying that being a little more self aware and a little less judgemental will go along way. Lastly for hunters if someone is being critical but not rude or simple asking to understand don't be an overt jerk and insult them. Instead inform and educate. We are the image that we want to leave behind and the way to make people understand isn't being a bunch of pricks. Its good to have the questions cause it keeps us honest and self reflect on why and what we do and thats not a bad thing to do every now and then. That was long winded but in summation, can't we all just get along....

This moose was caught above my hometown. Russian Mission, Alaska. It is illegal to leave the meat behind. & they did 🙄 please don't comment anything if you don't know the facts. There are many pictures of them on Facebook leaving lots of other moose meat behind around other villages too. They just take the antlers.

"Hunters and legal gun enthusiasts have done far more then any other group for conservation." Hunters have become many species extinct, it is a mistake to belive that paying to be allowed to hunt it's the only way to "help" these species. There is a natural balance that should be respected. Hunters do not care animals, if hunting was for free, they wouldn't give any money to animal protection organizations. The only thing they want is to have horns or skins in their halls as trophies.

Get real people food chains exist in nature for a reason. At least by hunting we’re doing in by way of virtue rather than dragging the calf to the back and blasting its head off.
@jakejerrison5181
@jakejerrison5181 3 года назад
Our way of life doesn’t depend on killing moose, so it has nothing to do with food chains. This is just killing for sport, which is not at all common in the animal kingdom. Animals kill to eat, in order to survive. Hunters - these types of hunters, that is - kill animals for the fun of it, because they’re sadistic parasites. It’s pretty pathetic when even wild animals have better human morals than humans themselves.
@AKhan-zx8gx

Jake Jerrison do you think they just threw that perfectly good moose away without using the meat and eating it? No. They most likely ate it, kept the horns as a trophy. No one would waste a perfectly good moose, especially since you’re only allowed to kill one per year I believe.

@@darkdodo3789 Large animals are often old and on their last leg, it's a much more humane way to go in a flash than to suffer in nature. Paying others to slaughter poor animals in horrible conditions is way worse than hunting. You have no idea what goes in to everything, from the knowledge, experience, gear, planning the journey, getting the perfect shot from the gun to the ammo that someone probably made for that specific rifle. It's not about that shot it's about the thousands of hours it took to get there. I have a lot of respect for people that hunt their own food

These are such beautiful majestic animals. Truly magnificent beasts. I am not entirely opposed to hunting, as long as the animal is used, and not just a trophy. I am not opposed to hunting, but only if it is done under the auspices of research-based ecological studies that result in legally oversighted licences where over-populations are culled, and not poaching. I have no qualms about poachers being prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Poachers are a nemesis. Clearly, you guys are working within the law, and it must've been a tremendous experience, but I hope, now that you have gotten one, that future shots are footage, not ammo. JMHO. Great filming, btw, and so sorry for the loss of your two friends.

I appreciate your approach to detail without saying a word including the Alaska State regulation that the horns come out last. Great job - well done; especially the single shot kill. Dropped him right in his tracks; that's how it should be. Excellent shooting and overall great video. Sorry to hear about your friends - my condolences to you and they're families.
