Giant is the Toyota of mountain bikes , you just can't go wrong with anything they produce . I own the 2022 Giant Trance 27.5 X3 in aluminum and I couldn't be happier .

Very useful comments in a language I could understand as I'm a noob in mountain bikes. I was looking at buying the Polygon Siskui D6 and this persuaded me to go for it. Thanks!

These are both budget-ish bikes, so neither will be perfect. Quick release isn't great, but it was pretty much standard fare a few years ago and I haven't seen any reviews anywhere where they say it caused performance issues while test riding (and some of those guys really thrashed the thing). Something you didn't mention is the weight. According to the specs online the Polygon is over 7 pounds heavier at 37.6 pounds, that's almost 25% heavier than the Giant. That's a LOT. I think the price difference is actually $400, to be fair to the Polygon. Setup by a pro shop is included with the Giant, unless you're good as a bike mechanic you'll want to pay a shop to do that, which is at least $100. They're both good bikes, both flawed.

Yeah I wouldn’t worry about a quick release on this bike, never seen anyone complain about it on reviews the chassis is stiff enough that’s it’s nice to have some flexibility in the rear to be more playful👍🏼 also never seen anyone break one or come lose

Hey mate the suntour xcr fork on the polygon d6 is an air fork. If I had to choose I'd choose the polygon over the giant, the thru rear axle and dropper post is great. You can always upgrade the fork like you did. You can't change a quick release frame tho. 👍 Good video!
@Skkunkman

We have both, my daughters have a Stance, and a D6. Right now the D6 is $999 on the bikes online website. For that reason alone I would go with the Polygon. If you plan to upgrade as your skills progress, why pay more for parts that you plan to replace eventually. In my opinion, buying the D6 and replacing the front fork with a $225 34mm Z2 Bomber fork will put you way ahead of the Giant. One measurable difference which you did not discuss here is weight. I think our Giant came tubeless where the D6 did not, so there's another expense, but If I recall the D6 came tubeless ready and just needed valves and sealant, so, that being said, you still have a better bang for buck with the D6 than the Stance. Now, if it's important to you, you can take the Stance to any Giant shop for work or warranty service, the D6 is all online and there is no Polygon shop to visit. And then, there is the known cracked frame issue of the D series bikes. I think the newer D series are all getting the upgraded gusset, and from what I've heard, polygon had been good about switching out frames under warranty. We haven't had any issues thus far after 2 NICA racing series, so, I believe it's just a small percentage of bikes that crack. If you plan to 'send it hard' then the Giant may give you a little peace of mind, and that may be worth the extra $$ to some. Regarding the Polygon's frame issue, let it be known that all bike manufactures have had cracked frames, no company as far as I know has never had a cracked frame. I think it all depends on the user and how they use their equipment. All things being said, I still believe the D6 is the better value. You mentioned you felt the Giant had a better cassette, I think that's a mute point as cassettes are easily changed out. You can get the same range from an 8 speed to a 12 speed, an 11-50 cassette, is an 11-50 cassette, the difference being the steps between gears, I think what you meant to say that you felt of the steps between the gearing on the different cassettes, you preferred the steps on the Giant. In my experience, if I can spin out my cassette, I just take a brake. I'd rather have climbing gears than descending gears. For me I think I'd rather start at a 13 or 14 and go up to 50 with better incremental steps, than a highest gear of 10 or 11. In your comparison, the polygon had a bigger step between the last to gears, where as in your example the Giant had better gear spacing. IMO, that is a valid observation, however, I think you could easily change out the cassette for something that suits your riding style better and wouldn't necessarily consider this the deal breaker. Even spending more on a different 10 speed cassette, the Polygon is a better value.

I have the giant Stance 29 2 I immediately changed the fork out to a rockshox Domaine RC 160mm. Big difference over the Giant Crest front fork. But don't forget the giant Stance crest dork has a damper adjustment on the bottom of the fork. The crest dork is a 34mm stansions.

For me, parts can always be upgraded over time. Where you ride boost and thru axle would be good but it comes down to how hard you wanna push your bike. Geometry would be key for me to purchase. I would want a reasonably slack headtube for the downs and a steep seat tube for the ups. So for me its the geometry.

you can't upgrade the Giant rear hub with a thru axle. Frame wont allow it
@flrn6233
@flrn6233 Год назад
Thru axle and a tapered fork is the basic for a bike you want to use on the mountain. You need rigidity, and quick release is going to give you a little bit too flex for that job. You can get away with it, but soon or later you are going to discover you needed this basic things. I would take the Polygon with my eyes closed, to change the hub and the disc is a minor thing that I have made lots of times, and you can upgrade the rear shock for a very good one. You can fully upgrade that bike anyway. The quick release on the Giant, they screwed with that.

I would be interested in a comparison between the Polygon, the base Fuel EX, and the base Stumpy where you check to see what it would cost to get the specs on the Polygon up to those of one of these base model bikes. Then it would be easier for somebody to see if the slow upgrade plan makes sense.

The bang for buck in this case is a wash with the glaring exception of the dropper. I would spend a little extra and get the Polygon D7 or save up a bit more and get a Giant Trance X or Ibis Ripley AF. Marin also just redesigned the Rift Zone which is another compelling option in the budget full suspension category

@mattj6676
@mattj6676 Год назад
Normally I'd agree 100% with you on that, but that Polygon frame must be steel, the bike weighs almost 40 pounds! The Giant weighs 30, their bikes are mass market which has its flaws, but I find their frames are excellent. The quick release is older tech, they haven't redesigned that bike in a few years I'm sure it's due for an update. But you're totally right on the upgrade concept as a general rule.

Upgrading gets expensive real quick, you may be better off spending more to get a bike closer to what you really want, so you won't have as much upgrading to do, the Giant comes from a dealer thats someone you may need in the future, always good to know a dealer, and Giant has great resale, so there is a lot more then just the price to consider.. Spend until it hurts so you won't have to do as many upgrades.. thats the hard part I know.. but until you get to the point you bike is worth more then your vehicle, you may not understand.. ;) !!!! Happy Trails...
