@Tosin...Zimbabwe suffered economic hardships mainly because of payback from the West. After Mugabe drove out the colonial invaders, and seized the land they had stolen from the natives, giving it back to the rightful owners, the West didn't like it at all. As a result, they slapped heavy sanctions on him, and made sure they villainized him. That was part of the reason why inflation shot up. Currently, things seem to have improved. Mugabe will always be remembered as an African hero who did what was right for his country and his people. However, the old warrior needs to step down and give way to younger blood.
Mental slavery is the worst kind because it makes people think in a manner of their brain washing & indoctrination. You read too much Western media, with Western agenda!! Inflation etc was as a result sanctions, in support of White farmers, by Western countries, when he took back farms taken during colonial era, ill gotten by murder & ethnic cleansing. UK were suppose to pay the farmers compensation but didn't. So how is this his fault? Today Zimbabwe is one of the fastest growing economies in the world, after standing strong against imperialism by not bowing to Western pressure. Unlike Nigeria it has an economy, in which most Zimbabweans are able to participate rather than foreigners & a few.
Tertullian Tertulian you are partially correct, Mugabe also has swindled the country's 15 billion diamonds money that would have sustained the country through the economic sanctions. Mind you the economic sanctions were targeted among the few leader's in his party.
