I own one on my TCR Pro 1 Rim Brake 2020 and it's been flawless. Giant is actually really good value for money atm, selling bikes with carbon wheels and power meters for a really good price and as you said, you don't need to buy the wheels and the power meter seperatly and then getting them setup, it's just there on the bike when you buy it. Big point for them !

Arvin Velasco hi Arvin, the problem was the battery in the power meter I sent it back to the retailer who were really great they changed the power meter when it arrived back it paired 1st time ..so if your power meter doesn’t pair the chances are it’s the battery in the power meter 👌🏻

I have the MY19 version and it's been great in terms of reliability. I have a Quarq DZero on another bike and get similar readings for similar rides, so the Power Pro seems good enough for the likes of me. I was experiencing the battery drain issue (battery would die after a few days) last year but updating to firmware 238 seems to have corrected the issue. This is a quality power meter and its inclusion on so many Giant models is a killer feature for them. Other manufacturers: take note.

I've got the 2019 version on my 2019 Giant Defy Advanced Pro and it's been great. Needs a little more regular charging, and you do have to be careful when putting the charger on, but it came with the bike and just works right out of the box. I've got the Rotor 2inPower on my gravel bike, and had to change the BB (bb86 on my bike) to make it work with the 30mm axle, and I can't really tell the difference between the two.

It looks as if Giant has figured out the "make work" to make total power come out looking accurate. Fudge the left side upward and total power earns the GPLAMA "looks good!" Total power is theoretically closer for a lot of people, but L/R power is farther off than before. Yesterday, I conducted my own Garmin Vector 2 vs. Stages LR Shimano test on the same ride. 10% difference. And I realized that using just the Left Stages would be more accurate for me than using both sides of the LR.

i wanted to write exactly the same, if you have 50-50 balance, the result will be "good" with this Giant pm, but if you have different balance (lots of people have 48-52 or 52-48 or a little worse) the results will be more off... so it is a "cheap" solution imho...

I started with the 2019 version on my Giant Defy Advanced Pro 0 in February 2019. Worked only on ANT+ and I had only readings from left side. Because bluetooth not functioning, not possible to update and hoping problem would be fixed... After replacement everything ok. In April 2020 it looked like during the update something went wrong. On my iPhone it looks like left side is on version 237 and right one on 238. In May 2020 next problem, right side dead battery. I can only see powermeters, when charging. Little difficult when biking :-) Now new replacement with the 2020 version dor two days, hope it will be ok now. Donald

I broke the previous version on my TCR Pro 0 when I dropped the chain outside the chainring which ripped the cover. Kudos to Giant customer service they quickly replaced the broken PM with the new version. At first it worked just fine but I had been noticing the low battery life vs the old and the Quarq on another bike. I was actually giving up on the PM until I saw your video. I updated the software just tonight so I will see if it works tomorrow morning. This PM (and the previous version) works just fine to be honest. It is slightly a better design but finding the charging locations is a bit of a hassle. Hopefully the performance will get better after the software update.

I’m about to get my 3rd power pro unit. 2019 unit never worked properly, 2020 unit worked perfectly for 3 weeks then started throwing dodgy figures before it completely failed. Spent a while doing updates (Giant have updated the ride link app almost every week for 2 months now so something up there) but it soon became clear the battery in the left side was on the fritz. Giant have sent another unit to my LBS to be installed this week. I’m still hopeful it’ll work this time. Full credit, Giant NZ have been great to deal with. If anyone else is having issues pay attention to the app updates, firmware updates and how long the battery is holding charge. My unit failed about the point it needed charging every 2-3 days.

Got exact same issue - and also in NZ! I had a MY19 to start with on my new TCR Advanced Pro. Battery life was awful, only lasted 4-5 hours max and needed recharging. Took back to my LBS and they replaced at no cost to an MY20. Had it now for about 3 weeks and same old problems - battery only lasts 4-5 hours. Have just updated RideLink on my phone and updated firmware to 2.3.8 and will now wait and see if that makes a difference. If not it's back to my LBS again. Shame as it's such an awesome bike.

Ian Fraser I wouldn’t wait till it dies. If your down to under a days battery life that’s enough for them to replace it seeing as their advertised battery life is 20x that. There have been 5 updates at least to the app in the last 3 months. I wouldn’t bank on another one making any real difference.

Are issues largely resolved or do they plague 2022 models as well? With the battery not replaceable, how many years are these expected to last/charge cycles?

Hi Shane, wouldn’t mind your opinion please. Bought a new 2019 Propel Advanced Pro Carbon last September, however, only just started riding it this last couple of months (didn’t want to get it wet or mucked up lol). Done about 650km on it. Here’s the question. I do the same 30km ride on it every time I go out. Power readings from the Giant supplied Power Pro pm come up on an Element Bolt. The NP is consistently coming up lower than the average power. For this mornings ride, NP 261, average 268. I thought NP should always be higher (unless you’re on rollers when you’d expect parity). For comparison, I have an older TCR Advanced with a stages 4iii single crank pm, and some data from the same ride last year was NP 270, average 238. Don’t know where to go. A pm isn’t much good if it’s inaccurate. Based on your escapades with the pm when you got your new TCR, where do think the error may be. (I’ve updated the firmware btw and zero offset before each ride). Ps, I’m 56, ride as hard as I can, love cycling and love your channel. Can’t wait for your Stages indoor trainer full review 😀

Can you speculate on how the aggregate power numbers are coming out OK? Does the ‘fudging’ consist of increasing left side reported power to compensate for presumed lower right side power?

@@fukawitribe thanks so much for that RU-vid video link, that saved me from writing a super long comment. A much shortened comment is that (if I recall correctly) from Shane's tests with the Stages left-right system, the left measured fairly accurately but the right read low at times. Whereas with this Giant left-right system the left measures high and the right measures low but the sum is fairly accurate. If you watch that video in the link you provided he mentions coupling, seems that the Giant system might be reading power that is coupled from right to left so that it somehow gets the sum correct but doesn't recognize where the actually power originates. That's the essence of the thought I had and your link made it much easier to express but referring to that video.

@@Tanguy1911 no I just ride with the powermeter of my Giant. I am still not convinced which is best but in the gym we have 30 spinning bikes with all stages powermeters and they give more or less the same figures as my Giant. Also there is an extensive test of my Giant powermeter on RU-vid which show really accurate figures and I also compared my powermeter to others which are all similar so I tend to believe my Giant.

Hello GPLama, hello everyone, Does anyone know if this new power meter is used on every 2020 bike with the Giant Power Pro power meter ? Because for example, the TCR Advanced Pro Team Disc 2020 has this power meter, but no "Power Pro" technology, while the TCR Advanced Pro 1 Disc 2020, with the same power meter, has the "Power Pro" technology. And on the Giant website, the "Power Pro" tech. is described as the new Giant Power Pro power meter. So I was wondering if maybe some 2020 bikes were still using the 2019 Giant Power Pro power meter. Thank you.

I’ve just ordered one, to be installed at my local bike shop in a older TCR carbon, my first power meter. My whole reason for ordering this brand it’s got local support and I’ve had multiple injuries in my left leg. According to your video the right side will be off by 10%?? This is fine provided it’s consistent. I have problems with pedals when clipping in at lights so I don’t want to be stuck with ones I have issues with, also pedals wear out over time right? Please someone tell me I’ve made a good decision 😬
@gplama
@gplama 3 года назад
If the right side was off by a known/content amount, they'd simply factor that in and you'd have an accurate power meter. It's more complex than that. Depending on how deep you want to research this.... here's some reading: gplama.com/2019/06/29/shimano-crankset-power-meters/
@nblake101
@nblake101 3 года назад
Shane, I see what your saying and other RU-vid reviewers have complained of the same right side problem but there are teams in the world tour using them. Is the right side always down? My thinking is that if I see my left side is less or same as right side then I’ve got an issue as I know my left side is an issue? Also if the unit is always inaccurate(inherit fault) then I can simply return it within 12months as I’m having a giant shop fit it for me.
