The Soviet Zubr-class LCAC or air-cushioned landing craft is the world’s largest hovercraft ever produced.
Displacing over 555 tons and measuring more than 57 meters, the Zubr or Pormornik is the ultimate amphibious vehicle used for disembarking and embarking troops, supplies, and vehicles.
Thanks to its squared shape and unique pontoon structure, the Zubr can carry 500 heavily armed Russian marines, 10 armored vehicles, or three battle tanks to swiftly deliver them to the battlefield.
Developed in the 1980s by the Soviet Navy, the amphibious vehicle has been constantly modified to keep it updated with modern technologies. Today, less than a dozen such vessels have been produced, but the Russian Navy has ambitious plans to develop more and deploy them all the way to the Pacific and Eastern Europe.

This is good for rescue missions. But for an assault vehicle it would only work well against a weak country. Still a very cool peice of engineering. I think it's just too big of a target that won't hold enough fuel to make it back from a combat mission against a world power. With tomahawk misses, javelins, etc, I don't think it could stand up. Everybody talk about size will be a problem. If so aircraft carriers would not exist. This naval vehicles are used in case you can't use ports or have shallow waters and in Greece its great to move troops. We have a labyrinth of small islands where other big ships can't have easy access to deploy other vehicles.
@icollectstories5702
@icollectstories5702 Год назад
They are large, expensive, and seem to have large vulnerable areas like ducted fans and fabric(?) cushions. I'd expect them to be used, at most, once. If that's so, perhaps a fleet of smaller, cheaper, throw-away transports make more sense. Size is a disadvantage here -- imagine how long it needs to sit like a target while being unloaded. OTOH, think of the kind of runabout you could build on top of this platform! Just the accessory your mega-yacht lacks!

People keep commenting how vulnerable and how juicy a target this is, but so is every troop carrier. At the distance anti ship missiles are fired, the noise doesn't matter, only the radar signature really. The high speed of this thing is a big advantage because it is simply not in the danger zone for so long. Landing on a contested beach is pretty much out of the question these days.

Watching this. All i could think is that you could destroy a entire brigade with one missile

That is a very big target. Air Superiority would be necessary to launch such a beast. Otherwise it would be destroyed very quickly from the sky.

Everyone pointing out that the skirt would be an easy target but you have time to shoot anything you want since as soon as they they try to shoot back theyll go flying the other way 😋

The skirt is not required to function it also can not pop like a balloon or not likely be penetrated by small arms, made out of stronger material then the stuff at your local indoor shooting range

If even if not nuclear power this is a Assume vehicle. The United States should make a giant nuclear version of this heavly armed amphibious hover vehicle to carry combat drones. Speed land, sea manuvering sounds great for brown water opes. Zubra class. Hover vehicle direct fier support.

It's already giant, and the US already has a version.

The Russian Black Sea Fleet already had to keep more distance from the coast. HIMARS and the like would make short work of these.

Those things are very cool. Our LCACs need more guns......and maybe a few missile launchers......

That's a big target for a small missile.
