Join Dr. Joe Gaydos on a journey deep into the Fraser Valley where he must battle a prehistoric creature that also happens to be North America's largest freshwater and anadromous fish! In this epic fight to gather science, the creature's survival is guaranteed. But as for the scientist? Not so much. Our latest episode of Salish Sea Wild is about white sturgeon. It's gonna be wild!
Thanks to ‪@SturgeonSlayers‬ for making this work possible!

That big dude would have pulled me outta the boat and into the river! Cool doc Docs. We have green and white sturgeon here in the Sacramento River. Fascinating fish.

Amazing that more folks living in Vancouver area have no idea about this wonder of nature. Great conservation research work all! As a volunteer at the Vancouver Aquarium, I feel so lucky to see then every time I go in for a shift so it must be thrilling beyond thrilling to experience them in their natural environment. Thanks for the very educational and oh so entertaining video.

Fun video - really good editing that pulls one in to keep watching. I'm glad to know it's all catch and release. I saw a sturgeon in the Columbia River while diving. It was about 7 feet long (as long as my dive buddy including his fins).

That must have been amazing! We still hope to dive with them, but so far haven't gotten the right combo of decent viz without screaming currents.

Thanks Dave! That voice is always inside my head... glad he got to come out for a good cause and not just to constantly say "Push Joe off the boat!"

Great work! I learned a metric ton. (Speaking of, I think Salish Sea Wild should bite the bullet and go metric in all future episodes. It was confounding to hear a 2017 measurement in centimeters and immediately hear Joe compare it to the biggest catch ever in feet and inches.)

Good point! We kinda struggle with that, but lean towards hoping the mix helps some US folks start internally visualizing the two scales so metric eventually seems more natural.
