I usually go fishing at creeks with scoop nets and collapsible fish traps, but every now and then I like to watch these! I've turned 12 not long ago and got really enthused about fish and stuff, oh the research

Hey I think it's great to have an opportunity to practice on big fish and for the fisherman to see some nice action. How disappointing it would be to catch that huge wild fish only to lose it. Better to get your line wet with these beautiful stocked fish first and get a feel for the sheer size of a monster trout on a fly. Thanks for sharing the video.

Sutton Springs. Near Andover, in Hampshire. England. Another film on catching giant rainbows on a tiny 4-weight due up around 18th July 2013.Should give you some idea of the action available.
@TAFishing
@TAFishing 11 лет назад
You are right there.The original stock rainbows I caught at one Hampshire lake 30 years ago were from Shasta rainbows.Hook one and they were airborne,stripping hot fly line through the fingers.Now,you rarely get any bigger trout(4 plussers) to get "air".I believe its been bred out of the original strain.Plus the heart size on a big trout is tiny.Small pump in what should be a big engine.Genetic inbreeding or modification of original strains could be the problem.Need original stock again.

Well I never thought I would see something that would make me want to leave the good ole' U.S.A., but I may have to finally get a passport to come to the UK and get some rainbow trout. I would never want to take the fish because if they have grown that big, a picture and the rest of its life is good for me. I eat smaller trout, but I wouldn't have the heart to kill such a beautiful creature. All the best, and thanks for sharing. Sean

I've got agree that there is much less skill involved in this sort of fishing. It does take skill to land fish of this size, but nowhere near the same level of catching these size fish which are wild in rivers in CO. I'm fortunate to catch 10-20lb trout in rivers. Happy fishing all!

I remember being on holiday as a kid and "trying" to fly fish with a bamboo cane some cotton and a paper clip on a river when an old chap came out and told me off for poaching, when he realised I had absolutely no idea what I was doing he asked me if I wanted to catch one the good old fashioned way, he got his young son to fetch a piece of thin rope put a slip knot in it and we walked the river bank until we saw this absolute monster of a trout facing upstream literally inches from the bank, he crawled up basically on his belly slid his hand and rope into the water and pulled that monster out onto the bank with a thud. With the rope around the fishes tail he gave it to me and told me to get my dad to cook it tonight and we did. Thinking back that fish must of been 15lb plus. Decent days fishing with my DIY gear or so my Dad thought! Peace

anybody can catch a stocked fish. it takes true skill to catch a fish that's not dumb enough to bite twice or bite when he sees you. plus those fish are fed regularly its no accomplishment to catch fish like that. a fish that gets that big in the wild naturally is way better to catch.
@thekneehockeypros8815

@adamg5829 9 лет назад
TheKnee HockeyPros You be thankful my friend :) I've got dreams of one day finding a place like that or living near water that at least has the potential of having that. I'm quite happy with the 10-12 inch brookies and rainbows we get here in PA but i'd give a few toes and fingers to live near water like that. Untouched and an perfect for trout, it couldn't get any better I feel.
@morrowboarder
@morrowboarder 8 лет назад
+mariano montoya No, wild trout can be fooled just as easy with spinners and live bait. It takes true still to know what the wilds are rising to the surface for, and presenting the fly in a manner that looks natural to them.
@KaliAndy2
@KaliAndy2 8 лет назад
+morrow boarder fooled just as easy? BS You can walk up on a river with a rope and pull a stocker out 5 ft away from you using anything. They see you and think dinner is coming lol Wild trout are skittish and get spooked easy whether seeing you, your tackle and even by bait if its floating or looking unnatural. Sure you can fool them too but it takes more skill and knowledge to get them.
@morrowboarder
@morrowboarder 8 лет назад
Yeah I fish stocked and wild trout regularly for 20 years, and can catch both on any gear; that's all I'm saying. BUT to my defense, walking up a river with rope and swinging it around trying to catch fish sounds exhausting. Why not just say with your hands? ;)

By pay-lakes I guess you mean what we call day ticket. There must be thousands over here.If we didn't have them barely anybody would get to catch a trout. Even our rivers are stocked, and the better ones you can't even get on if you pay. Syndicated or private. Its a massive industry here.Great if you have a huge country with lots of wild trout streams and free fishing. But here in UK we don't .We have no choice. Its day ticket or little else. If the fish weren't stocked there would be no anglers

Actually, depends on the Salmon. Our Sockeye salmon will only spawn in Lakes. And actually, Salmon live for 1-2 years depending on species in rivers then migrate to the Ocean and spend another 3-6 years depending on species in the ocean before returning to rivers to spawn. Salmon like Sockeye though will only spawn in lakes, not rivers. You are right though, these are Rainbows not Salmon (though Trout are cousins).

I think some people should realise if there were no stocked rainbow there wouldnt be any in the UK! We only have wild brown and sea trout. Most fish are bred as duploid anyway. Some ignoramus on here need to some research. Another great TAF video.

@wille517

That is really sad in all honesty especially considering you guys are the birth place of fly fishing for trout. I didn't mean it in a offensive or antagonistic manner I was just curious as to how much of a part of angling culture it was over in the UK. But that makes the large size of the fish stocked make much more sense as it adds a level of challenge to what is kinda shooting fish in a barrel. I truly hope one day you have an opportunity to come state side and fish some of our wild streams.
