We need to make tons of noise to force them to amend the Pay to Play aspect of Illuminati. If I, a launch day player who is almost F2P cant get Britain, it will have a huge impact on my motivation in playing the game.
OML was the first big red flag this year. The FOMO is at an all-time high and this is why: 1. They said Cabal won't be needed for the legendary 2. They made the legendary be gated by yellowstars of the required teams, which Cabal was made. Iron Patriot was barely a 3* release. Meaning you needed 210 extra shards much after his orbs for cores were gone. That limited people like myself, who always got 6* legendary unlock with a 4* OML, killing the joy of actually playing a competitive mode (Trials) 3. The SWORD Satelite event and similar events - they are star gated (later levels require 4-5*) with HUGE rewards on the back end (like 3-diamond meta characters). I'm willing to bet OML will be required to beat a specific room in those events, meaning the best rewards will be effectively locked behind "Did you purchase Iron Patriot 4 months ago". 4. Illuminati will be required for the next legendary. As was said in this video, this will create a gap not only in the "did you buy 1 character offer like Iron Patriot" crowd, but "did you buy 3 offers", which can cascade into a future Satelite/Escape from Kyln, etc. Not to mention those events come with gear requirement too, maybe soon we will have a last level with "Requires G19". So we better buy as much as possible, because NO game mode is safe for a true competition.
When you break it down like that it feels truly awful. For the later floors of Satelite to be gated behind needing the new characters on the final floors wouldnt feel bad IF the damn mode didnt come around once year. When they do these star gates rather than just making the content require stronger characters it shows a lack of creativity on their part which to me shows a lack of caring for the player base.
Just started this game back in February and am a Pass buyer, I will gladly stop playing if this becomes the norm. Better to cut my losses early if this is the games future.
It’s the one PVP mode where it’s literally just me and I can see different action every time. War is alliance based and everyone has the same arena team lol. But crucible is becoming more impossible for worse and worse rewards.
My breaking point won't be the showcase event. It may not even be the first CC that I lose because my opponent has Brittain and I don't. But it will most definitely be when I'm getting stomped by the next legendary that I wont be able to get because of these predatory releases for the illuminati.
Reworks to old characters are the best parts when a new team gets introduced and scopely dropping the ball really is annoying, like seriously 12% or whatever the fuck in increase to iron man’s attack are you fucking kidding me? Why even do anything if your gonna make it so small and you know damn well they didn’t test shit before they gave it the ok
Once Scopley killed off the f2p player's the game is as good as dead. Point. Once f2p player's are gone it's just a question of time "dolphins-whales-krakens" will quit too. Like in freaking nature once the small guys are gone the big guy's are doomed. Who the HELL who is right in his mind is willing to keep playing a doomed wallet war game? You can only pay to win if there is someone you can win against. Otherwise :wallet wars. Enjoy. You play to have fun not to get CONTINUOUSLY frustrated or to get ripped off in this case : Disgusting BRUTALLY and shameless. Personally the more I see stuff like this the LESS I'm willing to give Scopley ANY cent. If Scopley wants to play it "grab the cash and run" and therefore ripp off their CUSTOMERS and players so: Be it. At the end scopley will loose with garbage like this. Greed NEVER pays out. The amount of money some already have spent would probably have get em HIGH QUALITY games to play till the end of days. A company who runs a product still buggy UNBALANCED (after years now!) part wise frustration filled ( cause frustration used as a tactic to get people to spend ) has no job to "ask/force" for that pathetic greedy amount of money. And sorry but if the I wanna be "Players Voice" as the envoy's don't raise hell now. Well good luck. For us the customers/players it's just a game the ONLY worth we get is: fun. No fun?: bye bye. Easy as that. For some envoy's and content creators it's a income if this continues better start looking for a new income. Btw :The same for some Scopley employees. So under the line what is Scopley looking for? A constant income from a fun to play game that can go on for a long time cause people love to play it OR a grab the money and run and behind me the deluge shit show who can be over very fast. I buy passes and the occasional good $5 offer. This release method has turned me off from spending on either character and makes me ask “if I can’t be competitive without getting Captain Britain, why even buy the passes anymore?” I’ve tried to keep this comment business friendly so the feedback can be shared with Scopley but I used many other choice words when I first read the blog.
Crucible scoring sucks. I can't get out of the plat 1, plat 2 jail of toss up matches. Win 3 one week, lose 3 the next. All for 2 diamond dawn orbs to get 7 red star garbage dupes.... crucible isnt fun
I catch myself when I fall into the Sunk Cost Fallacy. This appears to be that, I stopped buying toon offers (the last one was BK), but I do buy passes. This is horrible.
As a pass buyer there's 0% chance that I'm springing for character offers. I know there's some insane people out there spending car payments and mortgages on a mobile game every month, but what do they think pass buyers are going to do? We buy them so that we have the resources to actually build characters and progress teams. There's no shot that I'm going to 2.5x my spending for a single team and forgo all those resources. Additionally, even if they somehow gave us battle pass value for that $200-$300, I still wouldn't do it. Cost of living is insane and I'm worried about being able to retire one day. No chance I'm going to dig that hole deeper for a video game. This is bad game design and I don't see how they expect to make money on this because, as you said, character offer folks wont be changing their spending habits and the amount of pass buyer folks springing for this has to be abysmally low. The only thing I can think of is that this is purely a situation to make sure that low spenders can't theorycraft their way to higher ranks. They want the krakens that don't care to theorycraft to be able to put Mephisto and Illuminati on defense and force people like Dulom to drop a minimum of 5x attacks in CC so that lazy Krakens can still win without trying.
Game is in horrible position honestly. They turned up predatory tactics dial to max. If you don't have maxed out toons (stars, lvl, gear) you will just lose in a stat check, no matter you are using good team to counter. OML event, epic fail characters. This "game is in a good place" is just an illusion that they led us to believe. And it wont turn back if you think you can do something about it, bcs ppl are falling for these predatory tactics and taking the bait.
Crucible now is broken, it was bad already with the league devaluation after each season but after what happened when this season started where we should have stayed and then most people went down but some went up... They have ruined it. They ruined raids with Inc 2.0, they ruined Scourges with OML release and now they have ruined Crucible. Crucible WAS my fav mode, not anymore. And yeah this season of War is awful too :( I cant really understand how you say the game is good now, in my opinion it is at its worse (launch player here).
I buy the passes, and crucible is my favorite game mode. I refuse to buy these characters out of principle, I did the same with alpha flight. I guess I'll just have to not care about crucible any more.
I hate crucible with a passion. I routinely face people that are 30 million dollars tcp higher than me. I have said for a while. Crucible will be the reason that I quit this game
im honestly thinking about quitting again... there are other games that interesting. this game is my most expensive game i play... wanting more to paywall pvp... im not in.
very sad. I buy on average 2 passes a month, lately I have not bought more because they lowered their value. Obviously I'm not going to spend 200/300. I'll settle for using the other 5 in crucible attack and war. Maybe I'll buy a Shuri or Hank Pym pass but that's still several weeks away so it's going to be 2 or 3 months that I haven't given them money and I hope many others are doing it too.
I think it is crazy that the Players Voice gave their feedback on how bad this is and how everyone hates it and Scopely went " yeah cool story, we are not changing it. Get f**ked commanders."... So what the hell is the point of the point of the Players Voice if they arena going to listen to the feedback anyway

Get them. I'm a new player o spend 120ish a month all passes and occasionally a loki offer stream or a calender what I see as good deals most things are insane expensive. But myself and other working folk couldn't afford this even if we could justify it. In America today this are so bad. Money is do tight I shouldn't spend what I am. But if can't. Spend that and compete maybe I shouldn't spend at all.
There is another side effect. I need to stop watching your videos, because it makes me wont to have this toons. Why? Because thats whats your content is about. So, maybe there will be negativ effects for the Msf Content Creators too. And I hate to say or write this.
Having Illuminati being needed for a Legendary unlock almost assures the next Legendary is the new Arena meta. They want the biggest spenders to have the most advantage. What better way than to stack gates atop gates? It might even be a soft/hard counter to Mephisto to push down any F2P-light spenders who might unlock Mephisto for the time of the next Legendary is unlocked.
I’m not getting drawn into the paywall… £2-300 I could feed my family for 2 weeks with that money!!!!! … I’d be interested to see what happens to the game as a result… this is a greedy misstep And yeah… buhbye crucible
Did anyone support this from the Envoys? If not what did Scumley say in response to the negative feedback? “Tough, FTP can suck it up and spend” Sadly enough people will buy this that Scumley won't be bothered by Player Feedback.
I Just get more pissed about Cap Brit or what imma call him Kracken Bait!!!!!! It is utter b/s, their are people that might start playing this game because of Kracken Bait and they will have no access to him unless they spend hella money, even us OGs would have to pony up at least 100$ for each of them but more like 150-200 to make sure we get the 5 star for the "KB" unlock!!!! I am super pissed!!!!!!!!!
im having that problem in crucible currently. I win 2 out of 3 of them, with a 20m account, I just unlocked Super Skrull, i have Apoc, i even got Old Man Logan. All free to play. I get opponents all at a minimum of 40-50m tcp. and when i win 2, i lose trophies. and when i win all 3(somehow, i guess my opponents suck) i barely gain any trophies. If even Crucible is just a measuer of how much money youve spent, why should i even bother playing it, if i cant climb up with just better game knowledge and a more efficient roster. I'd say this last year has been one of the best years for this game, since i came back anyways. And then this happens... Theres no way they walk any of this back, but maybe if we're pissed enough, they'll do something to make up for it at least.
CC is not fun for me. I went 1-2 this week against 50-60m tcp accounts with real teams. Those lazy fucks with big rosters can't win anything in the big leagues so they are the same rank as me, even lower. Then they are matched with someone like me who can't match their rosters at 16m tcp. I can't punch up to a roster that can field my entire tcp worth of power on offense and clear everything I have on defense with no trouble. And if the opponent turtles up, I can clear 4-5 rooms at most with cabal, s6, oml and xtreme. Maybe scrape something for the 5th room. Lost 66 points, would have lost points even if I went 2-1. I could have MAYBE won 1 of the 2 matches I lost this week, and I lost far more points than I gained for the win. I'd be OK if I lost like 5-10 points against a guy 4 times my tcp, but the current system is such bullshit. I'm not interested in it, especially since they gate all of the worthwhile rewards at the platinum rank. And now I'm gated by the top team, really? Screw you game, I'm going to play war. I enjoy war much more than crucible. P.S. I am buying passes and there is no way I will be intimidated into buying this shit character. This is too obvious a cash grab attempt.
Revenue is way down, so they're going into full milk mode and leaving a skeleton crew on this game while they work on their more profitable games like Monopoly GO. If you're a spender, be cautious and remember that games can go EoS at any time. Remember Battleworld?
I know I'm being part of of the problem, but the sunk cost fallacy is too high, so I'll rage about this plenty, but I'll likely keep playing till that paywall actually enters my part of crucible, or I end up losing 4-5 characters to it. Once every other week I'm collecting one insta-loss when I still bother to play crucible because that's how they're giving us points toward a character unlock then I'm gone instantly. That's when they've officially piled up too many paywalls in my way that whatever progress I've built up to that point no longer warrants preserving.
This can't be a coincidence...@dorky talks about people walking away and Scopely getting a strong message by seeing daily logins drop and today we get an in-game message about a "Weekend Surprise" 2-day login calendar with a "burst of rewards". Doesn't make this situation any better Scopely and those who were pissed off enough to take a break or walk away completely will not be swayed by a promise of some extra rewards for logging in this weekend.
While i wont quit, depending on how this is implemented i might just become a fully casual f2p player. If crucible becomes pay 2 play, this game just wont have enough interest for me
💯 dilute the orbs, then open them - for 2-4 needed shards - to get a milestone which rewards another orb that will probably only have an average of 3 needed shards. Just like this idiotic guardian orb. I’m getting an average of 2-3 shards and then tons of orbs I don’t need. Lol😅
I was already consdering quitting once I get mephisto, since they've already been turning against ftp so substantially. this locks it in. so not tomorrow, but only a few more weeks left for me...
So glad I ignore Crucible as much as possible. I do one battle each Crucible to make sure I get "participation" credit. I only do more when I'm forced into it by events like the current one.
I'm one of those that came back during 6th anniversary event after 2+ year break and game seemed to be doing good so I've been buying the passes since their such a great value. This is disappointing. Even bought some extra stuff for logans event and still only got the base unlock since I couldn't get through the cosmicbio node.. doesn't feel great.
I'm not spending money on this game anymore after this. I used to get the passes by. I'm not even going to do that. I'm strictly free to play now, and if I can't get these characters, I won't feel bad. I'll just switch to collecting and leveling my favorite Marvel characters and being less competitive at this game
The old-school legendary unlock wasn't even this bad cause you could blitz hardcore and get them to 5 stars by the second blitz event for new characters sometimes 6
since the biggest part of the playerbase is silent, i guarantee you, its quite sure literally the other percentage way around who really like or not hate war&his disabled brother cc.
Not only are they looking great, but also they might be best on defense…so you won’t even get to play with them in crucible. Lame. And this is bad news to come the same week that the Steam summer sale starts and you can see how much you can get for even just $50
They could easily make sure everyone who spent for 7 stars gets it by making the final difficulty require 7 stars and put the shards in a milestone that you can only reach with points at top difficulty and just put red stars/diamonds and up to 6 stars in leaderboards
Bottom line if scopely starts making characters pay only, I will no longer play this game or support scopely. People can say anything they want to me or scopely but that is a line that if they cross it, there is no going back and I won't be any part of it. Good luck to all that stay. And here's to hoping it doesn't get to that.
I was spending on characters but realized i could never keep up and cut back to the passes only. But now i think after this round of ultra cores is up i might be done spending all together.
They don't care about the old players are the ones that have been playing for a few years they want the new players that they trick into buying stuff.. This game cares about money only if you think they care about the players sorry..
i would argue against the game being in a good place, it's never felt this uncertain in awhile. people are still quitting at a good pace weekly and there is no word on anything new coming to the game to excite people.
To me it seems like they were mad that so many people got old man Logan for free with the one node method so then they did this to try to recoup the money they lost on him 🤬

Just my F2P view, I can skip the whole team for 6-8months its not going to throw me out of Top 6-15%. Anyhow I'm not getting that weekly Diamond orbs, so no big deal for F2P's. As per legendary toon unlock either back to old method 5 Star unlock on second run or Max difficulty one node clear trick to get the minimum unlock on 1st run. Although this might affect the Top-5% in CC, which are usually the spenders range. Scopely says either be a whale or go F2P, no mid ground. Edit- Don't worry guys they will drop the unlock requirement to 4stars. And suddenly there will be no noise, like somehow suddenly even the F2P's also got the easy 4star unlock.😆
This might be the thing that makes me quit this game. CC is far and away the biggest motivation to try to FTP max every event and keep my roaster as relevant as possible. My enjoyment comes from seeing how far I can progress against people who clearly are dropping more money on the game in a week than I have during the lifetime of my almost 4 year old account. There is decent wiggle room in CC to get ahead of players who have way more at their disposal. Between keeping defense/offense choices as meta as possible, using broad or narrow defenses, being smart about when you need to sack, etc. I can get the edge against these players by just playing it better. Creating such a harsh PTW divide in the player base basically eliminates that wiggle room. I will go 0-3 for weeks after these characters come out because everyone will be paying for these characters in the brackets I'm in. $$ should give players an edge but almost never flat out be the determining factor. Scopely is also clueless to how unpopular this is going to be. The amount of drama that will be cause by large amounts of the playerbase not unlocking the team, all for a defense team that also kinda drastically spoils the best/most competitive game mode in the game is going to be a shit storm. Then the storm is going to double back with the legendary release tied to this team when they predictably design the difficulty of the illuminati nodes around having CapBrit.
Idk what I’m doing in this game right now, there’s no point playing crucible because I know I won’t be able to make it to platinum, the war rewards in general are jus terrible it’s just a biweekly gold payout atp, raids are just 24 people gambling if they’re gonna make it through all the nodes or get destroyed, either way you’re still gonna get 40% and get all the rewards so who cares, I’m still too far from dd7, and then, well there’s nothing, except a new paywall for a game mode I’m not even invested in?

The game basically runs off fomo, if I stop now it’s going to take a long time to get back to where I am if it gets good, when I can instead just sit through it. When they announced professor x a year early, I knew it was the beginning of the end. No new game modes this year even though they said we were getting them. Nerfing battle pass and paywalling characters for the first time in games history. Insert taps trumpet.
After you describe how he will be a vaulted toon, it makes more sense why there are 6 toons in the team. That way FTP can use Illuminati team, just a vastly inferior version. And please tell them to give more damage bump to Black Bolt! And theoretically you could get legendary unlock without Captain Britain (cause you would have 5).

I'm a Pass buyer, but I will not spend on this characters. If i don't get the team right away, that's not a problem, if it will affect my gameplay, i will quit.
Forgot to mention another thing It took me around 4 months in order to start getting fair trophies in crucible I used to lose around 40 and gain 15ish This season was kinda better starting to earn in the 20s
surprised that the MSF player voice let this kinda shit happen tbh, thought that was the whole point of that program but all I've seen come out of it in a year is that theyre looking for new staff members😂
I know you said Black Bolt over Iron Man due to passive. Do you feel the same for other game modes like War? Black Bolt passive stats are Crucible only (unless changes).
As exactly the target audience Scopely is fishing for (buying both passes, and unlocking characters with the smallest offer available, and the odd purchase here and there for training mats and T4's) I agree with your overall analysis. I would say though, that the additional cost is not what concerns me. I've been playing the game on and off with various accounts since the release of Fury back in the day and my current account is only level 98, but this thing with F2P unlocking legendary characters on run 1 I do not understand. Perhaps I'm jaded and extremely biased since I've spent tens of thousands of dollars on the various accounts over my playtime with no regrets. So for me, the 5* requirement is not a problem in and off itself. I actually don't like these leaderboards that lets players get higher star count unlocks than what their base characters would allow for. (like 5* characters getting to unlock 6* OML etc.). So I'm fine with the OG method of unlocking where you'd get a 5* unlock if you had 5* characters, 6* for 6* etc. The problem for me personally is thus not the additional cost with this method, that does not really matter, and I understand that is an extremely privileged viewpoint to have. What matters to me is the vault. Vaulting a character like that should not be happening. That is what we ultimately should be rioting against (and I do mean rioting) because it locks out everyone and creates artificially induced FOMO with potential downstream effects for half a year or more like you point out. That there's a cost to unlocking the newest legendary is business as usual. We all know this. But the vaulting aspect needs to be shut down so hard Scopely does not think about it again, and towards that goal you have my pitchfork and torch at your disposal.
We can get rid of whiners. Yes. It's the old school legendary unlock. We can get toons second go around. Also allows the FTP to skip a team. I say good riddance to quitters and whiner's.
